Keeping my bag dry on the water rides?

This will be the first year that DS is tall enough for Splash and Kali. What do you recommend I pout my park bag in to keep it dry on these rides? Anyone try one of those giant ziplocs?

Thanks!

A giant ziploc would work. I sometimes use a small ziploc for just my camera on rides where I might get a little splash and not a soak.

I prefer not to get wet on the rides, so I am one of those dorks who wears a poncho. :lmao: That really keeps my bag dry!

I keep a folded up gallon size ziploc in my camera bag, which is usually all I carry along with me.

We just take back packs, and put the valuables in the center compartment. We always pack a few zip locks also. But those water rides are not soakers.I am more concerned about my hair and make up.:lmao:

Water proof mascara for the win :)

I usually have some baggies with me to put electronics into to help keep them from getting drenched. I've found I haven't needed it on rides like Splash Mountain but it would probably be a good idea on a ride like Kali.

I have never had a problem keeping my bag dry. On Kali, just put it in the center compartment and on Splash, even when I have gotten wet my bag never has - maybe I have just been lucky!:goodvibes

Kali was the only ride where I ever got extremely wet, but the middle compartments are very secure in that respect. Most water that gets in is a few drops. I just feel better for the "just in case" kind of scenarios to have a ziploc bag as a double protection for the camera.

And if you go to Sea World while on your trip, Journey to Atlantis can be a VERY wet ride. Just FYI.

Kali has a center console where you can keep your bags and electronics dry.
I also am one of those that uses a fanny pack on vacation. It is big enough to hold both my camera and camcorder. I pack both of them in ziploc bags so that when we go on water rides I dont have to worry. I dont care if my fanny pack gets wet. Sometimes i will cover it with my shirt on rides.
You could wrap your items with a poncho if you plan to bring ponchos with you anyway. You never know when those famous thunderstporms will hit.

I kept a folded up kitchen trash bag in my backpack for this reason and would just wrap it around the back pack. I agree that for Kali, the middle keeps it dry you just have to be careful if several people have full backpacks, the flap may not close all the way.

If we don't have a plastic bag with us we just usually go into one of the gift shops and ask for a bag. They have never questioned us about this. Espcially if the gift shop is near the water ride - I just say we are going on Spash Mountain - or whatever water ride - can I get a bag.

Sometimes the center console on Kali gets filled with water if the previous guests didn't secure the top....my friend's bag got completely soaked just by putting it in the console. I'd suggest bringing a plastic bag to put your stuff in inside the console.

I've had this experience also. The console already had water standing in it so I didn't even want to put my bag in.

Ditto. And also there used to be several rafts with small to medium sized holes in the cover over the center compartment. I'm going to go ahead and assume at least some of those have been fixed since I was there last. But still bringing the ziploc JIK.

I am looking at purchasing a Timbuk2 bag just for this purpose. All of their bags have a waterproof liner, so bring it on... water rides, rain, what have you, my camera, tickets, etc will stay safe and dry. :)

I like that idea, a waterproof liner. I was just thinking of getting some of the big ziplocs but may have to look into a new backpack. Where do you find the Timbuk2 ones? I may just go google it too! Thanks

If you google "Timbuk2" you will find them. Actually, if you'd like to look at their entire line, I believe their website is http://www.timbuk2.com . I'm bidding on one on ebay right now... about an hour to go. :goodvibes Don't-cha' bid against me, now! ;)
