This is probably silly, but here goes...

You know how folks sometimes hold their hands up as they ride roller coasters?

When I was on BTMRR last December, I rode in the last car. I noticed that when going around the curves where the theming material is pretty close, people were lowering their previously outstretched arms, seemingly for fear of coming into contact with the scenery.

It seemed strange that Disney would put things that close, where someone could get hurt by holding their hands up. But, the stuff did look pretty close.

Is the theming material as close as it seems on BTMRR?

You know I noticed that the material seemed rather close but I am sure that it's just an illusion of some sort.

Now on Space Mountain, I seen a video of someone riding it with the lights on, you come very close to some of those bars.

I don't know how people put their arms up: I hang on for dear life! :rotfl:

My daughter and I cracked up at the NO portion
(barred circle) of the "keep-your-hands-and-
feet-inside-the-ride-at-all-times" graphic
on many rides. The characters are just funny looking
to us.

Believe me, I am such a big baby when it comes to those rides, I clutch on to any bar, strap I can find. Never will you see me with my arms up in the air. Just my mouth wide open screaming and my eyes most likely shut tight. :rotfl2:

I dont know about BTMRR, but my husband got the crap smacked out of his hands on Space Mountain this past Oct., lol! Mind you, he's tall and very long-limbed though. Didn't hurt him seriously, but he knows that he has to "keep his arms inside the vehicle" now LOL!

We say the graphic is the "no breakdancing" warning

:lmao: :lmao: That's exactly what I say to DW everytime I see one of those signs as well... I don't know, those spaces seem awfully close to me... you won't see me holding my hands up often :scared1:

I saw a show on discovery channel or travel channel, I don't remember which, but it was about amusement park ride accidents. There was a woman on there who was riding BTMRR with her son and he put his foot out of the ride before it stopped in the station, and his foot got caught. It was aweful.

Wow...I cant believe that.... I always "aasumed" that all those coasters (Disney or other) would be designed with peoples height and average arm length in mind to keep any object above the cars far enough away so no one can touch/hit......even though they post warning signs, I would think that is a liability for the park:confused3

I know DW, DS and myself all like to keep hands up on the coasters...for as long as we can !! I guess I will rethink in places like Space Mtn

Wow! I have to laugh because I've never noticed those signs. I ALWAYS ride BTMRR with my arms up the whole time. Granted, I'm only 5'2'' tall, I guess that makes all the difference!!

LOL, yeah it really surprised me too......it's never happened before either, and I think he's always been a "hands in the air" type on SM. I think it was everything working together.....his height combined with the length of his arms, combined with topping a hill and maybe gaining a tiny bit of air. :rotfl: Like I said, it wasn't like he got his whole arm whacked or anything, just his hands sorta slapped metal as we crested a hill.......it probably wouldn't happen again if he tried. :rotfl: And they probably do take "average" arm length into account......he's tall and very long limbed, like I said before, so I really don't think you need to worry if your family is average height and such.

No problem, if it's something you can drag me on to ride, guaranteed I'll hold on the whole time. (It is okay to keep your eyes closed, right? )

I saw a kid leaning out of the boat on IASW when it was pulling up to dock and her head hit the one of those metal poles that are used for hand grips to get out of the boat. Ouch!!!! It looked like a hard hit, but she didn't cry. I don't think her mom even knew that it happened.

I like how at Animal Kingdom they tell you to keep your hooves, tails and tusks inside the vehicle at all times!

yah the bars on space mountain seem really close and i never thought that "keep your hands, arms, and feet inside the vehicle" meant to keep them down...i always assumed, as wild4dis said, that they would make the rides to give you the room to put your hands up. Now i know to keep them in.
