Just when I thought covid testing was over…

if testing really is so that it’s basically an honor system where you just send a picture of your test results how would they know if let’s say someone would it take a test today? Just save that picture? Just saying.
It was all theatre. At one point DCL was allowing you to mail in an un-protoctered test.

Or how do they know that swab was even put up a nose before it was used for the test…

the new testing process is just so bizzare for somebody like us that did three Covid observed / paid by DCL at port, where they watched you like hawks, and one where we had to actually have an official proctor that we did via telehealth with observation.

If you test positive in Hawaii prior to boarding, you don't cruise. We assume DCL will refund as they did in the past. And then you get yourself home from there.
I meant what happens if you test positive in Australia before boarding. That may not apply to you, but I’m curious.

Okay, after a bit of research as of today, every state but Massachusetts still tracks covid.

Again misleading. My state shut down their website to report it. It's only tracked for places like hospitals and nursing homes, which as PP says track all kinds of communicable diseases. Not tracked in the general public.

My biggest issue with requiring our cruise to test is that we will literally take a test FOURTEEN days prior in Honolulu and three port stops before entering Sydney. There is absolutely ZERO common sense with that whatsoever. If Aus was really concerned about Covid coming in off of our ship, we would test a day or two before actually getting there.

That said, we are vaxxed and will test and enjoy a fabulous cruise regardless!
My thoughts exactly!

we tested before our cruise last year. Was 11 nights. Tests had to be proctored. Our family of 5, 4 of us got covid on day 8 ish. (that’s when we assume it was because some of us got mild symptoms and simply didn’t test until we got off the ship since it seems like half the ship was coughing anyways, ) My son had covid a couple of months before and didn’t get it. It felt like half of the ship left with Covid ( based on cruise groups post cruise posts)

Same thing in Australia. If you test positive, you don't cruise, and you get yourself home.

I think you are splitting hairs, but okay. Certainly there are many more cases that never get reported at all these days.

I'm glad to know that you don't lock you up in one of their quarantine hotels.
I wish we had that option now. Isolating in a family home with vulnerable people is so difficult. Masking 24/7 is hard, avoiding all common spaces while you're still testing positive, not using the same kitchen, bathroom anything. Being able to separate from family members who might die from catching Covid was a wonderful relief.

Cruising is probably not a good idea for you then.

Well, the quarantine hotels and all expenses like food were covered by the cruise lines. Now, you're on the hook for all the costs.
