I just entered my son and I for the Everest Challenge! I am SO excited, and more than a little nervous! Ha! I have never done any sort of race like this! I am currently training with C25K so hopefully this will be a GREAT motivator!!

:goodvibes

I really want to do this one this year. Only thing that has me hesitating some is that I am doing CMM half marathon the week before and that is a lot of travelling. Need to make a decision here soon. :/

Good luck on the C25K. I graduated back in June 2005 and haven't looked back!

That's great Katie! I have tried C25K before and always seem to get sideline around week 4 - I have gotten shin splints a few times. I am trying to take it really slot. I am repeating week 2 now. :)

Have you done Everest before? I'd love to hear what it was like!

You got this! A race is the perfect goal to help you stick to your plan. Have you been fitted by a running store for your shoes to make sure they aren't causing the shin splints. Another idea lots of my friends with a history have splints have used is compression sleeves for the lower leg while running. Just some options to help prevent them from recurring this go round.

I have never done Everest before. It is the one Disney race I haven't done, which is why I want to do it this year so bad. I would say that I haven't spoken to anyone yet that hasn't had a great time doing EEC. Many people go back year after year. :)

Me too!!! I'm going to do Expedition Everest as my first 5K. Woo hoo.

Cherie - That is awesome!!! Glad to know I am not the only 5k newbie! :goodvibes I started week 3 of C25K today and the session went pretty well!

Katie - Thanks for the encouragement and advice. ::lovestruc I did get fitted for good running shoes (big shoutout to Marathon Sports in Wellesley, MA!). It has really helped - I used to have some trouble with plantar fasciitis and have had NO foot pain since I got them. So far this go-round the shins are pretty good. I have lost 35 pounds since I last tried this, and I imagine that helps. :confused3

Cherie you are?!?!?

DS14 and I are running it too!! It will be my first 5K.

Sandy, how old is your son?

DS is a cross country runner and the other kids seem to be following in his footsteps so I figure what better way to spend time with my kids.

DD19 and I will be participating in our 4th EEC this year! We've enjoyed every year so far (even the year 2 deluge). Looking forward to May!

You will love it! My friend and I did the couch to 5k. We then celebrated our 40th birthdays with expedition everest. Yes it was in the year of the deluge, but still a blast! This year I am doing the wine and dine 1/2 marathon. Good luck!

I plan to sign up and run (Just need to wait till next month to spread out the $$) I am doing the Royal Family 5K as my first but am super excited for Everest!

i love Marathon Sports!!! I go to the one in Norwell and ever since getting properly fitted for sneakers I have had little no no problems. They are great

I am also signing up for EEC! I can't wait. it will be my 1st Disney Race and I am going back down in for Food and Wine. I am so excited!!

Yep. Are you Buffy? It's crazy, but I have 'the bug' now. I started C25K but switch to the penguin plan (since carrie told me about it). I love it. I've been on it since November, minor set back when i was sick for two weeks, but back on. So I should be ready!!! Although, my mom was going to travel with me and now it looks like I will be solo.

Sandy, nope, you aren't the only running newbie. :) I started a few months ago...figured it would help me get in shape...now i have all these goals so I'm bound to get there... I want to do the half princess in 2012 and the jan 2013 full marathon. :)

I did it last year and LOVED it but we'll be on vacation in TN this year during it.

Have a great time!

I did this with a friend and my DD and her friend. It was the year of the rain, but we had such a fantastic time. I have been longing to do it again but the times just haven't worked.

As corny as it sounds, get matching shirts, almost everyone has something and believe me some are really crazy but fun to look at.

Newbie here too!! DS runs cross country but I am soooo not a runner. Guess I have to turn into one because all my kids run XC.

Yep, we are running. I still need to hammer out airfare though.

Tell me about the penguin plan.
I've been doing C25K but I got plantar factitious so I've had to start over.

I think Emily is running solo too. Hopefully we can all meet up. Where are going to stay?

DS and I picked our team name so I'm going to make T's to match.

I'm soooo excited!

This is my own thread, and I haven't checked it in a while! Weird I wasn't getting emails ... :confused3

My son will be 16. He turns 16 3 weeks from yesterday while we are on our family trip to WDW. :cloud9: As part of his bday present I am going to put together an 'announcement' that he and I are going down for Everest. :yay: We had talked about doing it so I know he really wanted to, but I had told him awhile ago that we might not be able to afford to (which was real, but DH and I have decided that DS and I can do it). I am SO looking forward to this special 1x1 time with him.

LOVE the idea of matching tees. We usually do them for our family trips. As a matter of fact I spend a fair amount of my day yesterday doing Mickey Tie Dyes for my family. I had wondered about making them for the race. I wasn't sure if we would want to wear the ones we get at Packet Pick Up?

SO happy to hear from so many people doing it and those who have done it and loved it! I am really nervous about not keeping up the pace. I don't know why - so far in my training I have been well under the 16 min/mile. I just really want to do this and get our medals!!

For those who have done this ... when we go to Packet Pick Up, do we just bring the confirmation email as proof of registration??? What is the procedure?

TIA1 :thumbsup2

I remember just using my drivers license.
