Just Picked Up our New Motor Home any Suggestions or Tips?????

Hi! We are thinking about taking it overnight this weekend and I was wondering if anyone had any tips or suggestions about RV's. This is our first RV and we are so excited to try it out. I know once we get out there we will think of a hundred things we didn't get before we left home, but if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them. Thanks this board is awesome!!!!!!!

You will have a ball....advice?

make a list...then check it again & again...then go "OH MAN!" when you get to the campsite and realize what you forgot....at least...that's what seems to be my ritual...

Seriously though, a lot of common sense goes a long way.....since it's new to you...keep your manuals handy...learn the electrical system....go over the unit and learn what is what and where.....

Get to know about your furnace, hot water heater, appliances, holding tanks etcetera...even your TV hook-ups..

What did you get? Class A...class C?

Plus...campingcorgi speaks true...lots of info and fun on the camping board....

Go to the forums, scroll way down to the group section and click on the Nor 'Easters. You'll find several people from your area, as well as all over the North East. We camp together a few times a year.

Our group is having a pig roast in VT June4 -6th, (we have almost 30 RV's signed up) and we'd love to have you join us!! To join, all ya have to do is say hi, and look for the campground post to make a ressie. We have everything from pop ups to pushers, babies to grannies (and a few grandpa's as well!). We have a great time together. No charge, except your campground fee, and gas to get there (well, we will share the cost of the pig).

You'll find lots of practical advice, fun, and down home folk just waiting to help you spend your money on worthwhile RV parts and dodads, as well as some new friends. I'm Doris over there too!

As for what to do with your RV come get me and take me to WDW or the Grand Canyon, or maybe Yellowstone or Bryce Canyon....ya big road trip!

wow, I am so jealous! Would love to have an TV, we just have a popup. Someday.

Anyways, my suggestion is exactly what you are doing. Take it out for a ffew weekends to get the hang of how everything works, what you need for supplies before you take any big trips.

My other suggestion is know if that parking lot you are pulling into down the road has another exit. You do not want to be caught in a situation where you have to back the RV out of a busy lot.

We got a Coachmen Santara Class C, we have four kids and needed the sleeping room!!!! I was going to post this thread on the camping at disney forum but I wasn't sure if that was just for disney questions and comments. I am going to check out that irv2.com that sounds great!!! Thanks for all the posts and congrats, we are so and you are all right I will forget part of my packing list, I even do that at the grocery store (I wonder if the four kids have anything to do with that ). My husband handles all the mechanical stuff, someone at the dealer went over anything, but he is a manual person so I know he will have it all down (I hope anyway) and then teach me how to do things. If anyone has any more advise I would love it and thanks again!!! !!!

We always travel with an atlas with the Walmart listed in it! I am forever forgetting something (it's ok though, I always remember to pack the children!) We have been to so many places in our RV and just love it! Another good forum is the Open Roads Forum http://www.rvnet/forum/

Watch how much "stuff" you load into it. Couple here got nabbed for overweight at a state police check. They raised a big stink about it at the dealer, but they overloaded the thing.

What wonderful times you have to look forward to. Camping with our popup and friends remain some of my fondest memories. Those days are gone for now, but who knows, one day I may be reporting on here that we bought an RV too!!

DVC Don..we're not suppose to have to stop at the weigh stations (RV's)..was this on the Northway? I wonder how the cops knew they were overweight..did they come in and look at the weight it was allowed in the cupboard (where they list it) and do the figuring for people, etc. That is wierd, and something I've never heard of. We travel the Northway almost every weekend, and so far we've never pulled in when the light was blinking. We were told we didn't have to.

Motorhomes do not have to stop at weigh stations. I think that DVC-Don was talking about the total weight of all the stuff you load into the MH. Many people do not relize that a MH has a limit as to how much weight it can safely carry. If you exceed this limit you have a situation that can cause serious problems and possible personal injury. For the safety of all aboard the MH, have it weighed after you load everything in it, food, water, gear and people, and compare this to the weight that the MH is capable of holding. The weight figures are posted somewhere in the MH.

Sorry to disappoint you Jfulcer I should have been more clear we got a new to us 2002 version it looks the same inside though!!! Except we got the color pattern silver sage (I think that is what it was called). The outside stripes are a bit different too, but same style, thanks for posting that I wouldn't even know how to do that. I am not that computer savvy. I love all this advise, we need it!! Thanks again
