Just when I think I've seen it all...

This past October we were doing our Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. At the walk there are no pets allowed due to liabilities issues. I had no problem that morning telling people that their dogs had to leave the registration area. However, one women wheels over her pet dog in a stroller. This dog had a blanket and coat on while all snug in the dog stroller. The owner was proudly pushing her dog around is if it was a toddler. I couldn't even say anything to her about having the dog in the area. What was suppose to say....wheel your dog off the grounds?

When we were in Key West a few years ago, we saw dogs and cats in strollers, but they weren't special pet strollers. They were being wheeled around in regular baby strollers. We saw at least one cat wearing a bib.

We also saw a man walking four dogs down DuVal Street and all the dogs, and the guy, were wearing sunglasses. We saw many dogs wearing hats, visors, and t-shirts, usually all color coordinated to match a collar and/or leash. One dog even had on boxers. I kid you not!!!

Most shopping malls out here are outdoors and pet friendly.

Most people carry their dog around in pet carriers, some costing as much as my first car, have yet to see a stroller though. I have seen dogs with shoes, sun glasses and once in awhile in "doggles" (dog goggles)

I have a cat and she wouldn't want me dragging her around places, but if I had a dog, I would definitely take it places.

I have seen quite a few people using these at flea markets, usually older people with little lap dogs. :dog:

I like it better when I see a teeny dog stuffed in a purse. It's funny to see just a nose sticking out.

I tend to think that some people definitely think of their pets as people and not animals nowadays. It's just too funny. ;)

I've actually thought about buying one for our cats, but they're so darn expensive!

I guess it would look a little funny, but I can imagine the cats might like to get some fresh air once in a while and at least mine wanted no part of a leash!

I actually do think I'm going to get one of those Kittywalk enclosures for them. I can stake it right into the ground and let them enjoy the outdoors safely!

Wow the 15th post before anyone mentions the prices for these things. There are many good baby strollers that don't cost this much!!!!!!!!!!!

what I don't get is why do people bring their pets to the store and other places with them? I don't have any pets now, but always had at least a dog or cat growing up and we never brought them any where except to the vet :confused3

Because it's more fun for the pet than being left in the house all day long with no human contact. Which is worse I wonder?

Cepmom..I used to wonder the same thing. When I worked at the mall, people would bring their small dogs and sometimes other animals in with them. It made me go kind of  :scared: :scratchin

They are called HOUSE pets for a reason. Unless they are a service animal or you are taking them someplace where pets are allowed (like PetSmart or the vet or the park or whatever),they stay AT HOME.

Once,a girl came up to my counter with a rather large bunny rabbit in her arms. I looked at the rabbit and went "Oh how cute..I bet he'd taste really good in a stew!" :rotfl2: Needless to say,the girl was not as amused as I was.

TOV

They aren't called "house" pets here. I'm not saying take them to an totally inappropriate store, but sure, why not take them to the mall, walk them around the exterior while some family browse the stores. Clearly some people were not meant to keep pets. I don't find the stew comment remotely amusing. How about saying to a coma victim's family that the person would make a good vegetable curry??? That funny to you?

I actually saw a woman wheeling her cat in a stroller here on good ole Cape Cod.......................and I did laugh out loud in my car....

My neighbors have one for their 2 chichuawa's, they take them on walks every night. They even have a little blanket for them, cracks me up everytime I see them.

:confused3 We have one. The DD likes to take our little dog for a walk. We have the one where the dog cannot jump out. No worse than having your pet sleep with you. :confused3

Surely you see a difference between an animal commonly used for food and a human being. :confused3

I think this personification of animals is unhealthy -- for both the animal and their owners.

Surely you see the difference between what is clearly this lady's pet rabbit, and some meat for a stew? Given that the lady with the rabbit was clearly offended, I don't find this comment funny. I hope she took the little misunderstanding up with the store manager. I also pray that you don't keep animals yourself, oh wait, of course you don't. :paw: :dog: :scratchin

Um, yes, of course I do. But I also realize that they are animals -- not children, not people, not humans -- animals.

Therein lies the difference between an animal-lover and an animal-keeper. JMHO.

There was one and only on dog at our Cancer Walk this year and that dog was a guide dog for the lady I was interpreting for. She's deaf-blind. It was great to see her and her dog take that walk around the track with everyone else. And yes I did walk with her. I'm a survivor too.

I was selling candy in the mall for a fundraiser yesterday and saw a lady pushing a bright pink/black one - sure stood out. Inside was a Yorkie. Seemed to enjoy itself as it was was standing and watching out the front of it. I think it is crazy but to each his own.

Whatever you say.

My pets are extremely well cared for and loved. Just because I don't equate them with my children doesn't make me any less of an "animal lover."

Besides which, you proved my argument for me by using the word animal. :teeth:

Funny you should mention that. We went running at the lake this morning and a group of people were out with their dogs (literally like 5 dogs per person) and two of the dogs were in those strollers. We were :rotfl2: .
