but my questions were answered...so thanks anyhow

Hi all!! We are heading to the World in August and this time my step kids are coming along...due the fact that I am extremely Wicked in the Step mothering arena AND my s-kids are going to be 8 and 5...I feel they should pack their own dang autograph books around! So does anyone have any suggestions for kid friendly bags that are light weight, not backpacks (too HOT in August for BP's and this would lead to whining and possibly the death of one or both children...I'm wicked like I said...don't judge...) Just something they can carry easily that would fit an autograph book and a pen and maybe a trinket or two? We will rent a double stroller b/c as I mentioned before, whining of any kind could be deadly and WDW is a LOT of walking and Hey, I might need a ride myself!
These are kids that pretty overindulged in at least one half of their life and they have this aversion to "carrying" anything. This aversion makes me nuts and I'm tackling it NOW so when it's time for Disney we won't be all shocked at having responsibility of our own...![]()
SO to recap...smallish, not too bulky or backpacky...manageable for kids.
thanks y'all!!!![]()
Poor babies, your post is kinda mean. These type of post always bother me since my son has to deal with a stepmother. Luckily the two of them have always gotten along great.
Anyway to answer your question. My son has always used the nylon, drawstring backpacks in the parks. They hold all of his stuff and aren't hot at all.
If you can't find a bag that will work or that they are willing to carry, just have their dad play pack mule for the week.![]()
My grandchildren, three girls and one boy always wear fanny packs at Disney..and it works out just fine....![]()
okay, public service announcement over...I'm not that wicked...![]()
Fanny packs work out great. However you will want to watch to make sure they don't leave them behind anywhere. Isn't that what a mom does. I am a mom and grandma and I have never minded carrying things for the children. Your attitude that came through in the question is kinda scarey to me. I hope between now and August you grow to love your step kids in a more motherly way. Enjoy
CampbellScot, IMO, don't sweat it. Just like in real life, everyone brings their own "stuff" to this board. As a kid of a (wicked) step, I'm sure you get that. Good for you for caring enough to not just give-in to unacceptable behaviors!
...it rubbed me the wrong way to have *ahem* "REAL" moms suggest that I wasn't loving to my step kids b/c I required them to be responsible and not whine. Whining is NEVER necessary...talk to me in a normal voice please, tell me what you need and you'll get it, just don't whine about it.![]()

Even though everyone has posted about the bags, I had to add that I too had a "wicked step mother" She is the most amazing woman and I love her dearly. We have joked around (since I was about 12) how she was going to make me polish the silver, vaccum, etc. For my 13th birthday she even gave me a jewelry box that said "To Christen Love your Wicked Step Mother" I'm 30 and still have it....So....I found what you said endearing!
Well and I guess I can say that for the bag thing, DH and I have one backpack that we take everywhere with us...We had a 2 year old in a stroller so it wasn't a big deal to just shove it in the basket underneath. Since you don't have that I guess I would recommend the little fanny packs too!
