We were able to score a last minute booking before all our points expired this year. Overall, we were very pleased with SSR. At first my 7 yr old daughter missed the excitement of our home resort BWV but after the first trip to the pool she never once complained. The rooms were nice as expected, although the sleeper couch was uncomfortable to even sit on. I had to put a pillow under me to keep from sinking into the couch. The bed was comfy even with my bad back.

Our biggest complaint about the resort was the line at Artist Palette during breakfast. The logistics and line was pathetic on the Saturday morning after Thanksgiving. We wound up scoring some frozen waffles, english muffins, some peanut butter, OJ and milk. Grabbed a handful of individual butter, syrup, jellies, sugar, etc from the condiments area and it really made our experience much better. This trip we never did any other food shopping since were only spent 5 nights with very busy days. We did grab some late night dinner at the Artist Palette. Flatbreads left a lot to be desired for, but the salads were great! Otherwise, all our meals were at the parks.

When we were flying home I asked my girl what her favorite part of the trip was and she said it was the pool. Coming from a kid that for the first time enjoyed Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain RR, Test Track, etc. I was surprised. But alas, I forgot just how much fun it is to swim at 10pm at night. :goodvibes An unexpected highlight to the trip was wandering in MGM at the last minute to unexpectedly catching the High School Musical show. My daughter was all smiles and sung each word to every song. Even got pulled up to do some dancing. :cheer2:

Like OKW one of my favorite things about this resort is the ability to drive up to your unit. Unlike OKW you don't have to hike up multiple flights of steps after a long day at the parks. :thumbsup2

In the future I could definitely see spending time here with the kids and with just the Mrs. Next on our list is AKV.

Leaving tomorrow from SSR after a 10 day trip. It was our first visit to SSR and we were very pleased. SSR is a great resort! We stayed in the Springs area and it worked out perfect for us. The one thing I would say is if you are going to stay at SSR figure out what you want to do on your stay and then decide what area of SSR you want to stay in. SSR is a big resort but you can make it work for you if you put some time into figuring out what your routine will be. If you like DTD then stay in the Carousel area. If you want to be near the main pool and dining area then look to the Springs or Grandstrand area.

The only downside SSR has is its limited dining options on the resort. For such a large resort I thought it would have better counter service options available.

Overall we thought the resort was great and will absolutely stay here again.

I am sooooo sad that tomorrow morning we will be leaving after waiting sooooo long to arrive. :sad2: Already trying to plan our next trip (or next purchase of points):rolleyes1

I have to say I don't get what people see in the flatbread pizzas. They often get high praise on the boards, but our last trip my sister and bro-in-law were starving, got a couple of the "pizzas" and what I saw was sauce and cheese on a cracker. Now I could be a pizza snob being from Chicago, but I don't see how those can qualify.

They are toppings on crackers, for sure. I tried the veggie which was ok. The plain cheese was horrendous.

I am truly a pizza aficionado so I'm sure it's jaded my perception. I wouldn't even call their flatbreads a pizza. (neither do they) They've got a nice oven there, it's a pity they don't use a good dough and a tasty sauce. For onsite DVC pizza we prefer Spoodles.

Glad you enjoyed SSR and had a good trip!

How are the Christmas decorations at SSR? We will be "going home" next year for Christmas and are wondering if they decorate much or just have a tree in the lobby.

Being from Chicago, I am not sure you are qualified to judge what a pizza is. :goodvibes

Let's not even talk about California "Style". That term is synonymous with, "What is it that should really go on a pizza????"

Just kidding all.

We are from Connecticut, where even NY'ers try to copy Peppe's and Sally's Pizza from New Haven. Again just kidding with you all, equal opportunity digs going in.

Let the lambasting begin. :scared:

I didn't pay much attention to the Xmas decorations. Perhaps my wife remembers. It just seemed like a lot of red and green. :santa:

hey, I've got a few SSR holiday photos - sounds like we were there around the same time. :) The pool was so nice and warm - we loved it too. :goodvibes

Sorry this is all I have. There were swags as well, I believe, out in the covered entryway, but I don't have pictures.

Thanks Corrina for posting the photos! This Christmas isn't even here yet and I can't wait for next Christmas because we'll be at SSR

Thanks! Great pictures :thumbsup2 It looks like they decorate very nicely! Do you know if they were selling the multicolored tress you have pictured in the picture of the shopping area at Artist's Palette or were those just more decorations? They look like something I would buy to decorate our villa and then bring home as a souvenier!

I love the pictures, too. SSR is our home resort and we were supposed to be there is past week but we had to cancel. DH & I have been depressed all week.:sad1: Here's to 2008! Thanks for the pictures! We sure missed it!

We returned Nov. 27th from a 10 day trip that include our last 3 at SSR. The first part of our trip was at BWV. We used SSR as a more relaxed part of our trip and not so heavy with the parks, although we did end up going on two mornings/early afternoons.

Anyway my 7yo DD proclaimed SSR to be the BEST resort!! What did she love so much? The Grandstand's water splash area that was horse themed!!! We were in the 1800's building right outside this pool. Both kids could not get enough of this pool area. I really liked our location, not only we were the building that faced the Grandstand pool area, but we were a very short walk to the main area of Artist's Pallette, Turf Club and the main pool. DD also is really into horses and riding so SSR's theme appealed to her a bunch. She wants to come here next year for the whole 10 days, however although SSR grew on us, we prefer to be closer to a park resort such as BWV etc.

Some of my peeves about the SSR unit itself was the lack of storage space. I'm one of those people who like to "move in" and not see my suitcases while I am living there. I could just not do that at SSR b/c the walk-in closet was much to small and the unit did not have a coat closet. We had just come from BWV that has a front coat closet that stores the vacuum, highchair, pack n play plus room for your stuff and coats. SSR does not have that and they put everything into the walk-in. At BWV I can put my suitcases away in that walk-in plus lay out all of our shoes and close the door! The same with the bathroom vanity I like my BWV unit that I can put all of my toiletries in drawers and nothing is out showing unlike the SSR unit. I got used to it, but was disappointed at first. Also I did not seem to have enough drawer space for all of our clothes. They were the same number of clothes that I had at BWV and had stored without a problem and without being squished in the drawers! Now I did think the decor was very pretty and nice furnishings!

We also weren't impressed with the set-up of community hall. We take afternoon breaks and DH likes to play with the kids there. He loves the one at BWV with the Nintendo Game Cubes. At SSR they have only ONE Playstation controller b/c the others have been stolen! It seemed odd that SSR did not have the same set-up with the encased game systems that BWV had. The actual game room with playstations and ping pong table seemed tight and got a little out of control one afternoon among several tween age brothers. Again not a big thing, but just something that was a little disappointing.

The boat ride to DTD was fun and DD and I even did some mother/daughter shopping which she adored. :)

We only went to Artist's Palette once and had a good experience. We got sandwiches which were tasty. However the place seemed small for all the number of villas that were at SSR. We went at a very off time so we did not have trouble getting a table and just a short line for ordering. However I cannot imagine it in the mornings or prime dinner time.

Glad you had a great trip....

As for the flatbreads.....I liked em.....I'm from NY....so I didn't even
bother with the cheese one.....

they had specials everyday....I usually had that.....different types....
ie..chicken bbq.......sausage and peppers...etc....spicy shrimp...
Kerri
edit.....only pizza in WDW that tastes a little like pizza is.....Wolfgang pucks...IMO

We just got home yesterday too! (after driving on Sat. afternoon and Sunday) We were at OKW for 3 nights (starting T-giving night) and then at SSR for 6 more nights. We love SSR (one of our home resorts!) We took my in laws along for the first time and they were so impressed. We had terrific help from the cast members from the time we arrived until the time we left. At first they put us in a HA room - not needed or requested, that is just where the put us - so we called and asked if we could be changed to a reg 2 br - no problem! We ended up in 9645 and 9647 (two bedroom lockoff) and it was PERFECT! Very quiet - overlooked the golf course, which DH was thrilled about!! Later in the week we needed to switch around some dining reservations and the sweet lady at the conc. desk could not have been more helpful - including printing out all of our dining reservations for this trip and an upcoming "mommy and daddy only" trip in Feb (to AKV). As for the flatbreads - I love 'em! The lines were a little long at Artitst Pallette - we got sandwiches to go on the day we left and the line was a little long - but boy was it worth it when we were a couple hours down the road and still had a little taste of "disney magic" (including our 2 boys getting to eat their lunches out of those mickey shaped ear plates!)

One thing I would HIGHLY recommend if anyone is headed to Epcot in the next couple of weeks - the Candlelight processional was out of this world. I mean it blew us away - the music was FANTASTIC - and to top it off we got to see Santa right afterwards at the American Pavillion. I actually told my husband that I was okay that we were leaving the next day to come home - because it put me so in the mood for Christmas!

Anyway - to those of you who were at SSR at the same time - hope you had safe travels home! And to all of you Merry Christmas!!

Dh and I did a getaway last year to SSR- it was just the 2 of us. I think it is a great choice for an adults trip- the close proximately to DTD, the great spa, and the quick bus hub to other resorts for dinner makes it a great choice for a grown-ups trip.

I am glad you had a nice trip-
Thanks Corrinak for those beautiful photos!

I had a flat bread special last year at SSR. I was steak, sauce and arugula. It was awesome!!!:cheer2:

I went to SSR this past Halloween and the next trip we go on is in December and we can't wait. We are stayin at SSR for the December trip and we love it there (especially my step-mom because she LOVES gardens and flowers). We always have a good time at SSR. But our next trip after December is, I think, next Halloween. When we go at that time we are staying at AKV concierge level (I think thats how its spelled). But my family and I are excited because this will be our first time in the concierge level and our first time in AKV.

CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!! :cool1:

I think they were decorations....but who knows? For the right price I'll bet Disney will sell you anything! ;)
