A few background facts:

--This trip was my dd's high school graduation present. The friend (Friend A) she had initially invited was not allowed to go unless an adult went. Well, alright, I guess if I really HAVE to I can tag along. ;)

--Friend A and dd have a falling out and even though plane tickets are already bought, opts out of the trip. This proves to be a blessing in disguise. DD now needs to invite someone else with the trip only 2 weeks away. Friend B steps in. I tell dd that since Friend A is no longer going that I really don't have to go with them. She insists I still come so ....alright twist my arm. :sunny:

--We are DVC owners and will be staying at BWV for the first time.

--We are on the Disney Dining Plan.

--We usually fly out of NYC but decide to fly out of Hartford this time.

--When we left Connecticut, it was approaching 100 degrees for the past week. We were actually looking forward to going to FL where it was cooler. :teeth:

--This is the longest I have ever been away without DH and DS. He is the chief navigator and I am usually just a tag-alonger. The prospect of having to find our way around with myself at the helm is actually laughable. We somehow managed, though. :thumbsup2

My observations:

BDL is sooooo much better to fly in and out of rather than the NY airports. This will be our "home" airport from now on. Leaving MCO on our return home went much easier and quicker than I had thought. The BWV sent us a letter the previous day telling us not to put certain items in our carry-ons, etc. They were never even checked at the airport, however.

BDL rating = A

Magical Express was AWESOME! Since all of us were directionally/geographically challenged, just navigating the airport was a bit daunting. When we got off the plane at MCO, however, and before I even had a chance to ask for directions, there was a rep holding a ME sign directing us where to go. We felt very special. :goodvibes (even though our names weren't on there). Disney has its own counter similar to an airline counter for Magical Express. Very impressive. We checked in without a hitch and were directed to go right across the hall to the line for buses. We boarded our bus instantly and were on our way within a few minutes. I absolutely LOVED the idea of not having to drag our luggage around. I think this service is fabulous! We watched the Disney propaganda film on the way and got totally psyched for our arrival. After going to dinner at Ohana (an adventure of its own!) our luggage was waiting for us on our return to the villa. Yeah! For the return trip, we checked it right at the BWV and they printed our boarding passes right then and there. Way cool :thumbsup2 Never touched our luggage until we got to Hartford.

Magical Express rating = A+

The Boardwalk Villas are beautiful and the location can't be beat. I booked a standard view as I didn't want to spend the extra points on a preferred view. Our room location, however, left a lot to be desired but in the end was really not bad at all. We were in room 1121 which was at the far end in the rear of the BWV. It was a loooooong walk to the elevators, but very, very close to the bus stop and literally right outside our door to the quiet pool. Our room was in good condition except for some missing tiles on the outside of the shower. No biggie. It took us awhile to get acclimated (remember we are all directionally challenged) and actually took the elevator up to the lobby, then down to the boardwalk a couple of times before we realized how ridiculous that was. :rotfl: By the end of the trip, we mastered the BWV! (literally the last day ;) ) The only thing I found lacking at BWV was its lack of counter service restaurants. Besides Spoodles pizza window (eh), a hot dog cart and the Boardwalk Bakery, there was nothing else. Having said that, however, the sandwiches at the BB were very good. The proximity to Epcot and MGM is unbeatable and we walked to Epcot several times and I ended up spending much more time there than I normally would have because of the ease of getting there. The pools were nice but we actually ended up spending some time at the Swan/Dolphin pools because they're so much nicer and bigger with less little kids running around. Staff was generally helpful but not overly friendly with the exception of some of the cast members in the shops who were very, very nice.

Boardwalk Villas rating = A-

(continued tomorrow) :wizard:

I totally agree with you about counter service restaurants. We stayed at BWV in July and woke up late one morning. Spoodles was through serving breakfast but wouldn't start serving lunch for another 30 minutes. We were all starving by the time we arrived at MGM. What we wouldn't have done for a counter service restaurant in the area!

Thansk for the info TimeforMe - we are going to BWV and using ME in a few weeks....

Crowds: It *seemed* to be crowded however we really didn't have to wait a long time for the rides. The exception to this was Soarin', Expedition Everest and Rockin Rollercoaster. We did use fastpass for Soarin' and EE. We stuck out the wait for RR but when we were exiting the line was considerably shorter. Bad timing. We never had a problem eating where we wanted but I did make ADRs for the restaurants that we knew we really wanted to eat at. We were able to get good viewing spots for Wishes and SpectroMagic just by accident. For both events we were coming out of dinner or a ride and :wizard: there they were. DD and friend waited on line for Fantasmic and I met them there. When I arrived (about 15 minutes before the show) there were still seats to be had. This was the 10:30 show. One thing that I have to comment on but let me preface it by saying that I, myself, am not a toothpick and could stand to lose a few pounds. I actually looked forward to the walks around the parks each day to burn off those big meals. I could not believe the amount of people using ECVs (or whatever they're called) seemingly because they just didn't feel like walking. Now before I get flamed, I do realize they may have had some disability of which I was unaware, but the sheer number of overweight people using them tells me otherwise. I also was disheartened to see the number of overweight (obese) children around. I think it's very telling of the american diet and day-to-day living. These kids need to get away from television, junk food, and video games people! :furious: Sorry for the rant. :teeth:

Fast pass use it, it works. Especially for Soarin', Expedition Everest, Test Track and any other new ride I may have forgotten.

New Rides/Attractions: Soarin'--we went on this in California several times last year and this one is identical. Don't miss it! It's awesome. Turtle Talk with Crush--Yes, I did do this and by myself no less. Hey we're all kids at heart at Disney, right? Anyway, it was cute for the kids and I'm glad I did it because we plan to bring my little niece and nephew to WDW soon and I know they'd love it. I did it late at night during EMH and walked right on. I think if I had to wait a long time, however, I may have been disappointed. Expedition Everest: Yikes! I was having second thoughts the whole time about going on this. In April we went to Busch Gardens and my first ride was a rollercoaster which gave me a headache for the rest of the day. My fears were (somewhat) put to rest when one of our ride mates was a 7 year old going on for the second time! She was soooo cute. The ride has great theming and really is a lot of fun. Cinderallabration By the time you've read this, this'll be gone. No loss really. It was cute, sappy and very corny. Plus it was sooo hot standing in the sun to watch it. Did I miss any other rides? I can't remember. :confused3

Soaring rate = A+
Turtle Talk with Crush rating = A- (just because there's usually a long wait for this)
Expedition Everest rating = A (would've been A+ but I am a little chicken)
Cinderallabration rating = B but honestly, who cares?

EMH: I have mixed opinions about this. DD and friend used the morning EMH to MK once and loved it. They got a lot done in a very short amount of time. The evening one, however, didn't seem to work as well--at least in the beginning of the night. The way it works is that after the official closing time of the park you need to have a wristband (offered at several locations throughout the park) in order to ride the rides. I saw many people without them and don't recall anyone checking on many (but not all) of the rides. The crowds were pretty heavy in the beginning of EMH but definitely dissipated later on.

More later--I've got to get some housework done. :wizard:
