Keeping an eye on Tropical Weather 2024

4:00 PM advisory from the National Hurricane Center has Milton as a major hurricane by 1:00 PM Tuesday. So, that's at least a Cat 3.

Below is an image taken from the interactive forecast track (black line) from the 5pm Milton NHC advisory. Obviously we are days away but pretty wild it goes just south of Epcot right over CBR😫

Huge margin of error on that track this far out but that would be more than enough for me to start trying to move a flight up if I were there now. Still way more likely than not that WDW is fine, but the odds are now high enough that I wouldn’t want to play.

AccuWeather is also calling for a cat 3 at landfall . . .

I haven’t seen any forecasts that are predicting a cat 4. Are you in central Florida?
I am. I’m watching not only wind speed, but barometric pressure predictions. If they stay where they were when I commented previously it could be right on the border of a cat 4 at landfall. The website I monitor for the pressure readings won’t be updating again until six this evening, after they run the models with the five pm NHC update.

Same. Tough for those making a call since airlines haven’t put out waivers yet though. Change and pay now or hope a waiver comes out and there is still flight availability?

Hmm guess we may be adding being at Disney during a hurricane to our Disney experiences…I know lots of time before landfall and lots could change. Just hope it won’t be too bad for Florida and everyone. We just drove near Valdosta, and lots of damage , and I know lots more in town . I sure hope this won’t strengthen. Thanks to everyone posting weather info and updates. Wednesday was gonna be the kids and my first Disney day, bought lightning lanes, etc we’ll just see how it goes I guess.

Hey, since you came down I-75, were there any issues getting gas? Right now I am leaning towards evacuating towards Atlanta via 75, and will probably need to make one stop for gas along the way. I was thinking somewhere between Atlanta and Macon . . .

Gosh, stay safe everyone. I feels so badly for everyone who lives in the area and everyone who's been so looking forward to their trips. 😞

In a bit of positive news, the barometric pressure prediction went from 946 to 955, which should place it in the middle of the cat 3 range instead of a borderline cat 4. At this point, we will take any good news we can get.

Walt Disney World Begins Restricting New Hotel Reservations

Ahead of the arrival of (forecasted) major Hurricane Milton, Walt Disney World has begun quietly making operational adjustments. When trying to search for hotel rooms this evening, the Walt Disney World website is showing no availability for any dates that include Wednesday, October 9th, or Thursday, October 10th. Other dates are accepting new hotel reservations.
Restricting hotel reservations is typically the first sign that Walt Disney World is preparing for operational impacts due to a storm. Walt Disney World will focus on making sure that guests who already have a reservation are taken care of before dealing with new reservations. Additionally, Walt Disney World will hold back inventory for Cast Members who are part of the “ride-out crew” that staff the hotel during a major weather event.

I said the same thing yesterday...a NEW Disney experience! I think we're safe since we're not coming in until late Thursday but a little concerned with damage. Our granddaughter is in Melbourne (actually studying meteorology and eventually focusing on hurricanes); she'll be meeting us for her fall break on Friday. Thinking she'll be safe but always a concern. Prayers are with the west coast of Florida 🙏; such a rough few weeks for them. 😔 :tink:

We are scheduled for 10/10 as well, flying American. No word from them yet, but will expect it. Ugh.
Looks like there are a lot of us arriving on the 10th. I'm flying from DCA on Jet Blue and haven't heard anything yet. Fingers crossed.

We are set to arrive Wednesday late morning. Trying to decide if we should cancel. Only there until Sunday. I know I can get flight credits. I can cancel all dining and dessert party. Just booked lightning lane for each day. Assuming Disney would refund in this situation. Staying at Dolphin. Was supposed to cancel by yesterday. Hoping they would refund in this situation. Ughhh!!

@LynnTH if the hurricane affects your arrival and reservation, you should have a good chance of getting a refund.

We rode out Ian two years ago at the Wilderness Lodge. There were multiple emails and texts beforehand about the cancellation policies being waived, and to reach out to reschedule or for a refund.
