Just put our dog to sleep

So very sorry to hear that, Tink, so sad these dasy are. Our dogs, cats and all our pets are so much a part of our families. You rescued her, maybe another, so nice that is. Know well she is romping, having fun, waiting, waiting..........

Just this side of heaven is a place
called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet
goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and
play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and
comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those
who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember
them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss
someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and
looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs
carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you
cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses
rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once
more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never
absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
How sad. I'm so sorry for your loss. :(

I'm so sorry. :( It's horrible losing a pet.

I am so sorry. I know how much our babies mean to us. {{{Hugs}}}

You never get over the loss, you only learn to live without them in your life. It's hard, but what you did was a huge favor for your dog, they can't tell us in words, so you just have to know when it's right. As for another dog now, do what feels right, you will know when the time comes.

We just went through this on June 12, with our 16 yr old mix breed named Sandy. I know how tought a decision it is to make, and how easy it is to second guess the decision after it is has been made.
You really did the best thing for her, I'm certain of that. She knew how much your family loved her and cared for her. It is up to us to let them go when their bodies can no longer function.
Remember the good times you had with her, hold on to that.

So sorry you had to do this. You did the right thing. Hugs to your family

TB - My heart is hurting for you. You did the right thing -- I can't believe a vet would even suggest carrying a dog outside to go the bathroom that is so large. Just know your dog led a well loved doggie life. I once read that dogs are not aware of their own mortality, your doggie will be waiting to greet you some day with his labbie tail a wagging. Prayers to you, I'm crying right now for your furbaby.

Thank you..all of you. The hardest thing right now is just wondering if we did the right thing. Like we should have tried. It would be easier if we "knew" it was the right thing to do. But I don't. I really love the poem Dan Murphy. I read it to DD this morning and we both had a good cry again. I think we are going to pass on the other dog for now. It would be just too hard. Thank you all!

I'm so sorry about your loss. Please realize that in time only good memories will remain and you did the right thing.

:hugs:

From the description of what you wrote, it sounds like you did the right thing. Dogs are smart, and they know when their time is coming. She was probably becoming more and more uncomfortable, and maybe she would be getting upset about going to the bethroom in the house and stuff...I know the few times my dog has done it when he's been sick or something, he so upset even though we never yelled at him.

Think of it as the final act of love oyu can do for a faithful companion....to give her a dignified death surrounded by the people she loves.

My dog is 10, and the day will come when I will have to do the same thing. It's never easy.:(

I'm so sorry for you and your family. Letting a beloved pet go is always so hard. But you did the right thing. Sometimes we forget about 'quality of life'. We know some folks at the moment who should have done what you did but it should have been done a month ago!! Again, I'm so sorry.

I'm so sorry you had to go through this. Not much else I can say, but I think you did the right thing. You gave her a family, a great home, and all the love you had, and she knew that. She'll be in your heart forever. Hugs to you and your family
