Keep your stuff safe!!!

I have to say that I am very sorry this happened to your mom. I personally know what it is like to leave your room and THINK you have done everything to keep your extra money, credit cards, etc safe, but in fact did not. On my last trip to Disney, staying at POP, I put all my extra cash in the safe, my cell phone, credit card, etc and THEN FORGOT TO CLOSE AND LOCK IT!!!!! IT WAS WIDE OPEN ALL DAY!!! When returning to my room, I realized what I had done AND THANKFULLY everything was still there! I realized I was very fortunate and double checked from that point on through the rest of my trip! Again, I was lucky, it could have gone the opposite way!

wow, I bet that did scare you good! Thanks for the tip! :thumbsup2

This is one of the times I would be grateful for my OCD :rotfl2:

I don't know if it helps or not...but whenever we leave the room, we put the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door...that way maintenance won't go it to fix anything while we're not there (or at least I hope not...it has worked so far).

That is a bunch of bologna. When I am renting a home, apartment, hotel room, I don't expect anyone to enter without my knowledge or permission. This is why when we are there we put up the do not disturb. Even though I keep things in the safe I don't want people in the room with the door wide open while they are cleaning. We allowed this at first and then realized it is not a good idea. Hopefully those employees were fired on the spot.

Fired for what, and with what proof? Disney said that maintainance went to fix a leak, and that housekeeping was in. While we can sit and say one of them must have taken the money, which one? You can't fire all of them. Plus you would first have to prove the $900 was in the room to begin with. How do you do that? Like it or not the burden of proof is on the person who claims something was taken. And it is all but impossible to prove that you had something in your room, and now it is gone.

I did exactly the same... but, with the opposite outcome... the weird part was: only about half of the money was gone. I suppose the person was hoping we wouldn't remember how much money we had and think we spent it.

to the OP -

Thank you so much for the wake-up call.

I always try to keep things locked up, but there are times I think 'awww, they won't take it' - wrong!

I'm sorry your mom was 'violated' in such a way. It's an awful feeling to have something stolen from you. Your faith in humanity is shot for awhile.

Do people still use travler's cheques? Is that an option in Disney?

Always lock up everything....in a hotel...a condo...a cruise ship cabin...

THEFT is merely opportunity....

Disney was not at fault and this is tough lesson learned...
