Wow! Just got back from a couple of fun filled days in Chicago. Last night we saw Wicked at the Ford Theatre. I had extremely high expectations for this show and they were truly met! It was phenomenal! Even my DH thought it was amazing as well as my dd11 and ds9. I'd highly recommend it! This morning we saw the King Tut Exhibit at the Field Museum which was also very cool! If any one has any questions about either, I'd be happy to try to answer them.

I am envious.
I saw the King Tut exhibit when it was here in (I think) 1979. It was so wonderful.
Wicked is coming to Minneapolis and I think I missed out and all the tickets are already sold - a good sign that it is a godd show.

glad you had a good time!! i can't wait til my kiddies are old enough to take to the theatre!

Have not seen Wicked yet but will try to get tickets some time in the autumn :maleficen . But I did see the King Tut exhibit while I was visiting in Florida in January and it was very interesting and we enjoyed it for the most part but I have to say we (as well as many other people who were at the museum) all expected to see the tomb of King Tut as the grand finale, but no such luck  . There is no King Tut at the King Tut exhibit :confused3 . I think they should make that more clear before purchasing the tickets. I think we would of gone anyway but it was a little dissapointing. :sad1:

I adore Wicked, but I prefer it on Broadway than the National Tour I saw in Philly.

Regarding King Tut, I know that is coming to Philly next year at the Franklin Institute. So, you really enjoyed it? I'm thinking of seeing it when it comes.

I agree, Wicked on Broadway is well, wicked good. (My Boston area friends tell me to pronounce it wickit good.) I saw it in NYC two weeks ago. I don't think there is a bad seat in the Gershwin theatre.

Great play to bring tween and teen girls, I think. Good relationship up and down story between Glinda and Elphaba. The two lead actresses, Eden Espinosa and Kate Reinders were very strong. I was a little disappointed that Carol Kane was replaced by Jan Neuberger in the role of Madame Morrible, but Neuberger was also very strong. The only actor that seemed a step below the others was the one that played Fiero, the love interest.

Ultimately, what makes this wicked good though are the exceptional lyrics. The sets are intense too.

I want to take my daughters to see it. I am betting it will have a L O N G run on Broadway.

We also saw Lion King and The Drowsy Chaperone on Broadway during our trip. They were all very good, Wicked being my favorite, Drowsy Chaperone my mom's favorite because she could hear the lyrics better (she has trouble with higher pitched voices, and the Chaperone has sort of a narrator who speaks between the musical numbers to set them up.)

And about TUT. . .

I saw him back in the early 80's at NOMA (New Orleans Museum of Art).

Tut sure has been around a long time, hasn't he? :rotfl: :rotfl:

If you click on the Franklin Institute, you can register to get advance notice and first crack at tickets before they go on sale to the general public.

We saw the Tut exhibit in NYC in the 70s. Great exhibit.

I never expected to see the tomb.

Yes, I have to agree with you on this one. I was (as well as my kids) expecting to see the tomb at the end. In fact, we did the audio tour and at the end of the tour/exhibit, there were people collecting our headsets, and I kept walking by them because I expected more, i.e. the Tomb! Oh well, it was still wonderful.

I saw Wicked last week and LOVED it. :maleficen Where did you sit?
We were in row T. Great seats except for the fact we had a couple of tall individuals right in front of us. Just had to crane our necks around quite a bit to see at times. Where did you sit?

How could someone transport a whole tomb? Isn't it huge and made out of rock and also buried underground?

I guess that I'm not understanding what some expected to see. :confused3

Great to know! We will be there in a couple weeks! :Pinkbounc Is it cold in the Gershwin? Trying to decide what to wear.

Glad you enjoyed the Chicago version OP! :)

Well not the whole tomb per se, what I was thinking I'd like to have seen were like his coffins. I guess in his tomb there were three nested coffins, a sarcophagus and three or four shrines that housed his mummy. Evidently they won't relase any of these things from Egypt. We did see some jars ( I can't remember exact name of these jars) that his actual organs were kept in.

I did not find it cold, but hey they were having a heat wave when we were in NY. Being from southe Louisiana, I like my air conditioning. :teeth: I brought a light jacket to the first play (Lion King), did not need it so I dispensed with jackets after that. We saw Wicked at the matinee so it was middle of the day.

We were in row W, orchestra.

The stage props are so big and well lighted and the voices so LOUD, I really don't think you can go wrong wherever you sit.

I like the Gershwin better than the Minskoff where we saw the the Lion King.
More strategically located bathrooms.

There were so many in line at the Minskoff towards the end of intermission, those still in line were told to go back in (including my 76 YO mom). Very rudely too, I might add. My brother (who works in theater in NY) intervened. He was pretty P.O.'d at the dumb dumb who ordered the ladies (and young girls) back to their seats. They were allowed to wait and enter the theatre after all the actors got back on stage (they start the second act with a bunch of the critters walking down the side aisles towards the stage).

Silly complaint I guess. The Lion King was awesome though. The actor who played the adult Simba was the understudy but he sang his heart out. Cute too. Course Scar and Rafiki are the real stars here, along with the amazing masks. Very creative staging.

Thanks Snappy! We are going to an 8pm show. I like AC too, but not freezing. :) We are in the Mezzanine. Will tall people or big heads bother us since we are not on the front row up there?

I was not up there to check out the mezzanine. But I found the rows were designed to go up as they went back if you get me.

I did have someone ask me to sit back, not forward at one of the plays, I think it was the Drowsy Chaperone, I was blocking her view when I leaned forward. So if you are having trouble seeing, don't be shy about asking someone to sit bakc, they'll get it.

Stadium-like seating I guess? I am more worried about DD 11 seeing. The 4 of use can move around so she can have the best view for her at least. :wizard: Thanks for your help!

Is Ana Gasteyer (sp?) still in Chicago? She was in it last year but we saw Lion King that time instead.
