Read this earlier regarding doctorines and practises of Scientologists which of course is back in the news as Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are expecting.

Its doctrine states the mother isn't permitted to make any noise during the delivery.

What's more, a mother-to-be is not allowed any drugs to help her through.

Strict followers don't even talk to the baby, or let it be tested medically for seven days.

Any takers - not me for sure!

Lucky Katie - not!!!!! What reasons would they have for such rules? I can understand they might not agree with drugs, but what benefits do the other 2 ideas have apart from making life intolerable for the mother and possibly life-threatening for the baby if it has urgent medical needs?

That's completely outrageous!! It's putting the lives of mother and baby in danger.
And no noise during delivery.........that would be near impossible I think.

Sorry to sound cynical, but this relationship has seemed wierd from the start. She wasn't going to 'do the deed' until she was married, then as soon as the engagement was annouced, the Scientologist's mentor was following her around everywhere she went. I don't doubt that she has been swept off her feet by Tom Cruise, but his antics have looked a bit 'mid-life crisis' to me, especially that interview with Oprah Winfrey was so cringeworthy.

Don't get me wrong I wouldn't chuck Tom out in the morning (should he ever completely loose his marbles !!), but can this really work, when the fun-loving girl he fell in love with changes to what the Scientologist's say she should be like ??

C'mon guys, the baby's going to be a midget anyway with his genes, so it'll be easy ; )

Seriously though, the whole scientology thing freaks me out. For me that alone would be reason not even to let Tom in, never mind chucking him out in the morning.
Do they use leeches also? Middle ages here we come!

Maybe he sees her as his little "project" to mould into the woman he wants!! If I was Katie's mum I'd be seriously worried!!!

What I'm sceptical about is the fact he was married to Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman........both childless marriages due to an alleged low sperm count. Makes you think doesn't it????

Yes that had occurred to me too, though Nicole Kidman is supposed to have had a miscarriage after their marriage had ended (but said to be his) and Mimi Rogers went on to have 2 children with someone else. Definitely a weird set up - doesn't give you a rosy glow, does it???

I've read that the reason they want the mother to remain silent during giving birth is that it is traumatic for the baby if they hear the mum screaming and crying as it enters the world and it will be affected by this for the rest of its life - barmy!

Now let me see - wasn't it a man who made these rules about no pain relief and no screaming????? They should have made him swallow a watermelon whole and "give birth" to it - silently!!! He might have been a bit more humane then!!! :rotfl2:

Totally agree Di - for me it was like sh***ing a football! If the child will be so traumatised to hear its mother screaming and cursing as its being born then how would you protect it for the rest of its life? bad stuff happens - thats life.
Was also wondering about how likely it is he's even fathered this baby when his other marriages haven't been blessed, maybe thats why he keeps going for them younger and younger.

At the risk of sounding a bit rude, with regards to mine - "I screamed when I made her" "I screamed when she came out" and fifteen years later when I look at my bank statement "I'm still blooming Screaming"

My thoughts exactly.

It really is just a weird cult, why do celebs seem to feel the need to belong to these strange religions?? I wouldnt stay with any man who expected me to remain drug free and silent during labour, its just barmy!!!
