Keep Car at Disney Resort?

We are local to Disney and planning to take our first cruise in 10 years for our 20th wedding anniversary in November! My question is, would we be able to book a room for the night before our cruise at a resort and then keep our car there and use the Disney Cruise Line bus to Port Canaveral and then take it back to the resort when the cruise was over to pick up our car? We would rather get to stay at a Disney resort than book one of the hotels near Port Canaveral if that is possible and get even more magic out of our trip! Would there be any drawbacks to doing this if it is possible? Also, if we can do it - how do you go about booking it? Do you book it with the cruise or do it separately? Thanks for any help! PS-I was a DIS member 10 years ago when we lived in NJ and vacationed at Disney, I haven't been on the boards since we moved down here 6 years ago...can't wait to get involved again!

Might have to add day at the ends of cruise. But only WDW reps can set you up, if it’s possible that is. Otherwise it’s $17.++ a day at the port and you’ll save on the transportation costs. Plus maybe you could spend the day you return at the space museums?

I would not bank on being able to leave your vehicle there.

They don’t even guarantee that you can leave extra bags with bell services during the time you’re on a cruise, and that’s something people are being tipped for.

This would not be economical in the slightest, but you could book a campsite at FW for the duration of the cruise, and leave your car at the campsite.

Assuming you have a 7 day cruise: PC parking = $17 x 8 = 136
FW campsite: $55 x 7 = $385 + tax

Expensive just for parking..... Unless you are from NYC or LA

I think it may depend on the dates and the resort. Unfortunately though, you won't be able to get a definite answer until you arrive at your WDW resort and ask. They won't promise anything by phone. I will say it's more likely to be allowed if 1) you have both pre- and post-cruise resort reservations, and 2) you are staying at a non-MK or non-Epcot area resort, since those have the most problems with parking.

Happy anniversary and enjoy your cruise!

It's $120 to park at the port and $140 for the shuttle from WDW to the port for 2 people ($70 return, per person). Even with tolls and gas, you're at a breakeven point and IMHO, it would be much more convenient to have you car at port than to rely on the Disney bus.

We booked our room through the cruise line. They added the cost of the room to the total cruise price. The room price for us was the same as if we had booked it separately. Welcome back to the Dis!

Welcome back.....I would definitely drive my own car to the port. You can arrive when you want after the port opens and the cost is about the same....you can still stay at WDW before but just drive yourself. It is about an hour or so to the port and it is a very easy drive. Also easy to park at the port.

So when does the port open?

I think cars are allowed in to park around 10:00am, possibly a oriole earlier. Passengers are not allowed into the terminal building until they open the doors at 10:30am.

Enjoy your cruise!

If it matters to you what time you arrive at the port, taking Disney transportation from the hotel is not the fastest way to get there. They usually leave later in the morning at get you there closer to 12:00pm-1:00pm. You can start checking in at early at 10:30 and boarding usually begins around 12:00pm. If you arrive at 12:30 they may be onto open boarding so once you check in you just walk on, check in could take 15-45 minutes depending on the lines. It's a matter of choice. Sometimes the least expensive, easiest is the least stressful for you. It can be worth it to do what feels less stressful and more special to you (like staying at a Disney hotel and taking their transportation to the parks)

With the latest announcement of overnight parking fees for resorts - unless you're staying at a value resort, you might as well park at port.

FROM THE DIS:
What was merely another rumor this morning has been officially confirmed as fact; the Walt Disney World Resort will begin charging their Resort hotel guests for overnight parking on Resort reservations made after March 21, 2018.

The rates will depend on which Resort guest are staying at and are as follows:

Value: $13 nightly

Moderate: $19 nightly

Deluxe: $24 nightly

Standard parking fees will not be charged to Disney Vacation Club Members when they’re staying at a DVC Deluxe Villa regardless of whether they used vacation points or another form of payment.

Plus 35 each way per person for dcl bus

***!!! Sorry need to read up on this. My blood pressure just shot.

Officially, you were never allowed to leave your car at a Resort... With the new parking fees, they may... if you pay...

When the doors open, they do check Port Arrival Times at least for the first 15-30 minutes...
