I heard nothing but good about his movie, so with my expectations high, we rented it. This has got to be one of the WORST movies I have ever seen!! And I love dumb movies (Dumb and Dumber, So I Married an Axe Murderer, Friday.....) but I just didn't get it. And that kids voice irritated the crap out of me!! Even my 9 y/o daugher and her two friends thought it was stupid. I am so glad we didn't buy it first!!

We compare it to Office Space which we all really liked, but lots of people we know didn't like. I think its just one of those movies you either love or hate.

Who told you good things about it? I think I've heard 2 people over the age of 17 say they thought it was really good. I thought there were some funny lines, but overall just didn't like it.

I loved Office Space!

One of my HS students said you have to watch twice to appreciate this movie. I was fast forwarding a lot the first (and only) time I watched it. But I'm glad I watched because my students quote it all the time.

ITA ::yes:: I know people that love it. It was horrible, and we go to 2-3 movies a week, so I'm not all that discriminating when it comes to movies.

The first time I watched this movie, I felt the same way....it was late, and I was having trouble staying awake. Watched it again to make sure I'd really seen it.
This movie just has to grow on you.

This is one of those movies which requires watching several times to appreciate. If you've got the DVD, be sure to watch the movie with the comments of the director and actor turned on. Gives you insight into many of the scenes in the movie. One of the scenes I related to was when Napoleon, Pedro, and Deb are at the dance, the scene is shot from behind them as they're watching the other couples dance...and you can see how isolated and out of place they are at the dance.

Also love watching the principal during Summer's dance routine...cracks me up.

Give Napoleon a few more chances before you write him off....and....Vote For Pedro...

I haven't bothered to see it yet because it doesn't look like my kind of humor at all, though I'm sure my DH will love it.

But I'll give it a shot when Netflix sends it to us =)

DH and I both love this movie... but it's not for everyone. it has a kind of off-beat nerdy sort of humor.

It was soooo STUPID but the kids do quote it all the time. A few of them even have the Vote for Pedro shirts.

I've gotta say I like some pretty stupid stuff, but I didn't get that at all. :confused3

I also thought that movie was extrmely dumb and I wouldn't have watched it if it weren't for a few things:
1. The outside exterior of Napoleon Dynamite's house was the house that my neighbor grew up in.
2. That same neighbor dated the director.
3. DH father went to Preston High School.

But I still found that I lost 2 hours of my life that I will never get back.

We love Napoleon here in our household. We had a Napoleon themed Birthday party for our DD. It's true that you have to see it at least twice to actually appreciate the movie.

Here is a pic of Sarah with the cardboard stand-up of Napoleon that I had to make myself because they are nowhere to be found:

It was SO stupid, but for some reason I did like it, in a strange sort of way. I am glad that it was from Netflix. Nothing that I would ever buy and nothing that I would want to pay $ for out of pocket. A very pathetic movie, but my son and I are still quoting it (esp my son...).

We loved LOVED the movie but we're basically nerds at heart and could totally understand where the characters were coming from. :earboy2:

pw2pp, I searched the web for 2 days for a Napoleon stand up because of a post you made asking for info on where you could find one. I see you ended up having to make one.......pretty much what I found out too, that there are NO Napoleon's to be found! :rotfl2:

I was so surprised that they don't make a NP stand-up. :confused3
What I did was to go into the FYE store and bought a Santa Claus cardboard stand-up that was on clearance and then I went to Spencers and bought a Door poster to make my own. It's not quite the same, but the next best thing. :teeth:
We also had posters, buttons (vote for Pedro, Skills, Liger, etc....), T-shirts. :teeth:
I wore a t-shirt with a pic of Kip on it that said "Don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with Babes all day" :teeth:
Oh.... and of course.... we served Tater Tots or "TOTS" as Napoleon calls them.

I hated it too - I found it completely painful to watch. I thought the characters were pathetic, cartoonish loosers. I didn't laugh out loud once.

most of my friends love it.

I usually love off-beat movies.

Me & my bf love Napoleon Dynamite as well. Heh, I think we're nerds at heart too! We may even be the pathetic, cartoonish losers that RadioNate spoke of. How can anyone not laugh when NP is talking about illegal ninja moves? Cracks me up! :rotfl: IMO, it's so lame that it's hilarious. :)
