Keep the Rebate or No?

I purchased a housewarming/birthday gift for my nephew today. I was happy to see that the product offered a $30 rebate by mail, but since this will be a gift, here is my question to you ...

Should I claim the rebate since I paid for the gift? Or should I give the rebate forms to my nephew?

What would you do?

The rebate is yours unless it requires UPC and if it does, then I'd chuck it. Unless you planned on giving him extra cash, I wouldn't give him the rebate forms.

I don't give the difference in sales price and retail price to those whom I give gifts to and a rebate is no different.

I agree. I say the rebate is yours to keep. It is the equivalent of a sale price, the only difference is that you have to ask the manufacturer to refund you that money. Keep it and put it in your Disney vacation fund!!

As long as you don't have to rip the UPC code off of the packaging, the rebate is yours.. You are the one who spent the money to purchase the gift..:santa:

Like a pp said, you wouldn't give the recipient the difference between the sale and regular price. Keep it, its yours.

Think of it as getting the gift on sale. You wouldn't pay full price for something that was on sale just because it was a gift.
