Just read this article and pray that it is not true!

Was on Facebook and read on article on Cruise Law News site on Facebook stating that an officer on the Disney Dream hanged themselves. I hope that this is not true, has anyone else heard anything on this incident?

Just one note here. That website/lawyer's whole aim in life is to bring down the cruise industry. I'd take anything he writes with a grain of salt.

Since the Dream's itinerary on Monday departures is Port Canaveral/Nassau/Castaway Cay/sea day/Port Canaveral, it's unlikely that the ship was "last in Castaway Cay" as said in the article. And that they'd back track to PC then head for Nassau.

Not saying it's not true - DCL CMs are people just as anywhere. Just don't trust this particular source.

Thank you, PrincessShmoo! I didn't realize this lawyer was such a dirt bag! Thanks for letting me know, will stop following his Facebook page! I knew I would find correct/honest answers on the Disboard! :-)

His first sentence states he does not have any first hand info, so everything he writes is second or third hand. He writes that DCL hasn't confirmed anything to him. Then count the number of times he uses the word "reportedly" and you will conclude that this is a lawyer asking his readers to provide him any info to him to start suiing.

On the other hand: DCL CM's are just people and a certain percentage of people end their own life. That's just a fact. So sooner or later a suïcide will committed by a CM. Just like accidents happen and medical emergencies happen.
This is nothing to worry about. DCL ships are very safe and well guarded. Just go and enjoy your cruise.

Rule One. As P Shmoo says that is a snake in the grass, I want my site and name in print and I'll say just about anything to do it lawyer.

He is a laughing stock on the forums!

Now that said............there is no news of this I have seen, but that does not mean its 100% totally impossible.

Time will tell

AK

I just found out that it is true, 100% true, that it definitely did happen, 3 days ago! Prayers for the friends that this person had onboard and to the family this crew member has left behind.

Before everyone rushes to judge cruiselawnews.com as "evil" it was listed as #6 of USAToday top ten cruise blogs last year. Like everything else you need to do your own research and read everything carefully. While some may think he is trying to bring down the cruise industry others see him as someone who sheds light on the not so glamorous parts of the industry. While most of the stuff you read about cruises is all roses, like every other business there is a side that the cruise industry doesn't want people to know.

Attacking the source is of no use. Instead, a search of other sources would be the right thing to check out if it's true. Looks like from other posts here it very well may be accurate information. Sorry you were initially put off by some implication that it might not be true because of the source!

If this did happen, prayers for the person and their friends and family. Sadness for whatever may have led to this too.

Holy cow!! I was on that cruise!

On the way to breakfast, there was an announcement asking for someone (I can't remember the name) to contact the bridge immediately. I bet that's what they were referring to:(. So sad!

FWIW our local radio news mentioned a crew member death at Disney's private island and another crew death on an unrelated cruise ship.

edited to add...this is why you should read the whole thread...just saw the multiple articles stating the same thing. They probably even use the same consolidated news wire....

He's a clever marketer. He acts like he cares about something more than money. Having a popular blog means absolutely nothing except for his pocketbook.

There was NO ONE who implied that it wasn't true. Each person responding about the source said that it might very well be true, but that he's a rotten source.

Another article on the incident that basically says the same thing as the ABC News report:

Yes I understand it's true. Very sad, no point shooting the messenger.

Sincere condolences to the family.

Note that the only truth that can be confirmed is that a cast member died. There is no indication, as the site in question mentioned, that it was a result of a hanging. It should also be noted that, even if true, it could have been an accidental hanging. Exceedingly difficult and the result of seriously bad luck, but it can happen.

yup it's true, one of my friends posted about hearing about it, she use to work on the ship with the person.

For me, it's enough to know that someone died. Accidental or done purposely, they're dead, and that's sad.

Yes, it is true that there was a crew member death. The Bahamas is the investigatory authority.

Yes I read that lawyer's blog. No, he is not a shyster. Yes, he does make a specialty of litigation against cruise lines, mostly labor issues cases involving crew members (he doesn't represent passengers much if at all). That's a complicated specialty because of the multi-national nature of the cruise industry. This one lawyer is not going to bring down the industry and he knows it. The news posted is interesting and he's not a rotten source, most everything can be corroborated like this was. Read it, don't read it, it is still your personal decision whether or not to take a cruise.
