Just wondering how many of you in the "lower points" club ( 150) end up with the "disease" that you want to go to WDW more often that you have points for and end up paying CASH for another trip or a portion ?? That is untill you can do the add on ....lol ??

My DH and I have only 150 points, we bought Dec 2002. Have only been once to WDW since (Oct 2003). I have got the bug to add on, but right now it is not the time. We have three young boys so we have to think of their future before my desire to go to WDW so much. ( Wow that sounds so grown up).

However, we will be taking two nice trips in 2005. One in March staying in a studio at VWL for 4 nights. The other in October in a 2bedroom plus I will get a 2 studios for other family members, now we can only stay Sun-Thurs. But we will spend the weekend at the allstars.

So for now I have to be careful with our points until we can addon.

Sharon

We bought 150 in Oct.'03. We figured that we would go every other year. Then it became we'll go once a year and stay in a studio. Then we figured that we wouldn't use points on Fri/Sat nights and we would stay someplace else and move over to BWV on Sundays, in a studio. Well, I just bought an addtl. 50 pts. Now we can stay for a week, once a year, in a 1-bdrm. unit. But I think we'll be stopping at 200 pts.

We are kind of in the goofy4tink boat also. We bought our first 150 points with the intention of staying in a 1 BR in Dec and a studio at another time during the year. Well, we stayed in a studio 1 time and that was all it took. We immediately added an additional 75 points to be able to do the 1 BR every time.

We've had our points for almost three years now and have taken one trip. We did cruise (on cash, but we would have used cash anyway).

We haven't been too tempted for more trips for us - we have been tempted by the "guest factor" to add on. It would be great to take more friends and relatives (and of course, we'd want to share, and with so many friends and relatives we'd go more often), but its more than points holding us back. Its actually dealing with the friends and relatives - its nice in the fantasy world, but in the real world there are problems.

I see another trip and paying cash as a "feature" of DVC, not necessarily a problem - and one of the reasons we haven't added on. I'd love to stay at AKL while my kids are little yet. I want a second honeymoon trip to the Grand Floridian sometime. My husband really wants to stay at the Contemporary and the Poly. DVC doesn't fix the "need to stay at all the resorts" bug. So if we do need another "fix" we will be happy to pay cash to meet the need of an AKL stay.

I purchased 150 points several months ago at SSR. I figured I could go to Disney twice per year, during the off season, and stay in a studio. Or if I want to take my parents/friends for a treat I could go once per year and stay in 1 or 2 bedroom (trying to avoid the Fri/Sat high point nights)

I may find that I need more points. But for now 150 is working.

We(3 of us)'ve had 150 BWV points since Dec. '02 and have only been to WDW once so far(8 days/7nights at BCV) and are headed down to Vero Beach in less than 2 weeks for 6 days/5 nights. So far 150 points have worked out fine for us since we only want to do a Disney vacation once a year at most since we like our non Disney vacations too.

When we originally bought we had planned to take our DVC vacation during Choice season(my favorite time of year at WDW is October!), however we didn't realize that our school system highly discourages pulling kids out for vacation, so now we have to rethink what we're going to do!

I'm going to wait until we get home from Vero Beach before I tell my DH that I have the add on disease - who knows maybe he'll have it too!

I only want an additional 50 points at most but I would want them at BCV.

In that situation now and we are on the waitlist for a BWV contract of 150 points we dropped our SSR contract and got ROFR'd on a resale at BWV.

We only have 150 points. But when we bought into DVC, we bought the 150 points with the understanding that we would go once a year and stay in a 2 bedroom Sun-Thurs. Of course, we would like to go more often, but with 2 daughters in private school, mortgage, car payment etc, it's not feasible at this time.
We are happy with the time get to spend there each summer. It gives us something to look forward to!
Maybe one day, we'll be able to add on more points:earsgirl:

So far it hasn't been a problem, but when I bought my resale a couple of years ago, all the points from the previous year were banked, so we took an extra week the first year, and then we borrowed enough to take two weeks this May/June. Now we're back to the standard one week each year, we'll see how long it lasts.

Uh, yeah....

Started with 168. Added on a few...now we have 200.

But now we have 3 kids....and we've realized we want to take others with us more often, and we want to go by ourselves also.

The way I see it...we need twice the points we have. But what have we done? We've stayed with cash and AP rates....Polynesian, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Port Orleans French Quarter and Riverside, and All Star Movies.

Yeah, we still have a few more resorts to hit before we've done them all....but we really need more points.

When we bought our 1st contract of 200 points, we used to go and stay in a regular resort Friday, Saturday, & Sunday night, then we'd move to the DVC resort for Monday through Thursday night. That helped us stretch our points, plus it gave us the ability to experience many of the WDW resorts and was kind of fun, because it almost seemed like 2 vacations. Usually, we could find some kind of discount on the regular resorts for the weekend stay, so it was pretty cost-effective too.

We just bought 230 at BWV. That's plenty for a 1 bedroom in the Fall or Winter every year. I'm sure we will add on in the future because we have 3 young children (2,5,&7). As they get a little older I know we will need a 2 bedroom. It's also possible that we would need more points for summer vacations as the kids get higher in school grades. Because we have 3 kids, the value and moderate resorts are out. If it came down to paying for deluxe resorts that sleep 5 or buying more points, I think I'd rather buy the points!:wave2:

Hi, we are in the same boat as you, we have 3 kids 4,7,10 and can't stay in the moderate or value without two rooms. I can't see putting my husband in one room and me in the other and splitting the kids up. That is part of the reason we purchased back in May 02 and that the main part of our vacations are pre-paid forcing us to take a vacation as it was 5 years between each prior visit to Disney. We thought every two years will be fine but ended up going last year without the kids on the members only cruise - first taste of DVC living. We all love it and want to have our families enjoy it along with us. We are taking my brother-in-law who has never been to Disney and he has two grown sons in October to show him what he has missed with his kids and can enjoy with his nieces and nephew now. We ended up purchasing 150 BCV in May 02 and added another 150 SSR in August 03. I think that will be it for us.

We bought this spring and I already want to add on. We just got back from a studio at VWL, which was adequate since there were only two of us. Later this year we will be at OKW in a two bedroom. We did/will pay cash for the weekends. No big deal with a passholder discount or members discount.

I have already borrowed 140 of my 150 points for 2005 - treated my family to 9 nights in a 2 bedroom. Wow, did we get spoiled! For my January trip I am hoping for a good AP rate and will be paying cash.

In April I can begin borrowing my 2006 points so....DVC here I come on April 13! Two nights at a studio in Vero, 2 nights at my parents' house in Ocala, then 4 nights in a studio at WDW (probably OKW). I am figuring about 70 points for this trip. Then I am done with WDW for awhile and will let my points build up for awhile.

In the meantime, I need to go to Europe sometime before I croak.

Disease it is...
We began with 220 points. After 4 add-ons we have 770 points. We STILL use cash and AP discounts for some weekends because we use up our points treating family and friends. In our case there is no hope of recovery, I'm afraid.

We currently own 150 points at SSR. We have three children 24, 20, and 8. My plan is to be able to gift each child 150 points when they marry and begin having families of their own. So at some point my DH and I may own 450 - 600 points. For this purchase we went through DVC, but in the future I will probably purchase resell.

I bought a 100 point resale and figured it'd work out that I could either do about a week in a studio every year, or two 5 night stays in a studio using a sun-thur night plan. I then pay cash on the weekends for a moderate.
I know that will continue to work out for me but, I do want an add on. My plan is to be patient until I can get a part time job with Disney, and then work just long enough to get the CM discount. My goal is to do the add on in about a year.

We have a 200 point contract at SSR and stayed in a studio this summer for 12 nights but we fell in love with all the pics of VWL and did a small add on of 60 points in case it gets harder in the future to book at 7 months. We are trying to be conservative now with our points by staying in studios because I'm sure in a few years my DD and DS will no longer be willing or able to share the queen sleeper sofa so we'll be looking at 2 bdr from then on
