DH and I drove from HHead Island to OKW on Sunday for a two-night stay. It is our home resort since 1993, and we've stayed there more times than I can count. But, we hadn't been to WDW for 2 years (sad, but true), and after reading some trip reports here, I was a bit concerned about a decline in the resort. Happily, we didn't see a decline. Check in was quick and efficient. We arrived at 2:30, and our room was ready. We stayed in a one bedroom (3121); it was in great shape. We found no cleanliness issues. Every thing worked. We were missing a spatula to remove the frozen pizza from the oven, but, hey, we managed! Oh, and we weren't bothered by the firmness of the mattress.

I just wanted to reassure some of you with upcoming trips that all is not lost at OKW.

Oh, I had my first Dole Whip! Now I know what you all are talking about! :thumbsup2

And I predict that your post will not linger ...... we seem to prefer a bit of controversy ;)

I've had more than 30 OKW stays since I joined 15 years ago and have NEVER had a poor one. Yes I've waited for the occasional bus more than I would like and yes I have some preferred locations which I don't always get. I even once had a wooden blind that was broken and a comforter with a hole in it! Both were taken care of very quickly.

There are only 2 conclusions that some would come to: either I've been very lucky or my standards are way below theirs :)

My only real gripe is when I stay in a studio on the first floor they are often quite dark and I just think that management should ensure that either front OR back of a villa is clear of foliage. And yes, I do mention it when it happens and no, it isn't a big deal.

We also like the firm mattresses :thumbsup2 ..... and Dole Whips!

We just came back last week from our first stay at OKW and I have to say it is tough to type while keeping my fingers crossed that we can return there again next year. We will book our home resort BLT but hope we can change it to OKW at the 7 month mark.

I had read all of the various reports of the things that some find less than appealing with OKW but my DH, DD, Mom, brother, SIL, DNiece and I all loved it there. As I mentioned in another post my in-laws and SIL, plus 2 other families we are all friends with stopped by to check it out (they all own at SSR.) They were impressed and are considering staying at OKW next year too. All I can say is if they all get the 2 bedroom units and we don't I will be very upset since we found it first ;)

Glad you enjoyed your visit to OKW. We just returned last week as well and had an amazing time at OKW. Our unit was spotless and the bed was fine. This was our first trip to OKW since 2000 - we will definitely want to return again much sooner! The staff were the absolute best we've ever encountered in all of our trips to WDW.

Yay :yay: We really  our OKW home and it's soooo nice to hear

more on the positives ! Our past couple of trips have been at other DVCs but

we're really missing OKW & will most likely return to our official home next trip.

Glad everyone here enjoyed their recent OKW stays & took the time

to let us know :goodvibes

Last January was our first stay in a DVC unit. It was because of our stay at OKW that we were inspired to look into DVC. And we just joined last night!!!

LOVE OKW

Oh, and the mattresses were extremely comfortable - much more so than my mattress at home ;)

:thumbsup2 Thanks for the news, love OKW, it's our favorite resort and the reason I bought into DVC. Going to Disney in Feb :woohoo:, sadly no room at OKW @ the 4 1/2 month mark :sad1:, Oh well, staying at SSR :)

Yep, we just returned from another splendid OKW trip as well! Our room was in good shape and very clean even though we were in one of the very oldest buildings (14). The only thing that was a disappointment to me was the sparse decorations. That wasn't just at OKW though. We felt most of the holiday decor was sparse at all the resorts and parks this time around. They did add a few more poinsettia trees at Epcot the last day, but I really missed the lights of winter and a few other things that were normally there. We also felt there was very little in the way of special holiday entertainment this time as compared to past years.

Congratulations to you! And, Welcome Home! :yay:

I love it there too, and in fact really like ALL of the DVC resorts. OKW is really roomy and I love the big porches. We always go to Olivia's when we stay there.

I had my first stay at OKW about 2 weeks ago. It was much better than I expected, based on everyone's reports on here. I think a lot of people on here give it a bad reputation.

The one bedroom was huge, and the lack of an entrance in to the bathroom in the living room wasn't as big of an issue as I expected. We had a great location, the buses were quick, and the room was in good shape for how long it's been since the last refurb.

Your saying what I want to hear! Can't wait til we're there beginning this Sunday!!:cheer2::yay::cool1::dancer:party::jumping1:

I can honestly say that if it were not for OKW, we would not own DVC. We don't care about staying anywhere else on property.

I've stayed at OKW several times in 1 and 2br villas and never really had an issue. I would prefer a softer mattress, but that's not a biggie in my opinion. Even when we stayed away from the HH area, it wasn't more than a 10 minute walk to there. The only gripe is the lack of CS and TS- it tends to get old after a couple of times with the grandkids, but that is also not a big deal. I wouldn't hesitate to book OKW at the 7 month mark if I want a more laid-back trip.
