JustEmmy and Emmysmommy return to WDW for some wining and dining

All of that looks amazing! I bet the rolls are good. I like the Beef Bobotie at TH's breakfast, so I'm sure I'd like the rolls!

Steak and ribs look AMAZING!!! Yum.

Thanks! I'm sure you'd enjoy it.

I never realized that TH serves anything like bobotie. We have always cancelled our reservations there, but now you have me very interested in trying it. :)

I use a 50mm lens too for food! Although I just got a new lens for food photography! I think your pictures look great! Hey- aren't you supposed to be a beginner??

Thanks! You're too kind. How do you like a 50mm compared to your new lens? What kind of lens is your new one? :)

Jiko is a gem of a restaraunt!! Looking forward to more reviews popcorn::

Agreed! ::yes:: I hope you enjoy the rest of the review!

So excited that you started your reviews! Dinner at Jiko looks great - we've never been there (or AKL for that matter!) and it's on my list.

Hey, LittleStinkerbelle! :goodvibes Definitely keep it on your list. It's well worth the extra travel; beautiful resort, and wonderful dining options! :)

Very excited for the start of your Food TR and your Mom's TR. It's like Doublemint Gum - Double Fun! :cool1:

We haven't eaten at Jiko before, but do have it planned for our next trip. Your review looked very good, and I especially like to hear about the attentiveness of the servers/management.

Looking forward to reading more! :surfweb:

Aww! Thanks!

I hope you enjoy Jiko as much as we did on your next trip. :goodvibes

Jiko looks tasty! It's on the list for our family trip in Jan (so far away!) I am hoping because of what AKL is it should be a place that I can take my kiddos to and if they act up at least there is a lot to do if I need to take them outside of the restaurant. Plus we will hopefully be staying there for that trip as well...

I just purchased a 35mm f1.8 for my Nikon - and I love it. Its a little different from the 50mm, but once you get in the groove of finding that sweet spot of clarity and focus and then having the beautiful bokeh it's great!

Hi, SAT887! How exciting! That's definitely a plus of the AKL-- there's always so much to do.

Oh, I love a picture with some bokeh! My boyfriend just got a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8; he let me try it out, and I really liked that one too. For me it's so much more convenient for small tables and tight spaces. Hahaha!

Your meal at Jiko looks so good! I haven't been there yet, but I'm a big fan of Sanaa, and AKL is such a pretty resort.

I agree! We have never tried Sanaa, but plan to on our next trip. It looks like AKL knows a thing or two about food. :goodvibes

Your meal at Jiko looked amazing, we haven't dined there in over a year! I think I saw y'all for a split second one day! We had just been seated at The Plaza for a late lunch on a Monday around 2 and I think y'all were heading out the door. I didn't want to be a dis stalker and chase y'all down just to say Hi!:rotfl:

Aww! We would have loved to meet you. Maybe we'll cross paths on another trip. We love dis-meets. :)

Love your photos of Jiko, Emily. The beef rib looks as outstanding as you describe.

Aww! Thanks so much. :)

Love to read food reviews.

The photos looked good to me and great review of Jiko.

Thank you, scottny! :)

Hooray, you've started your report!

I'm so glad that you both liked Jiko! I thought it was excellent and I'm glad you thought so, too!

Thanks Jenny! We'll definitely be returning! :)

Joining in..cant wait for more :goodvibes..great pics!!

Thanks! :goodvibes

Hi Em! Crazy movie night mom here - I LOVE your first food shots - I think they look great! I HAVE to get a new camera. Really looking forward to reading all about it - looks fantastic so far!

Hi Alysa! Thank you so much. :goodvibes My mom has showed me lots of your posts, and you are so incredible! I'm such a fan!

I have followed a couple of your mom's trip & dining reports, so I am here to follow along with your dining reviews! :cool1:

Thanks merbobear! I hope you enjoy reading along! :goodvibes

Glad to hear you had such great service at Jiko. We had a bad experience a couple of years ago, but would like to return again for a second try.

Aww! That's too bad. Hopefully if you try it again, it'll make up for the first time. :)

:coffee: Love your reports..

Aww! Thank you. :)

Great Jiko review! Can't wait to see the rest!
:cool1:

Very cool that your mom let you do the planning. My 14 yo dd is about ready to take over the reigns from me but I am not quite ready to give them up! ;)

Hey! I like the 50mm lens for food. You do have to lean back a bit to get what you want but it works well. the only negative is it has a hard time focusing and searches a lot. Definitely great low light performance though!

I got a Tamron 17-50 f 2.8. It will do great in low light and it has a very useful focal length! It is super heavy though and big! I am loving it so far though.

Great start! Being kinda new to Dis, naturally I have gravitated towards the food reviews, enjoyed reading about your previous trips, this one sounds great so far! Def going to add Jiko to my list for our next visit!

I love your review of Jiko! My first meal of my trip last month was a solo meal at Jiko and I loved it. It's too bad that your mom's was overdone because when it's done the way you like it, it's fabulous! I took photos of every meal but I've been to busy/lazy to actually start a dining review! :sad2: I'm so glad that you had a wonderful experience at Jiko, I also had great service and this is definitely on my must do list from now on. That cheesecake looks great! I can't wait to read more!!

By the way, I'm so bummed out that I didn't get to see you. Race weekend ended up being more hectic than I'd planned and my phone kept dying so I missed a lot of texts and emails while I was there.

I'm in!

Great first review. Your pictures are awesome! :thumbsup2

I need to try Jiko. We were talking about staying there (even for part of our trip) on our next trip so we could experience Jambo House AND easily get to Jiko :)

I'm in. I can't wait to read all your reviews. Jiko looks amazing! I'm hoping to add a couple of your choices in my rotation for November.

Haha! The planning is definitely half the fun, but how can you go wrong either way when either way you end up in DW? lol ;)

Hi again, Rachel! I agree that the 50mm is great in low light. I always feel a little rude breaking out the blinding flash in environments like that, so it works very nicely. lol

That's the same lens my boyfriend has for his 40D! We both love it! The focal length really is great. :)

Thanks so much Ally! :goodvibes Food reviews are an excellent place to start. Who doesn't like to hear about delicious food? haha :thumbsup2 Jiko is a great one to add to the list! :)

Hi Tracy! I'm so glad you enjoyed your meal at Jiko too. I'd love to read your dining review if you start one. :goodvibes

Aww! Don't even worry about it. That day was a little busy for us as well. (We don't even have the excuse of running 13.1 miles though. ;)) I'm sure we'll all be able to see each other on another trip. I hope you had a great time in the half marathon! :goodvibes

Thanks alliebelle! :)

I think that you'd have an incredible stay at AKL. It's such a beautiful resort. You really have to stay there to appreciate all the details of it. And the food is wonderful! :thumbsup2

Thanks so much! :) We are adding some new restaurants to our schedule for our next trip as well. It's so much fun to try new things. :goodvibes

Boma

Our first morning, we came to breakfast very excited because of our already fabulous experience at the AKL. Boma is another wonderful restaurant at the resort. This buffet-style restaurant has a little bit of everything—if you want cereal, they have it; if you want chakalaka, they have it. So, it’s a great place for a group with a range of preferences. Naturally, we tried a little bit of everything. Here’s what we had.

This is one of Mom’s plates. One it (starting at top left and going clockwise) we have a sticky bun, a cinnamon roll, and a cranberry scone. Mom wasn’t particularly impressed with anything on this plate. She said that the cinnamon roll was they best, but that they were all dry and that the scone had no significant flavor.

This is another one of Mom’s. This simple waffle with syrup was “VERY good, even though it didn’t have ears on it”. (She’s so cute, isn’t she?!) :teeth:

Mom’s onion, mushroom, and cheese omelet was good, but had too much onion.

Scrambled eggs with chives, cheese, and ham were VERY good, as were the grilled asparagus and bread pudding.

This is my first plate food, and it was divine! :cloud9: The pineapple was a little sour for my taste, but juicy. On the other hand, (goodness, I don’t even know where to start!) the bread pudding with a caramel pecan sauce was so moist and delicious. I hate raisins, but they were so tasty and almost juicy in this. The sauce was very rich and went great with the flavors of the bread pudding. The sausage had a particular sage flavor. The corned beef is on the short list of my favorite dishes of the trip. It wasn’t tough or too salty, but really a very nice consistency with delicious seasoning around the outside. I also love that it’s served via carving station (pictures to follow).

This is my plate of pancakes (regular and chocolate chip). The chocolate chip pancakes weren’t my favorite, however, I could tell that it was a matter of preference rather than good or bad. If you don’t like a strong cocoa flavor in chocolate chips, this isn’t for you. However, the “cake” part of these and the regular pancakes were very light and delicious. I thought the syrup had an odd flavor, so I wouldn’t be trying that again.

A simple bowl of corn flakes can be oh, so delicious. A note for anyone who hasn’t dined at Boma before: If you want cereal, you get a bowl from the buffet and then ask your server for milk. Go ahead and tell you server at the beginning of your meal if you know you’ll be wanting some cereal later on; it can take a little while for the milk to make its way to your table. :thumbsup2

Here are some pictures of the buffet that you may appreciate:

SPOILER ALERT: I have a bonus segment coming up on the review, so stay tuned for more! pixiedust:

Emmy, please tell us that you had some of their absolutely delicious juice.

Great Boma breakfast review :)

We have eaten dinner there in the past but I would love to try breakfast one day. It looks like they have a really interesting selection of food, and not just the regular breakfast buffet offerings

Looking forward to the bonus section!

Oh my Boma how I love thee! Great review, Emmy. I'll have to tell my hubby to try that bread pudding when we are there two weeks from today.

Please tell me and your mom tried the fabulous juice?

Yes I did! that's actually one of the only drinks besides water that I'll drink, especially on vacation. :)

Yum! I don't think there's anything bad at Boma. :goodvibes

Boma is one of our favorites! It's a must do on every trip. We have yet to try breakfast though, however I have heard that it is one of the better breakfast in WDW.... From your pictures this looks true!!!

Just read your Jiko review and I remember one of my dining partners had the short ribs. I remember her saying how amazing they were. I am definitely making an ADR here in October. I think its time to go back!

Thanks Linda! :goodvibes

DH kept himself happy with the carved meats and there was a ton of interesting veggie options for me
The soups in particular are yummy :thumbsup2

Love Boma for breakfast and love it even more at dinner :). If only we had one here in San Antonio!
