what do you think when you see this:

swastikart.gif

My first thought is 2 earth worms dancing. My 2nd thought is blah-I don't like what that symbolizes.

Right behind you JTB-(where's that chicken?)

the swastika that i posted is an ancient symbol of good luck. kind of like a 3000 year old smily face.
the swastika was used by many cultures throughout the past 3,000 years to represent life, sun, power, strength, and good luck.

Even in the early twentieth century, the swastika was still a symbol with positive connotations. For instance, the swastika was a common decoration that often adorned cigarette cases, postcards, coins, and buildings. During World War I, the swastika could even be found on the shoulder patches of the American 45th Division and on the Finnish air force until after World War II.

anyways, the Nazi swastika is counterclockwise and rotated 45º.

they took an ancient symbol of life and perverted it.

I can't believe I'm coming back to this one...to add, didn't the Nazis turn it about 45 degrees?

Now I'm backin' out...slowly...

first impression Nazi....

Interesting artile spago!

Don't be mad Spag :)...that symbol IS still prevalent in many Buddhist monasteries in Asia if I recall correctly...not the inverted one, but the one you displayed...you're correct, different symbolism for different parts of the world...

Interesting... just saw this one now and my first thought was the swastika because I did think that the Nazi's had changed the orientation of it. But what I thought was interesting was I had no idea it was quite that old of a symbol. Thanks Hes... very neat to read :)

Thank you for the history lesson. I didn't know that.
