This was our first DVC trip and we really enjoyed SSR. We were in room 2625, water view, DTD view, no noise, could see the fireworks-Marketplace walkway open (takes 10 minutes to walk to DTD), and bus service was really good. The CMs were more than helpful, in fact, out of their way helpful! We were "welcomed" at least 4 times before we made it to the front desk. Plenty of construction, but nothing that gets in your way. As many have stated Artists Palette does have a small menu; however, we did eat a quick lunch there and what we had was above average. I hope that in the future they take the "coaching" relative to menu expansion. The pools were really nice. I think there is a lot of potential available for this resort and I am anxious to see what develops.

Thanks for the report. I agree. The resort is really nice and the potential is really huge. Glad you enjoyed it so much.

We are going in August, can you tell me what community Hall is like? My DD11 usually likes to go to the CH to meet other Kids and take part in Activities. She particularly likes the one at Boardwalk.

Did you request a particular room? Can you recommend one thats close to the main pool and the main building?

Thanks in advance.

We visited the CH even though our DS is 17 and we just wanted to look. We were there late in the afternoon-there was a ping-pong table, playstation and TV, puzzles, games and some organized crafts being completed. There were 2 CMS overseeing the action, and they were more than helpful.

The only request that we made was for non-smoking. When we checked in, the CM took a lot of time with us and basically let us choose what room we wanted. The one we took that had the great view was a handicapped room, but was not being used for 2 weeks. Currently, the buildings that are open are all in Congress Park and are a few minutes walk to the main pool. (Nothing too concerning-the quiet pool is closer) There are 3 bus stops (right now) and Congress Park was stop #2.

Thanks for the report! Cant wait to see it for myself in a few weeks!

Hi,

Thanks for sharing!!! Glad you had a great time!

By the way, one of the CMs said that in one more week they had all of the reservations that they could accept. Every available room was booked! Don't know if that was just for that week, but it looks like they are "a-coming!" Also, DH took advantage of the fitness center every day-like walking at WDW isn't enough exercise. He totally enjoyed the facilities.

Don't know if that was just for that week

of course it was just for that week. it's summer, people are taking their summer vacations, clearly things are going to get crowded.

there is plenty of availability at SSR and will be for quite some time.

we had about 40 banked points that we had to use by March 1. figured we could take a quick weekend break down to FL in the middle of winter to warm up a bit. got reservations at SSR for a Friday/Saturday/Sunday in January without any difficulty whatsoever - and they said there was plenty of availability.

I guess the reason the CMs comment stuck in my mind was that I had read several messages on the boards about SSR appearing somewhat "deserted." When we first checked in it did seem that there were not many people around. However, that changed throughout our stay.

We visited on our way out of town last Saturday (July 10th) in the afternoon. It did seem deserted but with a few years of growth on the landscapping and trees it should be a nice place in the vein of OKW. The rooms seem more BCV though. The common area is nice and spacious but is obviously a bunch of recycled buildings. There are going to be some lengthy walks to the main pool from some of the buildings still under construction. My comment to my DW was that it will be a great non-summer, low park attendence place to stay (as we use OKW now). We own at BCV which is great when we want to hit the parks. I love the completely different 'feel' to each DVC resort...it is one of the best things about DVC membership.

I just returned from SSR and it is beautiful! The furnishings are very rich-looking and the decor was done in very good taste.

I found this resort to be very similar to OKW's layout. Many different buildings spread out throughout, many bus stops, and pools and one main pool. It did appear a bit deserted, but it is all so new and smelled new and looked perfect. The CMs were all very accommodating!!! One time they even gave us a ride on their golf cart to the main pool--it was so hot and none of us were sure we could the walk.

Other OKW similarities:

- on the same street (disney vacation club way)
- on a golf course
- OKW started the first 50 year DVC membership
- SSR started another 50 year DVC membership
- similar layout
- wasn't previously a hotel that became part of DVC as BCV, VWL, etc

Thanks for the info!

I'm embarrassed to admit that I didn't even know that SSR had a game room or an ice cream parlor--and we own there!!

I really should read my guidebook!

I agree that SSR will be a wonderful place!

There is so much to do there and when our boys are older, SSR will be at the top of our list! It is definitely a destination resort.

My guide did say that Artist P's menu will be expanded once the other bldg's are open and I also agree that what they did offer, was very good.
