ughhhhh..i just needed a place to vent. We leave for WDW in 13 days for 6 days and my husband had emergency surgery on his calf last Friday..:sad2:
he will be fine...but the healing process seems to be taking longer than expected..he still cant walk with out a cane or put any pressure on his left calf..ughh..how will he walk the parks like that..I dont want to be one of those families with an annoying electric scooter..but if his muscle doesnt get it together i dont know what option DH has..

And work is awful..had my terrible ( i didnt hire her) assistant quit, then she begs for the job back and they give it to her against my urging not tooo...

so anyways..13 days and I cannot wait!!
what a crappy week!!

Total bummer about your husband. FIL just had total knee replacement and it is taking him quite a while to get back to his norm though hes doing much much much better than most people. I'm sure your vacation will be fine as long as you keep a positive outlook on things. And with your assistant... at least you'll be leaving her soon!

I am so sorry. But look on the bright side. He might be on a scooter but its still a vacation... Its amazing how great life is when you are on vacation. As far as the job boy I feel your pain. I am not so happy with mine right now either. But like you I have my count down. 20 Days until I sail on the Wonder and 24 days until we get to WDW. Thats how I am surviving!
Hang in there.

I'm so sorry things are rough. Hopefully your DH will feel better by the time you leave, but if not, don't feel badly about having him rent a scooter. He can still enjoy everything. It might be a litlte more stressful for you, but I'm sure you'll be fine.

We are going to be at DW around the same time as you. We're counting down the days as well. I hope it comes quickly for all of us!

Fingers crossed your DH feels MUCH better soon.

Bummer about Dh but at least he will heal. I know it's not fun or easy. I too had a horrible blow to my Disney excitement yesterday when Dh informed me that we could NOT go to Disney when he turns 40 because of a stupid inspection at work that will take 2 weeks. So rather than turning 40 in the MK, he will be turning 40 slaving away for his J-O-B. We are still going, we just had to delay our trip by 2 weeks. I'm still not really happy about it but on the bright side we are still going and we'll just be celebrating his birthday late. I'm still going to treat the entire vacation as though we were there for his birthday!

Please don't even think about not using a scooter. My DH had back surgery 4 weeks before we left, he tried to walk but he had lost alot of strength from being off his feet for so long. The scooters are great, he wasn't exhausted, he could keep up and we had a basket to put all our stuff!:thumbsup2 It will all be fine!

DH went to the Doc today for follow up and doesnt look like he will be walking the parks..oh well. he can still ride everything. he just cant stress his left leg with the walking. Did you have any trouble renting a scooter?? how much was it?

Nope it's easy to rent a scooter, just go to the scooter rental area, usually by the strollers, give them your info and $40 dollars, they give you a key and a quick lession if you need it. Just know that sometimes if you go to a park in the afternoon they may not have any scooters left to rent, it only happened to us once, so we got a wheelchair that afternoon. Have fun! At least he can go on most rides, and remember to ask the cast member at the beginning of each ride where the scooters should go, some rides they have you ride the scooter almost all the way up to where you board, then you park it and board the ride. It cuts way down on the walking.:goodvibes

While I understand you are upset, the " I don't want to be one of those families with an annoying electric scooter" comment was pretty hateful. Your DH is in one for a short time while many of "those families" are in one forever.

If you check on the disabilities boards, they are really helpful and can give you lots of good information about renting scooters both on and off site.

Yikes! "hateful" is a pretty strong word, don't you think?

referring to a disabled person as annoying is pretty hateful from where I come from. I know the OP is disappointed, but many of those annoying people have to live in chairs everyday and I am sure they would love to be up walking around and not "annoying" people if they could.

It looks to me that the original poster was referring to the electric scooters as being annoying--not the individuals riding them. And yes, I would have to agree that anything that upsets the flow of traffic in a crowd does tend to be annoying. It's human nature--or at least, it's my human nature. That doesn't mean that I curse people who are disabled, or view them as less of a citizen, or feel that they don't have the right to scooter around the Kingdom. And believe me, I count my blessings! I guess we just interpreted the comment a little differently.

There. I'm sure OP meant no offense.

"Lady", I'm sorry to hear of DH's injury and I hope his recovery is swift. On the brighter side, pain aside, where better to spend some time healing than WDW?

Good Luck!

by "annoying" i meant...clogging lines, messing up traffic "flow", us trying to get used to one when we have never used one things like that..it is more annoying for US than anyone else!! especially when he has no real long term disablity. I have no "hatred" towards anyone let alone people with disabilities. I am sorry you misinterpreted my tone. and my husband being a prideful man is going to get easily annoyed at his inability to just do what he wants..

Thus the "annoyance" with a scooter...

From the nurse in me....make sure your husband is eating well, lots of protein, drinking lots of water and resting to aid in his super, very quick healing...and tell him to hurry up about it...:rotfl:
