At the Mystic Aquarium - We're signed up for June 20th (Father's Day). Program is an hour. $54 ea - This should be fun, something to look forward to.

Have Fun! I've never done any of the encounters. Let us know how it goes.

P.S. you reminded me I need to renew my membership. Thanks.

Ooooh! I'll have to look into that as my DS9 LOVES penguins! We'll be down to Mystic in July - love that place! So much better than the aquarium in Boston, in my opinion. (and much easier (and cheaper) to get to!

Have fun!

Jill

Youngest DS LOVES penguins! He would be soo jealous! Sounds like fun!:D

"This program offers participants a close-up encounter with an African penguin and an opportunity to learn about important conservation and environmental issues concerning these animals. the program's duration is approximately 60 minutes and includes a 30-minute session with an African penguin. Participants will be able to perform simulated veterinary exams on the penguins, as well as engage the birds in enrichment activities."

children must be a minimum of 6yrs to participate

go to their website mysticaquarium.org and check under new & ongoing exhibits

Ive been considering doing this for a while now. They also have whale encounters but DS is not quite tall enough yet.

Just as a matter of interest how tall do you HAVE to be to encounter a whale:confused:

Cheers,
Grumbo

One needs to be 5' tall in order to participate in the beluga whale encounter. DS is just a few inches under.

I asked DH last night if he had any plans on Fathers Day and he said no, said he may go to Foxwoods. DS & I spend our wknds w/out DH anyways - not surprised DH doesnt want to spend the day w/DS on Fathers Day. (I definately want to be w/DS on Mothers Day).

:( :( :( That's about the saddest thing I've read all day. :( :(

DD and I did the penguin encounter recently...it was great fun. She can't wait to be tall enough to the whale one. Enjoy!

Is it okay for adults to do this without kids? My DBF and I want to go but will we get told no because we don't have kids?

Sure! Anyone can do it...DD just has a thing for all things aquatic (just like her mom) and it was the one she could do given her age and height.

Mystic Aquarium will take the cash from anyone...children or no children :)

Thanks. I can't wait. I adore penguins and I did not even know this existed until today! I'll probably look into the whale one too sometime, but right now, it's penguins. They are just so cute.

it's so sad when a father doesn't want to spend father's day with his son.

maybe I should take my girls up to the aquarium one of the weekends that they're not wtih their father. the penguin thing sounds like fun.

You have signed DS and you up for this on father's day? What about Daddy? Is he having an alone father's day?

My DS(10) and I love Mystic Aquarium, can wait to go back this July. I was thinking about doing the whale encounter with him this year but the penguin one sounds good too. Here are a couple pictures I took last year.
