Good Riddance! Katie is so fake and insincere in her interviews that she borders on rudeness most of the time. She is terribly misinformed or not up-to-date on the people she interviews. I cannot stand her!

I have to say I'm a bit surprised. She has two daughters who are, I think, 10 & 14 (or so). When will she see them? I know that mom's can work, blah, blah, blah but her husband passed away and if she's covering the nightly news that doesn't leave much time. I don't know... I just think that's sad.

Just saw her announce it this morning. Has anyone heard how much she will be making?
I think news anchors get an ungodly amount of money for not doing much.
I think that money should go to firemen, police officers, teachers, etc.

My opinion, I won't be watching CBS news, I don't now anyway!

Honestly, you didn't miss much... it was very non emotional. It was a scripted speech that seemed very... scripted. They will probably recap on the news channels at some point today.

Looks like she was reading from the teleprompter. She probably planned it that way. Otherwise, she probably would have lost it.

I was thinking the same thing. I also don't really care for her - and can't picture her anchoring the nightly news - weird.

I've always said that 3pm-10pm are the crucial hours once your kids are in school. How many hours/day does an evening anchor work? When do they start/finish? Katie is going to miss so much of her girls' life. (And I don't really like her.)

I agree with you 100%. I heard the only reason Meredith veira has a job is because she is married to some big time producer.

I would say the majority of her work would occur prior to the newscast and then she would pretty much be free at 7:00.

I am not going to judge her as a parent for taking a step up the corporte ladder. Good for her. I just don't think she is right for the position.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's not a fan of Katie Couric. It's not that I dislike her but I've never understood what it is about her that makes these networks throw millions of dollars at her. I don't remember the figure but last time she got a new contract on Today I was shocked at the amount.

I watch the Today Show every morning. I used to watch GMA - but I am not a fan of Diane Sawyer - don't know why, just prefered Matt and Katie.

I really don't like the idea of Meredith Viera - it could be the fact that she is on The View and I am not a fan of that show - so just dislike by association? I don't know...

Hopefully it will work out ok...

I like Ann Curry, but not for Katie's replacement. She and Matt don't gel well inthat spot together.

The view is very much their view--their opinions....in news--though the media is liberal--the more conservative and unbiased you can sound the better--I just cannot picture Meredith after the view--reporting news legitimately when they do it all gossip-like over at the View.

I like Katie and hope she does well at CBS. I don't see Meredith Viera as a good fit for the Today Show. I wonder if Ann was even offered the job or how Meredith's name came up when she hasn't been doing hard news for a long time now.
