Just returned from a 3 night stay at the DLH.

I have to say, that this was the most magical Disney trip we've ever had- and we've been to Disney a lot!

Highs
The character interaction was superb. As my son has special needs, we were allowed to wait for the Characters to get back on the Anniversary train, after they did the meet and greet, and DS was able to meet Chip and Dale on his own with his brother, which was amazing. We got some lovely photos.

We also got a personal meeting with Mickey in one of the restaurants, which was brilliant.

The chefs in Inventions took my sons' hats for a game, and gave them a Chef's hat each to take home with them and returned their Mickey hats. The staff were so welcoming.

Our room- 1256 was superb. Spotlessly clean, and it was on a corner, so there was lots of room and it had a kingsize bed, sofa bed and space for a travel cot.

The staff put a Mickey toy for the boys in the room, and a bouquet of roses for me. It was a lovely example of Disney magic.

The park looked clean, shiney and new. Everything I had noticed that was broken on our previous trip had been fixed.

Dreams was magical. I could watch it night after night and not get bored. The story was wonderful and the attention to detail was superb.

Glowtinis in the Fantasia bar in the DLH- I could drink one every evening. A little bit of luxury that added to the Disney magic.

Lows

The toilets in the park were the dirtiest I'd ever seen.

Silver Spur Dreams meal deal was terrible. The service was terrible- one poor waitress having to service over 12 tables. The food was awful, and the priority viewing area wasn't too good. You could get an equally good spot by queueing yourself and not paying the extortionate prices of the special meal.

Having said that ...
THis was by far the most amazing Disney holiday we've ever had, mainly due to the characters and excellent customer service of the park and hotel staff.

I think that after 20 years, the staff have grown up with Disney and have really got the hang of going the extra mile for guests- I found the customer service on the whole to be as good as WDW, with a few exceptions!

Even though it chucked it down with rain every day and we got soaked to the skin, it didn't affect our holiday at all.

I am totally blown away by how fantastic this trip was comapred to our other stay in the DLH and other visits to the park.

If you ever have felt that DLP is the poor relation to WDW (I'm sure most people here have never felt that way!), then take a trip this year and I'm sure you'll revise your opinion. I believe that DLP can hold its head up high as it's just as good in terms of customer service and attention to detail as the bigger parks. Good things come in small packages!

that sounds pretty amazing :cloud9: - really looking forward to seeing a shiny park and Dreams.

Glad you had an amazing trip! Can't wait for ours now!

Awww, it's great to read that you had such a great time. :thumbsup2

Still a shame that the toilets haven't been sorted out, this is the only real negative theme that keeps coming up!

Although I only went in March, I am so looking forward to seeing the shiny new park! :thumbsup2

Oh, sounds magical :lovestruc

I agree about the toilets - the only negative that I can think of. We carry hand sanitiser about now as even the sinks are not very clean, which in itself is bizzare as they should only have soap and water in them :lmao:

Glad you had a great time :goodvibes

Welcome back, glad you had a magical trip:goodvibes

Thanks for the lovely replies. It's nice to be amongst people who understand my Disney obsession!

aliscrapper- it's worth it if you need proximity to the park, for example if you need to get back to your room during the day, but other than that, I'd say Hotel New York has basically the same breakfast and same high standard of facilities, that I feel HNY is better value for money.

The Disneyland hotel is a good hotel, but its not as good as non Disney 4/5* hotels in terms of room size, general upkeep of rooms and hotel facilities.

THis trip was special because the room was brilliant and well worth the money, but we weren't this lucky in our previous stay at the Disneyland Hotel.

This is something I thought after my visit in March 2011 as well. It seemed like the CMs had really gotten into the Disney mood and I was wondering whether this was due to the fact that there now is a generation that grew up with visiting the parks as kids.

Welcome back :wave2: I know you had a disappointing trip last year and I'm so glad that this year the magic was there for you. :wizard: :wizard:

Shame that you thought the Dreams meal deal was a let-down but it's good for the rest of us to hear that.

I love this Forum too for the same reason - nobody ever gets tired of talking Disney!::disrocks:

We've never stayed at the HNY - but we walked thru the reception area and I know DH is keen to stay there; so will just have to see what comes up at what price - so hoping for a flash sale soon!

Wow - sounds like a truly magical trip! I hope ours in August can compare, especially after our wonderful Feb trip!

Sounds amazing - can't wait to be there in four days! Unfortunately not in the DLH though!

sounds like a truly magical trip:goodvibes You said the VIP dreams area isn't great for viewing which is pretty much what we all thought - where would you recommend standing?

Sounds like an amazing trip! :goodvibes

Can I ask what was wrong with the DLH last time you stayed? Was the room a problem? We have stayed twice at the DLH and both times had nice rooms - obviously been lucky.

Agree about Cafe Fantasia on an evening - it's just so relaxing :lovestruc.

Glad to hear you had such nice character interaction for your children with your DS having special needs :goodvibes.

I was so relieved to read this post--when we were there in Nov, 2011, there were several things broken/in need of repair that we noticed (you can't help it with Disney once you've been trained to notice detail, right?). It didn't dampen my excitement a bit, and my DH and I had a ball, but this June I am taking my parents, my in-laws (non-Disney fans :scared1:) and sister, and I really want them to enjoy it, without the chinks in the armour I noticed. This post was a breath of fresh air--so many thank yous for the updated info! :thanks:

Sounds like a truly wonderful trip. The 20th anniversary year has gotten off to a magical start :wizard:
I'm really sorry to hear you didn't enjoy the Dreams meal package, but I am also grateful to hear your feedback as we were planning to book one but probably won't bother now. The consensus seems to be that the viewing area is not VIP enough - could you please explain where it is in relation to the castle?
Many thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, reading your highs made me smile :goodvibes

We had a similar experience recently on our second DLRP visit when we also stayed at the Disneyland Hotel.

Our son also has special needs, what I really liked is how the characters came over to us, it's like they recognised we weren't being pushy -Joshua even had his wheelchair pushed by Dale (or was it Chip!).

I agree about the Disneyland park, it looks fantastic, I was in awe of how Main Street USA looked and we have been to WDW 12 times.

We were lucky in that we had good weather - but I agree with many of your comments.

Need to do my trip report though!
