You don't know how good it makes me feel to come to this site daily.:D

I have found so much support here - from a group of total strangers - but strangers no more. ;)

I have a wonderful husband and loving children and we all miss Bobby terribly and worry daily for his safety. Our family and friends are of great support to us and our church has rallied around us.

I've quickly come to realize that there is nothing I can do for my son but pray (and of course send his weekly CARE packages and lots of letters).

I have seven beautiful children, but right now, this one is my heart and soul. Everytime I hear on the radio or television of another Marine having been killed, I get that feeling in my stomach - and I whisper a quick prayer.

God Bless you all and thank you for being my friends. :D

Stay strong Patty, your resolve and your commitment are inspirational to all of us.

I know what you mean in more than one way Patty. It is great that everyone is able to help support each other.

And I feel a knot of fear in my stomach every time I hear about a soldier or a marine death now. (LOL, I don't even know Bobby but I still worry about him too!)

I too pray for Bobby as if I know him! I search out your threads daily to see if there is any news. You have brought Bobby into our hearts Patty. I do refer to him as my "adopted Marine" & each morning as I'm getting my sweet 17 month old son up & changing his diaper & P.J.'s, I think of you, that not so long ago, that was your baby on the changing table & look at where he's at now.

We just never know what God has in store for us but we have to have patience in knowing that this is our destiny & whatever our future will be, we have to approach it with great respect & prayer.

I am in "awe" of your strength Patty. Maybe that's what "Shock & Awe" means....our Military is "Shocking" evil Suddam & the "Awe" is coming from the strength & inspiration our Military's family is showing in this crisis.

God Bless you.

This board is helpful to me, as I don't know anyone in my daily life that has a family member in the military. Reading your personal stories makes it all very real, and makes me want to 'do' something in a tangible way for people. But prayers and words of support can be tangible, too, I guess, and I'm so glad to know they are helpful to you. :)

Now Mishetta....don't you go and make me cry. ;)

As others have said here, Patty, we are very glad to be of some help to you during this difficult time. However, you are the real inspiration to us. The courage, strength, and faith you display to us, while your precious son in on the front lines of this war, are both inspirational and awesome.

Our hearts go out to you and your family each and every day. I can only imagine the stress all of you are under now. We send you prayers that God will keep Bobby safe and give you strength and peace daily.

Marie

I am amazed of the strength I see in the famiies here who have a special someone over seas right now. There is no way I could handle it as well.

jamsmom, I think you would surprise yourself if the situation arose. We all do what has to be done.

Patty has done extraordinarily well and I truly admire her.

Thank you, Patty. For taking my mind away from those stupid news channels and putting it on something truly important, our military personnel. I can do something positive now, thanks to you. I feel better shopping and packaging and thinking about things that "my" marines might like me to send them instead of just worrying about everything they are saying on the television. I can concentrate on trying to make someone smile instead of concentrating on current events.

You have given me a new purpose.

I pray for the safety of all of our men and women in harms way.

Though I personally don’t know anyone serving in the military I will continue to say prayers for the troops and the families.

Patti, you have brought your son into our hearts and we will continue to keep him in our prayers and thoughts daily.

Thank you for sharing such a personal part of your life. You are an inspiration to all of us.

God bless your son, the troops and your family.

Patty, you should be thanked for bringing both Bobby and Mike (from his unit) into our lives. Although we don't "know" them, they have become very real to us. We thinking about them as we're out shopping - as in, would they like this. We talk about them at dinner, when the news is on and I share things you post with my family. By your posting and sharing, you have made this war very real to us -- much more so than the news will ever be able to do. God Bless all of you!

Ditto you what they've all said above. I'm so glad to have found someone like you to "share" your son and his unit with my family and me so that we are able to "do something."

Just like after Sept 11, 2001, I think we all feel very helpless (and that sometimes leads to hopeless) when we feel there isn't anything we can do to direct/steer/change our futures. This too is one of those times. Being able to be "part" of this effort helps make us feel we're helping. Thanks for sharing.

Patty,

i agree with the others. Thank you for brining Bobby and his troop into our lives. I feel a lot closer to the who situation now that I "know" someone over there. You have shown us what a wonderful place the DIS can be.

My packages to Bobby and Mike went out today and in both I told them to consider me a cyber-aunt. I hope they get all their care packages soon and have a little time to enjoy the goodies. Even more I hope the whole war is over soon and they are back with their families.

They and all the troops are in my prayers as are their families, especially the families from the DIS.

Patty,
You are definately a strong woman and I thank you for letting us into your life. I pray for his safety everyday, and for you as well.
This is such a difficult time in our lives right now, I am so glad that I have found you all when I most needed it. I have never felt so welcome before.

Melanie

Patty-
I know exactly what you mean. I feel that I have found very deep 'connections' here on the boards. A big one of which is following you and Bobby right now.

When I talk about it to family and friends I'm not quite sure how to 'explain' the connection? When I say 'someone I know from the internet' I get looked at oddly sometimes -- as they can see that I feel a very deep connection. Someone that has not experienced a family oriented board like we do -- will never understand the deep connections to each other that we feel.
:D

I think my son and his unit have a bunch of wonderful "cyber-aunts". ;)

Sometimes at night, I read your responses to my husband and he just shakes his head and smiles. I don't think he understands the friendship and caring that can be found by a bunch of total strangers - but he's starting to get the picture. :D

I feel the connection on this board too. I dont know what I would do without it at this point. What a great family we have become! I have told people about my friends on this board and they just dont "get it". I just say my disney friends.
I start every day looking for news from "our" sons and husbands over there right now. Actually I spend alot of time here, checking it every few hours. Come to think of it, I cant remember the last time I talked about anything Disney related, it just doesnt feel as important to me as it did before. It will again after everyone comes home, but right now, they are top priority in my life.
My greatest fear is when my own son is deployed. It overwhelms me to think about it. There were times when all I could do is curl up in a ball and cry, terrified what would happen next. I come here, see how much support we can all be to each other, and it helps me get out of bed. I really mean it when I say I admire your strength, everyones strength here.
I say, when all is said and done, and our guys are all home safe and sound, we all meet at cinderella's royal table for lunch. I think with us all calling at 7:00am one of us will get the resses. "ah, yes I need to resserve the entire castle, Thank you" What do you think?

It's really funny how you can become so close to someone you really have never met.

With that being said, I too, sign on my computer and check, just to make sure EVERYONE here is OK.

I have cried, held my breath, celebrated and felt pride for our troops, our Country and our mission with the people on this board.

I look every day to see how Titus is doing. I check to see if Melanie's husband called, received a package or wrote a wonderful email. I look to see if all is OK with Bobby. All the while, I look at my children and the life I have and Thank God every second for these truely brave and honorable men and women who serve our Country with great pride. For that no words will ever be enough to express my gratitude.

I too come here every day several times a day to look and read for updates on "our family"and also check several times a day for Fred Dodd's (newspaper man's articles on the unit) ....you don't have to be blood relative to be family and we certainly have a great one on here...I can remember parts of a poem that was given to us when we adopted our sons....not flesh of my flesh, not blood of my blood... you didn't grow under my heart but grew in it.... think that kinda says it all for us " adopted aunts, uncles, mom's and dad's " of our military service personnel... may the Lord be with them....and bring them home soon , safe and sound.

complete poem:

Not Flesh of My Flesh
Not flesh of my flesh
Nor bone of my bone,
But miraculosly my own.
Never forget, even for a minute.
You weren't born under my heart,
But in it.

Hi Patty,

I also don't know anyone personally that's overseas. You have graciously brought Bobby into our lives as you share his travels. You have given us a way for us to do something so we don't feel so helpless. You have assisted hundreds of soldiers become adopted. I know I have passed on OMP to several others so more soldiers will be supported. We all have you to thank for that!!! I pray every day for Bobby's and the rest of our troops safe return. I'm proud to be called one of Bobby's Cyber Aunts!!! My kids think of Bobby as their "Big Brother" that's protecting them!!!

Christine
