Katy Perry - Teenage Dream video

I agree with the poster who likened her to the attitude Madonna encountered. I was thinking even further back to the attitude Cher got for her risque costumes etc.

Its always something.

I say blame Elvis with all that pelvic thrusting he did on stage.

I love Katy but wouldn't let me kids watch any of her videos.

You might be joking, but you have an excellent point. This same argument can be traced right back to Elvis and his pelvic thrusting. They wouldn't show him from the waist down on tv for awhile. So this is the same debate our parents or grandparents were having 50 years ago. Wondering what willl be considered risque or shocking 50 years from now??

Oh, and I was the PP who posted about Madonna not affecting my decision making process. I failed to make the point that children should have limits, boundries etc. I think it's great that we have TV ratings now to help us out a bit. I am the farthest from a "prude" I know, but there was something on tv the other day with so many F-bombs within the first 5 min, I had to turn it off. And it was just me watching. I guess I'm a "grown-up", huh? But my girls can watch pretty much anything, within reason. I monitor their internet usage more than anything else. Music, not at all. TV, we only have one and it's in the living room so no problem there. They are 15 and 16 and I trust them. That does not mean I don't pay attention, though.

I dont know, I didnt think it was that bad. Catchy tune. Maybe Im wrong but I dont think they were portraying themselves as teens...the song seems to me to say he makes her feel like a teenager. I dont see the big deal, way more stuff on tv thats worse. :confused3

That was my understanding of the song/video too. And you are right, there are plenty of "teen" shows on TV that show a lot worse.

O.K., I watched it on Youtube. It's hardly the most suggestive music video I've ever seen. It barely raised my brows.

Meh. While I wouldn't want my 9 year old future SILs to see it, I don't think it comes close to some of the stuff shown on some TV shows (under the basic cable channels *cough*FX*cough*). I think there's a lot worse out there.

But... that main guy in the video is HOT!

I'd be fine with dd14, not thrilled about ds12 (but I'm sure he's seen worse - lots of his friends have older brothers ;)). All of my kids LOVE that song, but the younger ones have no idea what it's about (actually, I rarely listen to the words in music).

This brings me back to the days when 'I Kissed a Girl' was being played and someone posted about her daughter coming home from a party and singing it.
Okay, I didn't read the rest of the posts but had to comment.
My DD goes to Catholic school and we have a Family Fun Night every year and a parent sponsors a DJ. The DJ played this as the last song of the night one year. A whole bunch of little Catholic school kids are walking around singing "I kissed a girl and I liked it..." :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Apparently not all parents were as amused as I was because he wasn't invited back the next year. :lmao: It was a very funny scene with the little ones as they really had no idea what they were singing.

That one doesn't bother me particularly, because DD7 has no idea what it's about. She does sing along, though, so I make a conscious effort to listen to the words, after hearing "Love the Way You Lie" on the radio. I think even a 7yo could follow it:

Eminem:
If she ever tries to f***ing leave again / I'mma tie her to the bed / And set the house on fire

Rihanna:
Just gonna stand there / And watch me burn / But that's alright / Because I like / The way it hurts

In my opinion it's not that bad! For the person who said something about them pretending to be in high school. I think the song meant more like the guy made her feel like high school kids again.

Ditto on that. I have seen a lot edgier music videos. It isn't for kids, but I don't think her videos/music are geared as such.

I think MTV has a Mature (age 14) designation on the channel. The video is risque and no I wouldn't want a child viewing it; however, most children are not viewing MTV. Now, Katy Perry does appeal to the younger set so if they were to say, play this video on Nickelodeon or something like that, there might be an issue.

No one really watches videos on MTV any more. :goodvibes I am old enough to remember when all MTV played was videos.

I agree. It isn't that they are pretending to be teenagers. Their "romance" is making her feel those intense teenager hormonal feelings even though she's a whopping 25 year old.;)

You think this is bad I guess you never watched the video for Alejandro.....
(now that is graphic)

YES - My mouth dropped when I was watching that video. I was completely shocked by that video.

DD13 changes the channel as soon as she sees this video coming on. And for as liberial as we are - DS and DD can pretty much watch and listen to any music, tv show, or movie that they want - this is to far for her. As she stated, Mom she is just nasty in this video.

For us this is the point of letting our kids have freedom in their options of music. For the longest time they don't know what they are singing and most of the time they get the lyrics wrong. Until a big deal is made about it by PARENTS, the kids are mostly clueless.

Even now that she is in 7th, there are still lots of things that go over her head. Some things have been pointed out by friends, which she then comes to me to verify or further explain. There is a lyric in Katy's CA Girls, that she has ZERO knowledge of it's double meaning and I don't plan on pointing it out to her either, unless she asks. She can have her fun singin and poppin around to a fun song with a good beat.

Madonna. Same argument, different decade. I adored Madonna. She was the one pushing the envelope back then. I was 11 when "Like a Virgin" came out. Still a young teen when "Papa Don't Preach" came out. An older teen when the video to "Justify My Love" came out. None of those videos made me want to lose my virginity, get pregnant or have an orgy.

It's ALL about the home life, people. Mine sucked and that's why I made poor decisions. If I had of grown up in a healthy environment surrounded by people who loved me, I would have made the right choices. Music,tv, videos, video games...they are all just a blip on the radar screen.

I know what you are saying, but there are many people out here that came from a rough background and still did the right thing.:rolleyes1:flower3:
