JVD dilemma - only able to book 1 beach day and 1 beach transfer

I was only able to book a single place for the JVD beach day on my May 27 cruise. So I booked 1 person on the beach day and 1 on the transfer.

I look periodically but an extra space on the beach day hasn’t opened up yet.

Clearly I can’t keep what I currently have, unless I want a divorce!

Has anyone had success with JVD beach day cancellations closer to the time? Or adding 1 person on last minute?

And as an aside, if it’s s really choppy transfer I know DW would probably not enjoy it - should I skip JVD altogether and think about garden cane bay?

Thanks!!

Maybe the universe is sending you a message to avoid the choppy ride.

Or maybe you need to look at JVD as a DIY excursion - you are a cruise veteran, now.

The transfer can be very choppy and is not set up to be a smooth operation from the get go. You take a small boat from the ship to the bay then transfer to a barge to get to the beach. The last time we were there, there was so much wind that the barge hit one of the many yachts anchored, the Captain having much trouble keeping the thing steady. You can imagine that many guests had difficulty making the transition.

It is choppy-the water. If that is not your thing-maybe a different excursion? Good luck!

Thank you! Good to know, and holy moly - that’s an expensive transfer to the beach if the captain did any damage.

I looked at Garden Cane as an alternative and I’ll talk to my DW and see what she prefers.

That said, I was wide awake at 3AM and couldn’t get back to sleep so kept researching and am being drawn back to wanting to cross a painkiller from Soggy Dollar off the checklist. I used to drink a lot of them…but is it worth the pilgrimage!!!???

Ok- you didn't mention the painkiller-LOL. I think it is worth it, personally. They are really good.

Hahaha. Talked it over with my wife, she said “am I hearing this right, you want to go 45 mins each way, sailing in choppy waters for that long, for a cocktail? Hmmmm”

I didn't find it choppy. My friend who gets motion sickness was fine. Honestly, we really enjoyed the excursion! We did the transfer, beach day was sold out.

Awesome. Thank you!! You may have sealed the deal
We did it in April, a few weeks ago. The boat ride was calmer on the way there and very choppy on the way back—the beach was beautiful but we met another couple that paid like $20 each way for a taxi to some lovely beach accessible by short taxi each way and I wish we had done that for more beach time.
