I'll be 4 1/2 mos pregnant when I go to WDW. I am trying to make a list of what I will feel comfortable riding. I have seen video of the Kali River Rapids ride and I just can't see any reason why it would be dangerous for me to ride. The "drop" looks like a short water slide. Anything I'm missing?

I'm going to consult with my dr. but if she's never been to WDW she won't really know what the rides are all about.

Always good practice to read and heed the warning signs at WDW.

There IS a likelyhood that you WILL get 60-85% DRENCHED... similar to if you jumped, fully-clothed, into a SWIMMING POOL.
So you may want to take that into consideration, just in-general.

It's okay for me to get wet while I"m pregnant. Is there anything else about the ride I should be aware of before riding?

I know.

But I was warning you that Kali has that OTHER consideration in additiion to the health risks.

It is, by far, (potentially) the wettest attraction at the 4 theme-parks.

I rode it at 6 months pregnant and didn't have any problems. My son is now two and perfectly healthy!

That said, I will add the disclaimer that it is best to talk to your ob doctor first.

Thank you! I"m definitely going to talk with my OB first. What else did you ride while you were pregnant.

***Thanks for the replies!!!***

Here's another question, if you don't mind: How do you keep all of your stuff from getting wet while you ride? (Camera, etc.)

Thanks!

The last time I rode it I didn't hold on for some DUMB reason when we went down the hill and the raft hit the side and it jerked me across the seat next to me really hard, and I'm a big woman:laughing: It bruised my side and belly , it was almost black! It hurt so bad!

So there is a possibility that you could be injured more on a ride like this compared to regular controlled rides where you don't crash into sides.

As long as you brace yourself and hold on tight there shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for the reply!! Aren't you "harnessed" in or is there a seatbelt?

There is the most MINIMUM of seatbelts in the rafts.

There is a plastic cover over the center section in the raft that is designed
to hold items in a somewhat drier condition... but it really doesn't do a very good job.
The space, itself, is often rather wet inside already.

If you have any valuables that you want to keep DRY...
do not take them on the ride.

And, if you are wearing tennies, they will likely get drenched and be squishy the rest of the day (or the next.)

Kali is a
wet,
wet,
wet,
wet,
wet,
wet,
ride!

There is a seatbelt that goes across your lap or belly, so you will need to position that beneath your baby belly in case you get jerked, other than that there's nothing else. I had a seat belt on, but it just kept me from flying out of my seat, not throwing my upper body and side against the seat next to me.

I can't believe I didn't hold on that time!!!:headache:

I did the safari too. I just sat on the side so I could have something to hold on to. I think I pretty much rode everything but the coasters. I did Soarin...

Just remember to drink lots and lots of water!!

Would you say that Splash Mountain is a comparable ride? What about the drop on that ride?

I really appreciate your input! :)

I can't think of anything jerky or unsafe for a pregnant woman on Splash Mountain...Space Mountain on the other hand, that shakes you up!

On Splash Mountain you just ride around in a boat and go down a drop. Nothing dangerous there.

Once again, THANK YOU! I'm planning on riding Soarin', Splash Mountain, POTC, some of the kiddie rides w/my 4 year old. I think I'll avoid test track because part of it is bumpy.

Am I missing anything? You are very helpful!

You're welcome:)

Good call on not riding Test Track! It's more than a little bumpy! It's jerky and starts and stops really quickly and takes corners really fast and just overall bumps and jostles you around.

I think everything is fine at Epcot besides TT and Mission Space.

At MK I wouldn't do the coasters or astro orbitor , the last one just because it's really hard to get in and out of , but no problem for the pregnancy.

At AK no coasters and I personally wouldn't ride Kali and for sure not Dinosaur.

At DHS I wouldn't ride the coaster of course, and Star Tours is really bouncy and jerky.

I may be missing some, but I don't think I am:laughing:

I love Disney because it is so perfect for people of all sizes and conditions. Young children can enjoy the rides , along with lots of others.

I agree! So much to do with little ones, even if you can't ride the big rides. So Splash Mountain sounds safe enough and that's what I was really looking forward to. I think Kali would be too wet, like the OP said.

I personally wouldn't do Kali, not because of the slide, but because of the bumps and jerking. The raft floats around and freely bumps into walls, and especially other rafts. I remember some of those jolts, especially at the end when the rafts backed up, to be very hard.

I actually read an article about this same issue in a travel ombusman column the other day: http://www.tripso.com/columns/disney-disaster/

I don't recall Splash having that problem, so assuming the drops are OK with your doc, I can't see what the problem would be with that.

I have been at all the parks and on most of the attractions four times during my pregnancy:

I rode everything at Epcot, including TT and MS (no spin) at 6 weeks....

The biggies at AK and MGM at 4 months including EE and TOT (no RNR). I didn't ride Kali cause I hate being wet at the parks and we were hopping that day so I can't offer any advice on it.

And everything at MK at both 3 months and just last weekend at 26 weeks (6 months)..including Goofy's Barnstormer, Splash, BTMRR, and Space Mountain twice (it is my fave).

As far as restraints go...in MK BTMRR has a lap bar (try to sit so it hits your thighs instead of your belly), Space has a lap T-bar that falls over your thighs, Splash has no restraints and Barnstormer has a lap bar. POTC you will be fine, no restraints.

Not that I am recommending everyone do what I do, I'm just saying that I did and neither I nor my crazy ride lovin' baby suffered any ill effects (I had a sono this past Tues. so I can say I know for a fact everything is OK):thumbsup2

Congrats and enjoy your trip!
