Keith Olbermann

All laws start from someone's opinion.
Obviously in CA there were enough people to sign a petition to get the issue on the ballot, then a majority voted.

Yeah, that darm Democracy we live in just keeps getting in the way... Even in California, a very liberal state, it was an overwhelming margin of victory..

What you apparently don't seem to understand is that our founding fathers set us up as a REPUBLIC. And they did it specifically so that the majority would not be allowed to impose their beliefs on the minorities. That's the whole reason they came to the new world - to escape persecution for being in the minority.

The religious right is about to pay for this one big time. The one thing Americans understand is fundamental fairness.

Plus, the next generation doesn't care about this crap. That'll be the true demise of the religious right. The next generation will confine them to the garbage dump.

LuvDuke and I aren't normally on the same side. But in this case, I suspect we'll be standing side by side shoveling the religious right into the garbage dump. The religious right has forced their beliefs into public policy for far too long and it's time to put a stop to it. I am appalled by what happened in Ca and Fl and Ark. It's disgusting to me.

This is the civil rights issue of our generation. And I don't intend to stop fighting until every one enjoys the same rights I do. I've already been to one protest this week, and I'll be at the national one this Saturday. The religious right is entitled to believe what they want to believe, but they can no longer be allowed to force the rest of the country to live by their narrow bigoted beliefs. And yes. I. AM. MAD. I am disgusted that anyone that claims to honor the Constitution of this country thinks that this is okay. It's not okay. Not by a long shot.

Sounds like drug users complaining their rights are being violated by the laws...

Don't like it??? Move to a country that has laws that fit your lifestyle..

And in a list of Top Ten wack jobs, Olbermann is right near the top, that guy is a goof ball..

Please explain why homosexuality is harmful to one's self or others...since apparently we're comparing it to drug use.

I'm not even going to touch the "lifestyle" comment...:rolleyes:

Many fear that allowing gay marriage will lead a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah of sorts. Unnatural sexual acts were occurring there, and many believe that allowing gay marriage legitimizes it and shows God that we endorse it.

Personally, at the moment, I think I will stay out of their business. Something would have to seriously change my mind on that, which is why I say at the moment.

:eek: :scared:

Just to let you know..."unnatural sex acts" don't only occur in homosexual couples.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I saw the statement by Keith last night on TV. And I thought he was very eloquent in expressing his opinions...which I happen to agree with.
This is legal discrimination. Prop. 8 is LEGAL discrimination.
Someday...I know we will move past this disgusting show of self-righteousness and bigotry.
I should stay out of this thread...can't resist!
I have to say the whole "cherry pie" comparison is hilarious. This is about people's lives, not a momentary choice of food.
I cannot understand why people feel the need to involve themselves in the lives and happiness of others when it's none of their business. If you don't want gay marriage, don't have one. Otherwise, butt out.
All this other junk about multiple wives, marrying dogs, etc. is totally separate and unrelated. People are not dogs and no one is talking about multiple marriages. This is only about allowing gay people to have the same rights strait people already have. The end.
If it was from someone esle besides Olberman, I probably would have listened.
Ignorance rules the day.
Before any more of it is displayed here, try actually READING the constitution. If it uses words that are too big for you, or for which you don't know the meaning, use a dictionary.
Marriage is allowed between two people. If those two people happen to be of the same gender, it is not allowed. That segregates the same gendered couples into the "aren't equal" category. Got it? It's pretty simple to understand.
Obfuscation of the truth has always been a hallmark of christianity, and opposers of equality for all.
While you going for the dictionary to look up those big words in it you might notice that Marriage is not mentioned anywhere in said document.
Pssst--Can I be so bold as to inform you that your married, heterosexual friends are out there having anal sex;)
And guess what:eek: They are partaking in some other "unnatural" sex acts too:lmao:
Being gay has NOTHING to do with the unnatural nature of things:rolleyes1
BTW--What constitutes unnatural? What do you think God does not want folks doing in between the sheets? What is off limits to God as far as sex goes?
Very well said :thumbsup2
Very good point ;)
No, you do not have a right go 80mph. You do not even have a right to have a car. There is no constitutional right to owning or operating a car. This is stepping into the Bizarro world.
This isn't just any law. THis is civil rights and that is protected by the "equal protection" under the law clause in the 14th Amendment.
Proposition 8 is no different than a state voting to bring back "Jim Crow" laws. You don't get to vote on who or who shouldn't be granted Constitutional rights.
Unfortunately, gays are the last group that you can discriminate against openly. But there will be a penalty to pay for the prop 8 stupidity and discrimination. The next generation will take care of it the way the 50's/60's generation took care of "Jim Crow".
:worship: Well said, LuvDuke!!
I have always thought that Christianity was supposed to guide YOU in YOUR life. Instead it has become more of how you JUDGE others in their lives.
:thumbsup2 Unfortunalty, many feel that if they don't believe in something then know one else should either. I never could understand the mindset of forcing people to believe as you do.:confused3
That stuff is going on now. You read in the paper about someone getting arrested for taking advantage of an animal. (I'm trying to keep it clean. ;) ) Of the abuse with children. That is just the tip of the iceberg really. There are many many things going on today that would probably be something new to those who lived in Sodom and Gomorrah.
Well said Keith! I only discovered Olbermann when I went to WDW on vacation this summer from the UK. Both my teenage kids and I loved listening to him so now I get my fix from the net. :thumbsup2 What a great orator.
Maggs :)
Thank you for posting this. I hadn't seen it yet. It brought tears to my eyes. Although I was ecstatic about the outcome of the national election I was deeply saddened by the passing of prop 8 in California.
