Just curious, does Disney dial back the wet-factor on these two rides when it's a really cold day? To be honest, I'm not even sure how the rides work in terms of water control. Are there water jets on each ride that they can take down a few notches?

I was talking to a friend about making FP+ for these rides in December / January and she asked me about it. What if it's a freezing day...is there a good chance you'll still get completely soaked?

You will definitely still get wet on Kali ... Even if there is some way for them to turn down the sprayers, the biggest wet factor on that ride is splashing down on the drops. Unavoidable - and if you're in the wrong seat (or the right seat depending on how you look at it) you will get completely soaked. On splash they do turn the water cannons down/off. You can still get wet but it's unlikely that you'll get soaked.
I will ride Splash in cool weather, but not Kali.

I agree. I have been drenched on Kali like I just stepped out of the shower with my clothes on, and most of the water came from the big drop. I have never been soaked on Splash, and I am often nearly dry when the ride is over. I would ride splash in the cold, but never Kali.

Our last day of our trip in early October this year, we ended our last evening riding Kali until the park closed. Four times in a row. It was 68 degrees and I nearly froze. The pools may be heated at Disney, but the Kali River is not! Anything below 60 degrees would be masochistic.

Wear a poncho! We love going on Kali at night and AK stays open late in late December until 9!

I'm just going to chip in here that as I recall, when I was at AK on a cold morning in Feb, 2012, Kali was closed - not a refurb, there were CMs with a rope in front of the entrance, and I'm not sure there wasn't a sign explaining the temporary closure. That was the same day there were various animals not out on the safari or walking trails, as well.

We stay off Kali when it's cool but will ride Splash. I also have seen Kali closed when it's real cold.

I ride Splash every December trip we take. I don't ride Kali anymore period. I find the soaking feeling and squishing while walk feeling miserable.
