Just wanted to thank all the Disers for keeping my spirits up. :dog: I recently had to put my dog down after a sudden turn for the worse and have been reading the forums to help cheer me up. :paw: It's definitely helped me during these rough times :pug:

Please accept my condolences on your loss of your beloved pet :grouphug:

In the last few years I have been through this three times. The hardest being the loss of our beloved yellow lab, Hunter, who began having seizures on a Saturday and we had to have him put down on the Monday afternoon. We tried everything, but he was only getting worse. He was my "baby" through all of our fertility struggles and it was one of the hardest things I had ever been through in my life. My parents had a lovely oil pastel drawing done of him and had it framed as a Christmas present for us. It was beautiful and it is very treasured hanging in our hallway :dog:

Please take the time to grieve. Some people don't understand the loss of a pet ... but it is a huge loss when you have had a very close bond with an animal for some time. I found some websites that helped me were www.petloss.com and www.in-memory-of-pets.com. They are sad of course, but somehow it helped me to grieve and help myself to get past the pain I was feeling.

Again ... my sympathies ... hope you are doing better :)

Kerri

My heart goes out to you......................

I was in the same position as you in March 2004. We lost our beloved Westie "Bonnie" to cancer. We missed her badly and cried an ocean.
The house felt very empty and sad without her.

In late April 2004, we brought home our newest addition to the house "MacKenzie" she was 2 1/2 lbs and a little tornado! She greatly helped us get over our grief. We still talk about Bonnie fondly, and notice some similar characteristics with our new baby. I have a lovely collage of photo's of Bonnie that I look at every day.

You will never forget your faithful friend and I'm sure you will always be grateful for having your dog in your life.
Believe me, time does heal.
Think about the good times, as they are the best memories of all!!!

Take Care, :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

Sending lots of hugs! Within the last 2 years I also became a pet owner. Had dogs as a child but we waited until DSon's were in their early teens before I suggested we get one. I now have 2 little girl's, Angel is a black toy poodle, only 5 lbs. and 2 years old. This March I picked up Zoe, she is a brown and gold (brindle) toy poodle, just 8 lbs and 9 months old.

I love them so much I don't know what I would ever do if I lost them.

My heart goes out to you at this difficult time!

Oh, I empathize. This is such a difficult process to go through, not only making the decision but also everything else that goes with it. We had to do this 3 days after my ds was born...such a difficult thing no matter what is going on in your life. As Kerri said, give yourself time to grieve, especially if you are someone to whom pets have an extra special place in your life and heart. Our Meggie was our baby when we thought we wouldn't have human ones... Try not to feel guilty over having to make the decision either - I know I did, even though we went above and beyond trying to keep her comfortable (including chemo). Try to focus on the happy memories to help you through....
