Just took our bottles back....

I am sooo glad I don't live in a state that charges a bottle/can fee. Hated that while we were stationed in NY. Here, we just crush cans and take them to the recycle place. It is so nice to save up and wait for the price to go up, then take them in and get a good chunk of change. Bottles, toss those into the recycle bin and the city picks them up.

We pay a recycling fee of 2 cents for every bottle, can or juice box that we buy. We don't get any money back from it either. We either just throw it out or recycle it.

The place I was going has a limit of 10.00 per day in cans/bottles they will refund....I just put them in the recycle container and on garbage day some hobo comes by and picks them out- I figure he can use the money more than I can.

I can buy another case of water - with the deposits I get back from 2 previously purchased cases.. Considering I get at least 2 cases a week while I'm up here at the lake (around 7 months), it would be pretty foolish of me to pass that up..:thumbsup2

Yes, returnables are a pain you know where. We always end up putting it off until we are going to go on vacation and then start the whole return process. We usually end up with $200-$250...It is embarrasing to say the least. You can only bring back $25 at a time so there are many trips with the 3 of us each taking the $25...the cash is nice, but the process is a big pain

This is a recycling center- it's all they do (they do sell kegs and beer) so they have no limit. I'm so glad to have all those bags of bottles out of our garage!!:thumbsup2

That makes a lot of sense, charge people to recycle :confused3

We don't have any associated fees for cans/bottles whatever. We have single sort recycling that picks everything up at the curb-they supply a large garbage can on wheels for that. We just dump all of our recyclables in there, they take it away-easy.

Wow....and I was feeling lame because yesterday we took back about $25 worth....but that's in MI where you get 10 cents for each....the OP's Maine returns must have been massive!

Michigan didn't used to charge a bottle deposit and it was awful to see all the bottles and cans along the roadsides. That changed drastically when they implemented the 10 cents per bottle/can. You almost never see a bottle or can on the roadside. If someone does throw one out, someone else picks it right up quick. Those dimes do add up.

We don't have any local recycling centers. People in town have individual recycling bins that get picked up the same time as garbage, but out here in the country we don't have that. I wouldn't have any idea where to go if I had to recycle the cans/bottles.

We take ours back every few weeks, usually get around $20 back then we treat ourselves to a couple nice steaks for on the grill. :)

we do bottle drives for an 8th grade fundraiser. We make in average $1000 a year just on bottle returns. That pays for 1 1/2 kids to go to DC and all the graduation needs (cap, gown, yearbook, etc...)

I use mine for our disney fund. I cash in the slips and add that money to our disney bucket. I never use change to pay for things, I always pay with paper money and dump the change into the disney bucket.

This past fall I started taking ours back to Hannaford using their Clynk program. It's awesome. I just fill up the bags, when I have time drop them off, they process them and add the amount to your account. You can get a slip to cash in anytime. I like to let it add up and then get a slip. A kinda funky way to save a little.
