So I'm sitting her waiting to take a shower before going to dinner and I wanted to post some thoughts. Maybe it will help those still learning like myself.

1. Summer with a heavy camera sucks in the parks. Lol not that it's a bad thing it just isn't comfortable like the winter months so a good strap is key. I deff need a new one and I deff think I'm going with a rapid strap cause I'm hating my camera hanging in front of me vs my side.

2. I'm so glad I learned how to use manual mode with a flash cause I can shoot with such a larger f/stop for character ops vs using av mode and letting the camera pick a speed. I'm finding I can be at least 2 stops higher with having the same shutter speed on manual and the flash. Well except for something like Ariel. That meet and great sucks. It just sucks. Everything at Hollywood studios inside is great so far. With Ariel I was stopped down to f/4.5 and about 1/100 and an ISO of 1250 and just not happy. Not a high enough f/stop for the kid and Ariel. We have to re do it. The lighting is horrible to. But I know I know it's about the experience. I won't even go on with belle! Holy colors! That room is red then blue then yellow. It was cute though. We all liked it. Very interactive.

3. Fantasyland expansion is a photographer night and day shooting dream. There is so much going on over there. I just need to be on my own though with a 3 ur old and a 10 mth old it's not happening. Especially cause suddenly my 3 ur old hates having her pic taken anymore. She used to sit for an hr and let me take pics of her. Now she won't unless with a character.

4. It's hot. Did I say that? Lol

It's just day 2 so I'm sure ill have more to say. October we r with myomere and dad so I'm coming with a new tripod and just myself for a night in mk and handing the kids to off to the manny and nanny grandparents! Lol. Maybe my wife and I can get some quality shooting in then. I don't want to take away any time this trip with the kids. They r having a ball though. Alot diff with 2 vs just Kate though. We were spoiled those 3 trips. And oh we were even more spoiled before we had em and didn't know it for all those years but I wouldn't trade it in for the world as I lay here next to my daughter as she snores in my ear as I type! Lol

When you say larger f/stop do you mean higher number (i.e. smaller aperture)?

Do you use your camera's built in flash or do you have one that attaches on the top?
I'm deciding what equipment to take with me in October.

I'm also worried about missing photo ops. We're taking our 2 kids who are 2 and 5, but Nanny & Grandfie are coming too, so I'm hoping to snatch a little bit of time here and there to sneak off.

Higher number.

I'm using my 430 ex on my 7d with a joe demb saucer for a reflector. It works great here for bouncing the flash.

P t with got my parents so hopefully I can shoot more. Between heat and youngster kids it's touch.

I totally understand your frustration. I see all those gorgeous park shots posted here on the DIS and always wish I had more time to focus on the photography. But those things aren't going anywhere. Your little kids ARE going somewhere. Don't sacrifice the memories with them and the photos of them at THIS age. As long as you get those, the rest will wait. :goodvibes Soon enough you'll have far too much time for the photography.

Soon you'll start doing what I do and take lots of shots from behind and from the side. I have to have lenses with a very quiet focus motor so I can sneak in shots before they see me! :)

My boys are 18 and 20 now and I cherish the few photos I have of them at Disney when they were younger. Don't give up. Find a comfy way to keep the camera on you all the time and keep shooting. You'll really treasure those shots later.

What is crazy is the first trip when she was 13 mths I have at least 200 pics of her. The second trip not so many cause she started to be difficult. The third she was with her cousin so I have a lot again. This trip all I got is character pics so far. And I don't have a ton of the baby yet cause he is only crawling so he is in the stroller alot and being carried so not as many.

We r back in October so hex will be walking so I bet ill get a ton of him then cause he will be like she was the first trip.

I am going to buy a black rapid strap cause I hate my camera hanging in front of me. When we had just one kid I was able to carry my camera with my strap wrapped around my wrist. Now with 2. No way that's happening. I don't mind having my camera by my side so this will prob be a good strap for me.

It's just a stage. At least she'll take photos with the characters. In the mean time, get creative and get shots of her from behind gazing at the castle. Get shots of her interacting with her young sibling. Get shots of her pointing at the ducks. Or whatever else she finds appealing.

And I have loved using my Black Rapid strap in the parks. It has been far more comfortable to carry than with my old neck strap.

I am used to visiting in December and carry a heavy backpack with a variety of lenses so I can get all the shots I want. On our visit a week ago I was at the mercy of the heat and went light. I went with just my 17-55 f/2.8, my UWA and my Sigma 30mm. No reach past 55 in the MK. And it was just fine. I didn't miss it at all.

I do recall our late September 2009 trip when it was so hot I went with just my kit lens and the body. No extras. But it was so hot I just didn't want to mess with it. And that was fine too. Lots of other opportunities in cooler weather since then.

That's my biggest problem is threat with the heavy cAmera. All I'm taking with me each day is my body and 24-70 2.8. That's it and my external flash. Everything else is at the room in my travel bag. I'm more than good enough actually with just that for he kids.
