~ Kate Plus Eight ~

Oh good! :goodvibes

The bipartisan hearing was livestreamed here yesterday: http://pcntv.com/pcnplus/

I only watched about 50 minutes, but 2 bills were presented and discussed in detail (#19, Democratic and #2515, Republican) both proposing revisions to the PA Child Labor Laws. Various people testified, including the reps from A Minor Consideration (Paul Peterson, Alison Arngrim, and the person who played Timmy on Lassie), but also many others. A representative from the DOLI, a producer of TV commercials, a rep from the Farmers coalition, and so on.

Heads up to C.Ann -- there was also testimony and discussion of how the proposed revisions would or perhaps "might" affect the Amish!

Contrary to popular belief, this new legislation is not just about the Gosselins. The point was made that revisions to the Child Labor Laws were very necessary and not just to protect children working in Reality TV. The existing Law is antiquated and inadequate.

The DOLI testimony transcript is here: www.dli.state.pa.us
I'm sure more transcripts of the testimony will be available soon but I am still looking for them. There should be some other news coverage too, but I haven't had a chance to look today.

The hearing got very technical at times, and it demonstrated how hard it actually is to draft legislation, and how long the process takes! The hearing ended with a general statement that both proposed bills needed further tweaking (or even better combining the strengths of each into a new bill, in the opinion of the DOLI) and that the issue would be revisited in January when the next Legislative session begins.

All this is standard procedure and why Hearings are held. The goal is to ask for input from stakeholders - anyone can testify, you do not have to be invited - and redraft the proposed bill(s) with the additional information.

The wheels of government grind incredibly slowly.

Thanks for the info.
These people must live for their vacation. Don't they get the whole month off in August, then they work till the middle of November and come back the middle of January?

:rotfl2: I see your point! Very long breaks. I'm sure some take nice long vacations.

However, they are are still *supposed* to be working when they are not in legislative session. We can only hope that they are continuing to draft and redraft legislation, but good politicians who want to be re-elected also spend the down-time in their respective districts, gathering information about concerns, shaking hands with constituents, kissing babies, and preparing for the next election.

We always know when the legislature is not in session in my area because the state reps are omnipresent at town meetings and various holiday fairs and events, earnestly politicking away and telling us that they want to hear all our concerns! I usually try to dodge them in public. I'd rather write a letter if an issue concerns me!

No show on Monday nite.
I wouldn't have watched it anyways.
The Packers played the Bears in Chicago.

Did you guys see that Jenny Masche has filed for legal separation from her husband? I think he needs some serious anger management classes.

I'm really liking the Jones. they seem so down to earth. I also like the Masches to, we all see where that went.

To me the Jones seem so together and they are so darn cute lol.

Me liking them, would be the kiss of death to their marriage LOL.

I was surprised on last nights show, that the new house is only 700 sq feet smaller than the old house..so hopefully it is just more affordable, but still big.

I loved that the quints will now be eating with them, and not so separate all of the time. Funny that she forgot she had 6 kids :rotfl:. I think her husband is really really close to their daughter and always trying to give her attention so she doesn't get lost in the shuffle of the quints.

Hadn't seen that Jenny filed for separation from her husband. What a shame that it came to this. I think that like Jon, he was another one that wasn't thrilled about all those kids. Wonder how the TV show will go..will it be Jenny plus 6?

Hopefully the Jones' will having some longevity. I think that the way they treat eachother shows that they have a good way of coping with the stress and they each appreciate what the other does for the family. The Gosselins and Masche's showed signs of trouble from the very beginning of the TV specials.

I saw the episode where Jenny and Brian were looking at houses in FL together before the big move. Talk about painful!! Geez...I had not seen that before but did see the episode where they were actually moving. I thought they were doomed from the 1st time I saw them but that house hunting show in FL showed it so much more!

I think that move to them was like the vow renewal to Jon and Kate. Some sort of last ditch effort type thing. Doomed is the word of choice.

The Jones' seem much more compatiable to me. They seem kinder to each other and it seems more like a team effort. In both J&K and J&B's families I got the distinct impression there was resentment of have sextuplets. I have not sensed that with the Jones'.

Saw where this was being posted in a few different places. I thought it was something old that was dredged up, but I guess not. Finally, Kate's mom came out in her defense:

http://www.radaronline.com/exclusiv...-gosselins-mom-slams-aunt-jodi-jealous-greedy

Is it Kate's Mom? I thought you didn't believe in unnamed sources, and it is an anonymous source that supposedly confirmed that it was Kate's mom. :confused3

Oh, and 2 minutes research on Google tells me that the person who "claims" to be Kate's Mom has since asked for those posts to be deleted on the site (Imperfect Women) and has posted an apology. Methinks the water got way too hot for a fake *Kate's Mom* once ROL got hold of the rumor and sent it viral. So much drama. :rolleyes1

I don't think anyone cares anymore about the incessant drama and supposed inside sources and "relatives" who will not confirm their identities or stand by their posts.

I'm still watching the legislation -- not the trainwreck -- these days. It is of much more interest to me that Jon (confirmed Jon) seems to be tweeting that he is trying to get the the kids off TV and failed in a recent hearing. Hope he has a good lawyer and retains that lawyer this time. He will need one.

Eh, I'm sorry for the kids and hope all works out for them for the best.

Yep, and I am not sure, but they are saying that it is funny that Mommy Kreider, doesn't even know how to spell DIL Jodi's name. She was spelling it Jodie. Apparently, that is incorrect. lol

Some are also saying that because they really aren't showing Kate +8 and when they did the ratings were down, that Kate and her "camp" is creating drama to get back into the news. Makes you wonder.

I didn't see that on any of the sites I went too (mention of the spelling), so I missed that. I was hopeful that her mom had decided to come out to defend her daughter, in spite of Kate asking her family to stay back, and the site I first saw it on, before I followed onto other sites said the mom confirmed it in an interview. Sorry if it wasn't her. I can't see why Kate would be involved in this..I would assume it was a person who decided to do it on their own.

The ratings for K + 8 have been just about what they were before the divorce hoopla, and those ratings are actually pretty good for cable shows..not great, but good for cable. But in any case, I do think the shows are slowly coming to an end. Kids are growing up.

Jon's tweet was actually coherent yesterday. Apologized for being part of the spectacle. Said he had apologized to Kate for all of his bad behavior. Said the kids were older now and acutely aware their lives are not normal. Said whether the kids want to do the show or not is irrelevant. Parents are meant to decide what is best for their kids. Kids wouldn't brush teeth, eat healthy or do homework if left to their own decisions. Interesting take on the "kids want to do it" argument Kate likes to make. What will become of this bunch? Kate's People cover was met with nothing but criticism. Readers were so harsh; and not about her looks...

For those interested, Kate plus 8 will be on next Sunday 9 - 10 for the Alaska show. Obviously not everyone is interested, but for those wondering when it would be back on..next week is it.

Did anyone watch?

What a great episode! The kiddos and Kate had a blast! Very enjoyable! :happytv:

I did. I really enjoyed it. I wish I could have gone and saw the dogs and road in the vehicle. I hope they continue to do specials like this. I thought the kids had gotten old enough that they wouldn't be as cute, but they were. The two older ones were so, well, grown up and cute as well. The kids and Kate really seemed to have a great time.

Oh shoot, I missed it, hopefully the dvr got it. I can't wait to see it since I lived in Alaska for 5 years!

I've been saying I didn't really want to cruise to Alaska, but after watching this, I do now LOL! What a beautiful state.

We got a book in the mail for Alaska, and if you want to do it right, it says, to fly into Alaska and spend a week in one territory, then take a cruise ship down from Segway to Seattle or Vancouver.

In the beginning of the show, Kate mentioned that they would be in Alaska for 2 weeks. The show only high lighted 3 days. I wonder if they are going to have another show with them in Alaska. I know they spent a day with Sarah Palin, so either the Gosselins will be on Sarah Palins show, or it will be the other way around.

It was funny when Kate did the whale call.
It made me wonder if they taped that after or before.
They way Kate screamed, it was probably before.
