Okay, I saw this on the Today Show this morning. I just don't get it. :confused3 I don't see any issue with her outfit, and I can't understand the complaints. Everyone on the Today Show and on KathyLee and Hoda's show seems to agree with me. Anybody here on the DIS think that it was right for them to take this video out of the episode?

I didn't think the dress was that bad, it did have material all the way up to her neck, just some of it was sheer. I just don't understand why a costume designer didn't use something else, though. I wouldn't have been upset if it had aired and my kids had seen it, at that age they would have been more enthralled with what elmo was doing.

I think it's a cute video. From what I've been hearing on the radio, the problem is the breast jiggle during the video.

I saw the clip on Youtube.Yes she is jiggling, but it is no worse than anything else, with the exception of a tiny bit, she mostly has her arms or something in front of her breasts anyway..I really think people need to get a grip

I think it's cute ~ she looks like a dark haired Tinkerbell. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHROHJlU_Ng

You're right! She does look like a fairy! They should have put wings on her. Her dress is longer than Tink's. Maybe Katy has a bit more bounce than Tink and that was the problem. If Sesame Street put her in that outfit, there shouldn't be any complaints against Katy, though.

Nope! I don't see the problem. My kids see plenty of breasts and butt cracks when we go to walmart or the mall. I think I see teenage girls wear skimpier (sp?) clothing than that.

I dont think it was that bad. My kids would never have noticed that anyway. It would have been nice for her to be covered up a little more but I wouldnt be so upset if my kids saw that video. As one person said, my kids would be focusing more on what elmo was doing.

I only saw a little clip on the Today Show, and now I watched the whole thing (a couple of times) on You Tube....I think that the video is absolutely adorable, I love the way they changed the lyrics, and her interactions with Elmo were really cute. She's dressed up in 'dress up clothes' and like they said on Kathy Lee & Hoda today, its almost like she's a caricature anyway, so whats the problem?

I'd love to know just how many parents (or what organziations?) complained.

Sesame Street is trying to be relevant by adding all these folks who in the real world have no qualities and are known for more sexual innuendos (i.e. California gurls) and the such.

While its fairly benign, she has gotten more press lately because of flaunting her chest, and the use of a higher outfit would have negated any issue this caused. However, because she doesn't have any skillsets other than the chest area, its still front and center and most people cannot tell she has the flesh colored mesh.

I personally am upset with SS because they keep getting these folks in.

however, i'm also the person who is upset with the Electric Company because all they have is hip hop on the songs. Nothing against hip hop, but it would be nice to experience other genres, such as latin, country, foreign, etc. If EC is aimed at a more urban setting, even though my suburban family enjoys it, then immersing the kids in other cultures would be great.

agreed!

At least she isn't squirting whipped cream from her breasts at elmo. :rotfl2:

Seriously though, they could have done a way better job with that outfit. It isn't up to SS to teach my daughter how to dress and I have final say in our home when it comes to what she wears (at least for now, lol), but it would be nice if at least SS could be free of sexy outfits.

I have no problem with breasts/bodies when they are being shown as a part of life (ie breastfeeding, watching a birth, explaining sex/conception), but I don't need my toddler watching Katy's breasts jiggling around, either.

That being said, it's done and over with and I think it does more harm drawing attention to it and having the video get millions of hits on youtube and being flashed all over the news. I'm sure SS learned a "lesson" and will think twice about wardrobes in the future.

People are trippin too much. Miss Piggy has been "busting out" for years. Americans are too "hung up" about bodies. I am certainly not saying she should wear a bra shooting out whip cream like in her video, but seriously.

And back in the day when the Electric company had the Lick a Lolly song, parents would have a field day with that now.

YUP...it would never make it on the air today

I thought the video was cute - my DD loved the loved the song.

Really many of the disney princesses / fairies wear less (Tink, all her friends, little mermaid, jasmine).

People need to relax.

I see it in a positive light.

Breasts "jiggling" means they are REAL. At least she didn't succumb to the pressure and get implants. That's a valuable lesson right there.

The funny thing is the kids watching SS are not going to be sexualizing Katy's breasts, its all the parents that see them as sexual objects.
Its no big deal, my kids see the same jiggling when we spend the day at the beach, or even our pool, and I'm pretty sure they've never noticed.

:rotfl2: So true!!!
