Kali river rapids un-impressed

We rode KRR on our first trip with kids. We have not been back on it since. Getting soaked during the time of year we visit is not fun so we have avoided the ride. I really like Splash Mountain but we avoid it for the same reason.

Dan

Aside from the drop which is one of the biggest if not the biggest in this type of ride the rest of the ride is very tame and unimpressive.I understand the whole concept of clear cutting and burning the forests that Disney wanted to put out on this ride but I believe people just prefer a fun ride versus one that tries to make an ecological point, even if it is a good point. The ride itself just doesn't have as many rapid areas compared to a Popeye and Bluto at Universal which is full of them and even puts you through a boat wash which then drops you into one of the craziest rapids area on any rapids ride.I remember even watching a show on Travel channel or Discovery where an imagineer said the final drop was going to be two smaller drops merged into one but after they realized how tame the rest of the ride was they made it a bigger drop so riders will at least get the thrill at the end of the ride and not get off the ride complaining of how boring the ride was.

It is DS's favorite ride in the WDW parks. For that reason alone I love it!

Kali was disappointing to us who are used to Grizzly River Run at California Adventure. To us it was, shorter, tamer and not nearly as well themed. It's just an okay attraction, in our opinion anyway. :)

Hi

We went on Kali river rapids for the first time this past week. I found it very short and not like the Video's we have seen on the Disney vacation DVD's have they changed this ride? made it shorter? took some features out? My co-worker was saying the fire part was intense no fire for us?

Still liked the ride but I guess we were expecting more.

Thanks Dave

The last Disney Vacation DVD I watched showed characters dancing in some what empty streets :confused3 No lines at attractions, no lines when children were running up to hug characters :confused3 When did Disney add those guests to the park :confused3:confused3:confused3

My point.. is anything realistic in there? They are selling you a vacation. They are showing you the highlights of attractions, they aren't giving you the entire low down on everything.. Yes, the fire was removed.. but that is it.

I have to agree with you, I whent on it for the first time last year and was very disapointed at how short it was. Yes there is a fire bit, but you may have missed it because of the spinning motion of the vehicle. The fire part is just before or after ( cant remember when!) the drop and isn't very exciting, so you didn't miss much! The other thing I did find disapointing was the level of the drop. I found it quite tame was my only complaint but luckily or unluckily I did get rather wet!

We went on this ride for the first and only time 2years ago. We were prepared to get somewhat wet and wore our bathing suits. Of course on our side of the raft we got completely soaked and the other side was dry. The dry side got a :rotfl2::rotfl2:at us wet people. I felt it was to short of a ride and haven't done it again.

We're not big fans of this ride for two reasons:
  1. We dislike getting soaked
  2. The "burn the rainforest" theme is way overdone

If its a warm (hot) day, then getting soaked isn't so bad. However, you still wind up walking around with wet shoes and chafing underwear.

The environmental message is way to much shove it down your throat for us. Yes, I understand the rainforest is being decimated. No, I don't need to hear about it at WDW.

KRR is my favorite of all the Disney rides. Of course, I just DON'T do anything extreme, so nice and easy suits me fine!
We always wait and do KRR last thing, and usually we can go 2 or 3 times without a wait. We pack a change of clothing in out backpack and change afterward:, because getting soaked is half the fun!:thumbsup2
Our record was in 2006 during an an EMH: we went on 10 times in a row!

You should have passed through the burnt out rain forest at the beginning of the ride. I have always found the ride to be okay but I would never wait in long lines to go on it and really have to be in the mood to get soaked. We have found it better to ride it on rainy days (short lines and already wet).

I was kind of disappointed in it also, it was very short but the kids liked it and that made it fun! I forgot all about the fire part of it when I went years ago with my son it had that!

I don't think it matters whether a water ride is a sleeper or more exciting than... well, never mind. I just don't do water rides, for two reasons.

1. If I were of a mood to walk around soaked, I could always walk through a car wash. Then I'd be wet AND clean.

2. Some folks -- bless 'em -- should NOT walk around in a wet shirt. I'm one of those folks.

To echo a lot of the other posts we never/won't wait more than 10-15 minutes for this ride. As far as rides of this type, this one is just ok. Short and the theming is again just ok to us. We usually skip it if we aren't wanting to get wet. It is fun seeing who gets drenched (usually the person who is leading the drop) and as they have their backside leading, they usually don't see the wall of water that comes over the side!:rotfl:

I always get stuck backwards on the drop :sad2: but getting wet is the reason I go on it! You can always go on Everest to dry off :thumbsup2

I realize that the Video's are not accurate, I have seen adds that show the Makic Kingdom from a window I think was Carribean beach, the empty park streets etc. I was just saying that I was expecting somethign different that is all, I have made 26 plus trips to WDW and DL. Love and am already planning our next trip I was just saying that the ride was not what I expected. I will ride it again and next time have a real idea of what to expect. What I was really trying to do with this post is see if the ride had changed from when it was originaly opened that was all.

This is pretty much what I was going to say. Grizzly River Run in Disneyland was the first raft ride I had ever been on. It's a wonderful ride and unfortunately set the bar pretty high for what I expected on raft rides.

I too was very disappointed with this ride. It ended and I was shocked it was over. Some floating, a little fire, one drop and then done. Seriously? That was it? This is one ride I won't bother with in the future....

I'm with everybody else - I enjoy it as a ride but it's not the best rapids ride. I've designed better ones in Rollercoaster Tycoon

I love this one (often wear my quick dry clothes on days visiting), but having been on Grizzly River Run at DCA I can see that Kali could have been done better. But still fun. I generally get the "goat" seat also - I did on GRR too, where the consequences are worse!

And squirting elephants! Why did it have to be squirting elephants!

It's what you make of it. Maybe the storyline isn't the best but I don't really care about that. It's the other people in the raft. We've had some of the best times on the ride just because of other people being afraid of getting wet or that first hill where some think it's the final drop. It's so much fun if you take the effort to watch the people and not think "this is a short ride", blah, blah, blah. Dumbo is a short ride and it's pretty lame but it's the experience, not the ride.

Worst thing is riding with a bunch of people in ponchos. What's the point?

Totally Agree. And we go in August, so we're HOPING to be the ones who get soaked. And we LOVE experiencing the ride with all the strangers in the raft with us!
