The Captain's Grill is absolutely fabulous. We had never been there before but gave it a shot last week. It was one of the best meals that we had during a recent two week stay at WDW. I had the pork and DH had a pasta creation dish and they were just great. I will definately return and feel that it is a hidden treasure for dining. Service was fantastic.

Our second discovery was the Turf Club. Service was outstanding and our meals were wonderful. I had the pork dish (again) with a pasta and three cheese sauce. It was somewhat like a "macaroni and cheese dish" but with a topping that is really good. DH had the Turf Club pasta and he loved it. We started off with mussels and they were the best that we have ever had - the sauce is almost addictive.

I can't believe that we have never visited either of these restaurants on trips before but both of us were very impressed.

That's great to hear we are eating at the Captain's Grille for the first time in Aug. Where is the Turf Club?

Turf Club is at Saratoga Springs. Many consider it a "hidden gem" type place.

I am considering trying out captains grill, do you like Ohana's better?
I ask because I am thinking of changing Ohana's to captains grill. Thanks!

Glad to hear you enjoyed Captains Grille, I plan on making ADR's there for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner during our stay at BC in October. We stayed at YC back in the 90's and went to the former Captains Galley and was hopeing they were still a good place now that it is Captains Grille. Their menu looked good.

Agree. We ate at the captains' grill in September and LOVED IT!!! It was nice and quiet - not very busy but delish!

Breakfast at Capt. Grille was really good last October because they have either the buffet or a menu. I was really wanting to have eggs benedict, and they had it on the buffet, plus some great bread pudding and all the traditional breakfast food! It was all very yummy and a nice quiet way to prepare for the parks.

We have been to the Turf Club several times and love it! You're right, the mussels are excellent! We also had lunch at Captain's Grille in January and enjoyed it.

love the info about turf club since were staying at SSR our next trip in April

We LOVE Turf Club. We eat dinner there every time we stay at SSR. I love the steak and crab meat, delicious! We have always had excellent service and we have eaten there 3 times.

Thanks op for letting everyone in on the secret about this place. :rotfl:

I love the Captains Grill. It has a nice menu with excellent crab cakes and very good steaks. I like this place because it is nice once in awhile to just sit down to a quieter restaurant in WDW without an over-the-top theme. Don't get me wrong, I love WDW themes, it's just nice to get a couple hours break from it and this place delivers with a quiet place, very good food, and excellent service. :thumbsup2

Re: Captain's Grill - When we made our ADRs it was based upon wanting someplace quiet, relaxing and with good food. I was very hesitant but thought they we needed "different" too. We seem to return to the same places every trip. When we arrived I was still a bit concerned because the dining room is very large and there were maybe only five groups there (and this was during President's Week.) It didn't take very long at all to feel that we had made an excellent choice! No, it is not the same as the signature restaurants, but that's not what we were looking for that night.

'Ohana's is a different kind of atmosphere. We love it also! It is louder and a bit more crazy and the menu is set. This is one that we normally we go to, but decided that we wanted quiet and a good meal for that night. Thus, the discovery of Captain's Grill. The comparison would be like apples and oranges.

Thanks for the info- we've never eaten at either but now want to try both after reading this!

I'm so glad to hear captains grille is delicious because we were considering it for our September trip:) very glad to hear this

So glad to read this! We are also going to eat at some new restaurants this year and are specifically looking at some (non-signature) more adult/romantic options. We have ADRs at Turf Club. Based on what I had previously read I am holding on to the idea of Captain's Grill as a back-up plan. It sounds like it would often be available as a walk-up for a party of 2 for dinner (no Free Dining while we are there :sad1:). We have ADRs each night, but just in case we get off-schedule it's good to know that CG would be worth trying for as a walk-up.

Glad to hear about the Captain's Grille. DH and I have a date night planned for there in September!
