Day 3—Friday, August 15, 2003

Cast of Characters
Me (Karen)—The planner of the trip and family Disney nut.
Linda—My older sister
Michael—My brother-in-law
Rob—My 12 year old nephew
Catie—My 10 year old niece

After having breakfast in the room, we headed over to the Magic Kingdom so the kids can ride Space Mountain for the first time ever. Auntie Karen knows her nieces and nephews, and she knows that they will Space Mountain, so being the Fast Pass savvy Disney nut that she is, she suggest that we grab fast passes for the ride, and then go in the stand by line. I knew Rob and Catie would love it, and want to ride it again, and of course I was right (Auntie Karen is always right). We had some time before our Fast Pass time, so we went on Buzz Lightyear, and then Alien Encounter. Alien Encounter terrified the kids.

We then went to ride on Space Mountain again. The kids enjoyed the ride even more the second time around. The kids wanted ice cream, so we stopped at the ice cream stand near the Peter Pan ride. I decide to skip the ice cream in favor or getting a Dole Whip later in the day. I decided grab Fast Passes for Peter Pan while everyone else ate ice cream. The standby line was only 20 minutes (in reality, the wait was 35 minutes), so we decided to wait for Peter Pan, and I ran to get Fast Passes for Splash Mountain instead.

After riding Peter Pan and Splash Mountain, we decide to go back to the Polynesian for a swim. My sister and her family decide to take the train back, to Main Street. I tell them I’m going to meet them back at the hotel so I can go get a Dole Whip before heading back to the hotel. By the time we got back to the hotel, it was pouring again, so swimming was out. The kids went to the Neverland Club for arts and crafts, and then to the arcade for the free video games offered a few times each week. The rain finally stopped, so we went for a dip in the pool.

That evening, we headed to Epcot. When we arrived at the Ticket & Transportation Center, a monorail was about to leave. The cast member on the platform told us to get right on. My sister was running for it, but I stopped her from getting on. I asked the cast member if we could wait for the next monorail and ride up front, and he said we could. Only four of us could sit in front, so my sister offered to sit in the back, and I rode in the front with Michael and the kids. The ride from the Ticket & Transportation Center to Epcot is a great ride. It’s a nice long ride, and it’s really cool to be in the front when you are going around Spaceship Earth. I took lots of pictures of the kids in the front of the monorail with Spaceship Earth behind them. Our monorail driver was Reggie, and he patiently answered all of the kids questions. He told us that when a monorail gets down, they have to bring out a diesel run tow truck to pull it off the track. We got to see the diesel run tow truck later in the week.

We went to see Honey I Shrunk the Audience, and then had dinner. Everyone wanted something different, so we separated, and decided to meet at the American Adventure. Linda took Rob to Mexico for a burrito, and grabbed a burger for herself at the American Adventure. I took Catie to McDonald’s and grabbed some take out chicken teriyaki in Japan. Michael got fish and chips in England. My chicken teriyaki wasn’t very good. They used mostly dark meat, and it didn’t have much flavor.

After dinner, we went to Norway and Mexico to do the boat rides. We got out of Mexico just in time to see Illuminations. The show was as wonderful as ever.

We then took the monorail back to the Polynesian, and the kids went to swim again. Linda, Michael, and I watched the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the beach. We then headed back to our room to go to sleep.

Marla, I have to admit that I never had a Mickey bar. I don't like those very much so I'd rather spend the calories on a Mickey ice cream sandwich or a Dole Whip. But I did think of you when I bought my ice creams and saw the Mickey bars.

And, no, I didn't see any Svens. I did look for one. I wanted to take a picture of a cute Norwegian guy named Sven, but it just didn't happen.

Thanks for the review of the Japan counter service...I am debating on whether or not I should grab a bite there in a couple of weeks...maybe not as I love really good teriyaki and don't want to be disappointed. I haven't eaten anything from Norway yet, so maybe I'll get a sandwich from the bakery instead. :D
