~ Kate Plus Eight ~

She still belittles my dad constantly. He just works a lot and avoids her.
I always find that interesting..I wonder why do men put up with this. But then, I also wonder why women put up with the same thing. Perhaps it bothers those of us on the outside, more than it does them. Maybe the person being belittled doesn't see it the same as the rest of us. I have a neighbor who I think is very rough on her husband, and the other guys ask him why do you take it? He just smiles and says it doesn't bother him, he loves her just as she is :confused3. I'm thinking she must be pretty good in other 'fields' LOL (OK, so if this makes you thnk of your mom and dad and you have to bleach your eyes, I'm sorry :rotfl:).

The difference for me in a TV show is, (blah blah blah, I know I know LOL) that we see what they want to show us. And if they make Kate seem the nasty person (although Jon certainly got his kicks in) and ratings supported that (because who doesn't like a train wreck) why not continue it. Even Jon said they didn't show the ending, how they solved the argument or even the apology. Also, Jon was pretty boring to watch, and didn't have the camera time Kate did. Not saying he deserved it, before my words get twisted by others, but I do think he was often the 9th child.

We assume that because we would come forward to support our friend if they were talked about like Kate, that hers would, and in reality, we don't know why they don't. She may be liked by a lot of people that we don't know about (such as people in her church), but if we found that out, things on this board would be boring, because for many, it's important that no one like her.

Well, again, she may have been lying, but she said she flew home. Perhaps she wasn't available or didn't want to go. It would be rather childish if parties were held and only one cast member was excluded. But, hey, if it's important to you, that they not like her, keep believing it. I'm not interested enough to look up the private parties (how strange to tape and put a private party on youtube) but I'm sure if you looked at every DWTS private party, and didn't see her, she wasn't there.

You know that if she would have attended those parties and not gone home to the kids, certain people would have been all over that. Saying what a bad mother she was and that she should be home with the kids and not out partying. As said before she will never be able to please everyone!

Kate didn't actually go right home to the kids most of the time as she said she did. She had promo appearances and a book signing, and it was shown through actual pictures she was not there a majority of the time during dwts. She did however claim to go right home Tuesday night and return Sunday. Just a little untruth.

There was a time when she was gone for a couple of weeks in the begining. That's the time that Jon said he was with them.

One other time she stayed over, and it wasn't hidden. She had planned on staying and doing the book promo and the interviews. If she wanted us to think she went home that week, she would not have had TV appearances. Although I thought that was the week she brought the kids to her, and they went to Disneyland.

I don't remember her saying, each and every Tuesday, I left. She did say however, she missed the after stuff, because when she was done working, she went home to her kids. I only know about the two times she didn't go home on a Tuesday (and the one time they were with her), but then I wasn't tracking her each week either to see if she told a 'lie'. I believe someone had a calendar on line where they tried to track her every move..maybe that will tell more.

I'm 37 with a husband and two kids. My oldest will turn 10 in a couple of weeks, so no teens yet. I started watching the show like everyone else, to see the adorable kids and be amazed at how Jon and Kate managed their huge family. I guess the eventual train wreck hooked me and I think I found the Dis thread late last summer. I rarely post, but often read. I've "pretty much" come to terms with my mom and the way she is. She's a good grandma to my kids. I mainly communicate with her with email and keep her updated with a blog so we don't have to talk a whole lot. She still belittles my dad constantly. He just works a lot and avoids her. Watching/reading is a gentle reminder to me to NOT fall into the ways I was taught. It doesn't really dredge up terrible memories. I'm really interested in the psychology of why people are the way they are. My mom and Kate are both very interesting to me![/QUOTE]

Susy,

I think that both this and your previous eloquent post were excellent. You have obviously come to a good place on your mother. You deal with who she is and are able to focus on her strengths while distancing yourself from her weaknesses. Well done.

Yes, part of my fascination with Kate is in wondering what made her the way she is, and whether she knows her snide remarks and *humor* are potentially destructive to her family. I really disliked the way she spoke to Jon too and feel that it contributed to the divorce and his recent stupid behavior. I don't always like the way she speaks to her children, but they can't get a divorce from her.

I completely agree with the bolded part of the quote above. This is not a pleasant way to behave, and I'd like to think that we should appreciate that and avoid it. A gentle reminder is exactly what it is.:)

Oh, and you don't have to have parented a child to adulthood (been there, done that, and we all muddle our way through it) to have a very valid voice here. Actually, I don't think you even have to have been a parent! IMO, it is perfectly OK just to have experience of childhood to express a valid opinion on the Gosselins. :rotfl:

Soooooooo....
WHO'S looking forward to the next installment of Kate plus 8? When's it on? Is it about their chickens? Are people still interested? Maybe so.

I did read on another board that there are only going to be 5 installments of the show, so I think that is a good thing, if true. Sounds like it's more specials than a series.

I do wonder if interest will wan, since they are so far apart, and people won't know when they are going to be on.

I haven't heard at all when the next show will air! :confused3

Thanks! :thumbsup2

Yes, looks like Episode 3 & 4 are going to air on TLC @9 and 9:30pm! :happytv:

Hmm..so then I doubt there are only 5 shows. I wonder if they meant they would be on five times, as in 10 shows (or 5 one hour shows)?

And these two shows, epi 3 & 4 are only 30 minutes each. On TLC they state the new epi's on their TV Schedule but not what the show will be about.

I edited the title of the thread for anyone interested!

So, I wonder if they are considering them 5 hour shows, if they continue to show them back to back, rather than say there are 5 shows.

Are you going to change the title each time it's on LOL?

Hopefully this one doesn't close.
If some comment upsets you, let it go, or put "ignore" on.

(Does anyone think Jon really got that tattoo of the dragon on his back? I saw some pictures on Radaronline and they never showed his face, just his back) and no I don't want this to be a debate about tattoo's. If I was young kid and my dad did that, I would of been scared to see something so scary.

Kate tackles some much needed projects around the house while creating a manual for the many household systems she never had to worry about until recently. Meanwhile, the Gosselin clan gets even bigger when Kate decides to get chickens for the family.

Looks like there will be ONE HOUR long show and not 2, 30 minutes shows as the TLC site stated a few weeks ago.

It could be that for purposes I'd syndication or reruns that the shows are 1 hour specials edited as back to back 30 minute shows that, without any additional effort, won't require any work to allow them to stand alone as a 30 minute episode.

When did entertainment become a grown woman screeching like a banshee saying she doesn't want to get wet while pressure washing the house? She was also shown on the roof in a mini skirt. The camera man appeared to be on the ground.

Well that should be fun to watch LOL! I'd guess she was a beginer at that type of stuff. It will be nice to watch some at home stuff...prob stuff that some women (for whatever reason) never thought they would have to do (and yes, I realize some women have always done that stuff..but not me LOL!). I did use our pressure hose once..and I still have the etching in the deck to prove it.
