And I was SHOCKED at the ticket price. As the prices seemed to just be going up and up, and few seats left on the flight times I needed, I bit the bullet and purchased them. For two of us, one adult and one child, to fly from Ottawa to Orlando with Air Canada, was $1166.40!!! West jet was just a little less, but got me there later than my friend will be arriving. I booked with Expedia.CA and this price was $80.00 less than booking directly with Air Canada.

I had compared costs of driving to Syracuse (air fare from there, plus hotels plus gas, plus food) and decided that the almost $200 I'd save by going that route, was not worth the hassel of doing all that alone (just me and my 7yr old).

Are prices always this much on average for flying from here? I need to think of some other plans for our 2012 trip where my whole family will be travelling instead of just two!! Perhaps drive down again, or at least make that drive to SYR or Albany (for South West).

All depends on when when you're going. I've seen fares from Ottawa for under $300/person including taxes return. We went last October out of Plattsburgh (just south of Montreal) for about $150/person return with taxes included. If you can go during low season, and if you watch for sales and promotions you can save a lot of money.

It's Sept 10th of this year that is our fly day and returning the 18th. Allegiant still has not opened their dates for Sept. I know August is not comparable, but their prices for August aren't very great. The problem for me, is that I'm not flexible with dates and times. The air Canada prices indicate it's a seat sale, but it doen't appear that way to me. I am happy to just have it done with paid for, and I don't need to stress about it any more.

I've only flown out of Ottawa twice before, but that was never me booking it. One was a package vacation deal and done through a TA the other was a Wish trip for my DD and booked by the Wish Foundation through a TA. This has all been a learning experience though :thumbsup2

Sounds a bit pricey for that time of year, but as you said it's done and paid for. I just checked Orbitz.ca and got rates of $490pp but that requires a plane change. But the couple hundred extra is probably worth it for a direct flight.

The August prices have been really high this year. Out of Syracuse you normally can get airfare for about $200 return trip per person when you wait a few months out.

Yes airfare out of Ottawa are often that high.

A/C has a Valentines day special promo code for 20%, booked today for March, and didn't do too bad...some flights were just over $300 taxes in if you were flexible...

Did you check AirTransat or Sunquest? We're flying direct from Montreal to Orlando during March Break and paid 400 each on AirTransat. But I booked 6 months ago. And I waited for JetBlue and Airtran flights out of Syracusse and they were the same price. Not many direct flight deals anymore.

We booked 2 weeks ago for March Break: Ottawa-MCO on United (plane change), 280$ return (tax inc.) on Travelocity. We could have done it for 220$ if we could come back on a Thursday (could not). I saw A/C at 1300$ per persons today (same date).

You could fly to Paris for 547$ return (tax inc.) in May and April. Fares are not making sense.
