I wanted to take my family to the Great Wolf Lodge, but the prices are so high! We heard about this alternative in Kansas City and can't tell a whole lot from the pictures. Has anyone been and have an opinion on how it compares to GWL? We're on a budget here and GWL prices have gone way too high! Thanks in advance!! :thumbsup2

I haven't been, but I saw it on the news and it looked great! I can tell you that it can't be worse than GWL. I swear I think our mattress was a sheet of cardboard over bare springs!

I can't wait to hear if anyone has stayed there.

We haven't stayed there, but i've only heard positive things from friends who have. I think we're going to go sometime this winter. The kids always get a kick out of going to the waterpark hotels when it's freezing outside.

I've never been, but when it had it's grand opening over Memorial Weekend there was a live news feed from a local station. It looked similar to the Great Wolf Lodge. I've only heard good things about the place.

We stayed there over Memorial day. I liked it much better than Great Wolf Lodge - it's cheaper and cleaner - I also liked that you could go grad food from the numerous rest. really close to the hotel. Have a blast.

Did you think the water play areas and slides compared pretty closely to GWL? I just don't want to be disappointed that it's a lot smaller or something. Also, do you remember if there are any zero entry areas, we have a one year old. Thanks so much!

I too would love some opinions. We were given a family gift to go to the Great Wolf Lodge two Christmases ago. Everytime we have planned, they have fallen through. My kids will be off to college before we get there!
:scared:

So, I got the school calender out today and they have a day off September 15. Called to get reservations, and guess what? They are closed THAT week for water park maintenience (sp).

I swear, we are not meant to go!

I saw this thread and was curious about this as well. We had are hearts set on the GWL. But would this be as good? Are the pools and slides as big? Is the arcade cool? Are there a lot of activities (scavenger hunt ect?)

Also, it looks like a regular hotel room and not a suite? Is that right?

TIA!

We just returned from a one-night visit to CoCo Key resort. It is definitely a much better value than GWL on the nights where GWL rooms spike up to over $300 per night. We only paid $179 for our room at CoCo Key.

The only drawback was the hotel's proximity to I-70 allowed for some highway noise (more of a trucker issue than a hotel issue) and no fridge or microwave in the rooms. They are newly renovated and very clean.

The water resort was great. I think it is on par if not a little better than GWL's water park. There is a nice kid's water play area with the tipping bucket on top, water guns and slides very much like GWL. There are two tube slides that go outside the building...they are completely in the dark. The other is a body slide that is also in the dark. The lazy river goes around the kids area (which means the two kids areas are separated by a bridge), but on the positive side it makes for a better lazy river than GWL. The zero-entry kids pool has a couple small slides and isn't any deeper than 18". There is a large boat and they show movies on the sail. Nemo & Little Mermaid were on while we were there. The hotel also has an indoor pool (totally separate from the water park) and an outdoor pool (also separate from the water park). We didn't get to outdoor pool, but it's more of a standard hotel outdoor pool. That might be the main difference between the two places. CoCo Key has a nice hot tub that starts inside and connects to the outdoor half of the hot tub. There are two other pools inside: one for basketball and the other for a lily pad obstacle course thing.

If GWL doesn't come down on their prices, I think we'll be making this place our winter water park (we usually don't go in the summer). There are a few places to eat nearby and a lot just a couple miles away in Independence, so we had plenty to do nearby, too.
