Just returned from the Poly

Glad to hear they are finally addressing this issue. How big of a problem is this at other WDW resort pools? We'll be staying at the POR resort in January and wondering if this is being implemented throughout WDW. I hope so.

Don't worry about POR...The problem with the Poly is that the pool is right in view of the MK day guests who travel from the TTC by monorail or boat...and the Poly restaurants are also very popular with day and on-site guests alike. And that pool and beach can't help it...they look sooooo inviting, and are also very easily accessible by monorail or boat from MK. So tons of people who just drop by and use the pool. The Poly specifically really lends itself to "pool hopping." Not so with almost any other resort.

Enjoy POR! It's a great choice because it has multiple pools to choose from, PLUS another "feature" pool at POFQ that you are allowed to use.

We had a great trip as usual but more so since they started using wristbands at the pool. There was always a seat to be had there now that only Poly guests and DVC are allowed in. As soon as we went to the pool a Rec CM came over asking to see our room cards which we happily obliged. We were given wrist bands to wear. We made sure to tell him and every other hotel staff how wonderful the bands were. The Rec CM told me that on July 4th over 350 people were asked to leave for not being Poly guests. Wow! He also said they were getting maybe 100 a day trying to come in but has finally slacked off to maybe 20 or so. The Rec CMs are really doing a great job and we were thankful to not have to be crammed into the pool. For once, I could see that the pool really is a nice size for the resort and not overcrowded as in the past.

Housekeeping was great, as were everything else at the Poly. We will miss it but taking a break for a couple of years to cruise instead. Hope everyone enjoys their future Poly trips!

Glad to hear they are finally addressing this problem. While I love the Poly and we have stayed their twice. Both times I questioned whether all the people at the pool were really staying there. At times the pool was so crowded and you were lucky to get a chair to sit on. You know when it's a low attendance time and the pools mobbed something is right.

I can't believe that it took WDW almost forty years to realize it could no longer handle day visitor traffic at its most popular MK resort.

We were at the Poly in July as well. We enjoyed the pool very much - now that we could get in it! Not only were the wrist bands a great idea - the CM's were really cool about it!

Well, technically they still allow day visitor traffic. Day visitors can still eat at any of the restaurants, and they could walk the grounds and the beach. They just aren't welcome to use the pool.

I'm also glad they are doing this now. Our previous trip to the POLY in August didn't seem overly crowded as far as the pool went, but I remember the frustration at not being able to have a chair to sit on or put our towels on with 2 kids in tow. I actually sat on the pavement by the zero entry end until a chair became available. Looking forward to sharing the pool with just my fellow Poly peeps and any DVC'ers that come over. :goodvibes

Thank you for the report! So glad to hear the use of wristbands is still in place and the word seems to be getting out. I've never understood why anyone would go to another hotel/resort to swim because it seems like a pain to me. As someone who enjoys staying at the Poly, it is very irritating to try to enjoy your own resort pool when there are lots of people there who don't pay to stay at that hotel. I will be there in October and while I don't know if that is a popular pool-hopping time, you bet I will ask them to use wristbands if they aren't and the pool is crowded.

That's great to hear! We're planning our very first Disney vacation next year at the Poly and I was definitely concerned about this!

We usually stay at BCV and have never minded "proving" that we are staying there when entering SAB. I'm happy to show my resort ID & DVC member card when asked.
I will admit that as long as DVC members have pool hopping privileges I will want to "visit" other pools if it fits into our touring plans. Have done this at BW for an afternoon dip for our DS and it was just what he needed on a hot day. Likewise, a quick stopover at WL to cool off mid day from MK works great, too. Can't wait to enjoy this perk after dinner at O'hana next March!

WooHoo!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

So happy to hear this & it's about time. We always do split stays with cash & points. Honestly, it's what's been keeping us away from the Poly for the last few years. Glad I can get it back in the rotation.
