Just got back from a great stay at the Poly. Stayed in Samoa room 1605 from July 1st to the 6th. Requested 1st or 3rd floor near the volcano pool. Perfect location for us! We had a great stay! We are planning on going back again. Not sure when but in a year or so. Loved being able to see the fireworks on the 4th of July from the beach. It's such a great family resort!
Any questions? Fire away!

I am so glad you had a great vacation!! We are going to Poly in Dec and was wondering if you took magic express and if so how long did it take to get to Poly. Also did you have any trouble getting to Animal K or MGM with the bus service? Also did you eat at Capt cooks for breakfast, what did they have??

Thanks for any info;) ;)

We didn't take Magical Express in only on the way back due to staying offsite for a few days before. I did take Magical Express when we went to POFQ in November and would do it again. We did take it home from the Poly. The way home it wan't long at all. We just stopped at the GF and then on to the airport.
We only didn't take the busses. The parks were so busy this week with the 4th of July that we only did the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. It was also very hot. We would go to a park in the morning and then most days come back and swim. We would then go to dinner and either go back to a park or swim and watch the Electric Boat Parade and fireworks from the beach.
We did eat breakfast and lunch at Caprtain Cooks. For breakfast ,I loved the Tonga Toast. My husband and dd and the eggs. They also had Micky Waffles. For lunch I loved their salad. I think it might have been called the Island Salad. My husband and dd enjoyed the noodles. I didn't care for the adult grilled cheese. I really was looking forward to it but I just didn't care for it at all.
We ate dinner last night at 'Ohana. It was our favorite in November and our favorite again. The kids had a ball and we all enjoyed the food.

Any other questions let me know.

Glad you had a great time. We're going to the Poly in October and I was wondering how well stocked is Samoa Snacks or Captain Cook's for milk, bread, fruit, etc. We want to purchase some breakfast foods/snacks for our room and am wondering if we should depend on the Poly store or perhaps place an order w/Garden Grocer. Thanks for any info.

I'm also curious about the bus situation that lovemesomedisney asked about.

I thought of some more questions: Did you use the laundry room? Was it busy most of the time? Also did you use the laundry service offered by the resort? Curious as to how expensive this is? Thanks again for any info.

We are going in October and we are going to use GardenGrocer. For the prices that Disney charges for staple items, like you listed, you would most likely save some money ordering through GardenGrocer.

When we used them last year at CBR, we were not in our room when they came, but I had pre-arranged the tip, so it was no big deal. The items were stored by bell services. We had room temp, fridge, and frozen items and it was all kept at the right temps. The produce we ordered was beautiful....much nicer than my local grocery. One quick call to bell services and the stuff was in our room in minutes. The service we received from GardenGrocer and bell services at CBR was perfect. Maggie

We'll be at the Polynesian on Sunday!

I was wondering if you happened to notice what design was on the refillable mugs and if they had the mugs that fit into cup holders.

Thanks!!!

We stayed at poly last fall and are going again this october as long as we don't have to downgrade because of finances. I need how you liked the POFQ compared to Poly, since you stayed there last time? Would you be really dissapointed staying there after staying at the Poly? Thanks.

I'm not much of a help here. Didn't need to use the laundry but they do have it. You can do your own or send it out. I saw the prices for sending out but can't recall the exact amounts. It seemed very high.

They did have some fruit, milk.. but seemed more like if you want a snack. If you wanted a larger quantity then the Grocer might be the way to go.

The mugs were the smaller ones that would fit in cup holders not the larger type I've seen around. The say 2007 on them. I was told we can use them trip after trip. I saw peoplewith ones from different hotels from the past as well as older Poly ones.

Thanks for the info. We actually placed an order w/Garden Grocer for our May trip (1 bedroom villa at VWL) which we ended up cancelling due to DD4 being sick. We rescheduled our delivery for this September/October vacation but thats when we booked OKW 1 bedroom villa so the grocery list remained the same. We switched to the Poly so I'll definitely need to downsize our grocery list. Not sure how GG will handle this as I've already paid for our May delivery. I was just going to cancel the whole delivery but maybe I'll just downsize our list.

We're having Garden Grocer deliver breakfast stuff on Sunday. The Polynesian does not sell 1/2 gallons of milk or anything like they sell at WL or other resorts.

We are planning on having breakfast in our room every morning. So this is worth it for us. Just over $100 for breakfast for 8 people every day of the trip.

We loved POFQ in November. It was very pretty and compact. Compact was important to us. We felt the busses were great.
This stay were were going to stay at CSR but the day before our final payment was due my dh agreed we should go to the Poly. We wanted the monorail with the week of the 4th of July. We were very happy we decided to stay at the Poly. I've read people saying once you stay deluxe it's hard to go back. I now see why.
To be honestly yes, I would be dissapointed staying at POFQ after staying at the Poly. The monorail, pool, beach resort feel was so amazing to us. There is nothing wrong with POFQ. We liked it a lot but you are comparing a deluxe to a moderate. You will still like POFQ but not as much as the Poly.

This is what we'd like to do & having breakfast in the room is so much easier & faster. I didn't realize the Poly didn't have 1/2 gal milk - thats not good! I would think that would be an ideal size for the fridge. Thanks for the heads up. I'll definitely keep our order w/Garden Grocer but I'll need to take off a bunch of things as we won't have a full kitchen as we would have at OKW. Thanks again.

Hi, thanks for sharing your info!!!!!!!!!!!!. We have never stayed at the Poly before and have been trying to find a deluxe that would be fun for the kids and also a little economical. We have stayed at AKL and it being our first time ever in a DR we want to try and stay in a place just as fun and exciting for the whole family. Can you tell me which longhouse you recommend - one close to the monorail and food but without a parking lot view? Do they have a lot of activities for kids? How can we save $$ on a good room?
I know a lot of questions, but I really appreciate this DIS information website!!
It helps a lot!!

We stayed in Samoa on the valcano pool side. We paid for a garden view (the cheapest) and it was great. We could sit on our patio and see the pool. It was a very short walk to most everything. The longest walk would be to the Ticket and Trans. center but that only took about 5 minutes even with my slow 5 year old. Captin Cooks was very close for refilling our mugs. The pool and beach were steps away. It was amazing.
They had so much for the kids. The pool is fun. They also have a fun place next to the pool that shoots water out. In the afternoons they had crafts for the kids, dressed they up in grass skirts and played music and danced and even bingo. We had a ball!

WOW! looks like there is a lot to do :cool1: I love the grass skirt idea, great for my dd6. I am also looking for a garden standard room! Do you have to make a request to stay in Samoa. If so, how do you request politely without being pushy. I have never requested and don't want to seem annoying. I would love to stay at a DR close to MK!!

My agent did it for me. I asked for close to the volcano pool on the first or thrid floor. I was so happy when we arrived and saw our location. Teh fiorst floor was fun for the kids. They walked right out of the room to the pool. They also had a yard for playing.
You could call and just ask for Samoa on the volcano pool side.

I am one to complain about noise and I was worried about it. The traffic wasn't too bad. It was a little noisey but I fell right to sleep. The sliders kept a lot of the noise out. I also was there at a very busy poot time. I would take the noise level for the location. It was amazing! Just walk out to the pool if on the first floor. The beach is right there too for the fire works.
We didn't use the busses. We only did MK and Epcot.
Don;t worry about the questions. I'm happy to help! Everyone has helped me with my two trips. That's what these boards are for. So, ask away. PM me if you'd like.

Thank you I just might (PM)! Since I want to book in Nov. 2008, I may have to wait till the new rates start in Jan. 2008. Not sure!
:thanks:
