how many people here sailed on the inaugural DCl cruise (not red boat)? How many people sailed first year? And, of those people, how many have consistently stayed around on the DISboards to dispense pearls of wisdom?
we're comin' up on 18 years since the first cruise...............

if i may, do you see a big difference (i don't mean shows, re-imagining, etc) in the classic ships from then to now? That is: service, value, etc etc.
obviously you are pleased with DCL , and that wasn't the intent of this thread, but the idea just hit me...
and were u on the cruise boards from inception? I see u were on disboards before DCL existed

Disney considers us to have sailed in the inaugural "year" even though we didn't sail until 1999. I believe that the day after we completed our first sailing, the Wonder started service, or at least arrived at PC for the first time. And yes I've sailed on all 4 ships, plus the Re-Imagined Magic. And I've been on the DIS for a long time (just the Cruise board). I see from my sig that I joined the DIS between my Eastern and Western cruises.

We sailed in the first year of the Magic going on the eastern, then western caribbean cruise. And we sailed through the Panama Canal on the Magic after she visted Disneyland for her 50th anniversary. And we were in the Med the the Magic the first season she was there.

Didn't sail on the Wonder until 2011 when she came out west and headed to Vancouver, then on to Alaska

We were on the 4th sailing of the Fantasy

finally in 2013 we sailed on the Dream.

There are a group of people who have sailed on many "first" cruises - of the ship or on new itineraries. Generally speaking those are the people you want to avoid, they have the "its all about me" attitude. How do I know, I've seen them with their tee shirts and acting poorly to other guests and the crew.

And yes, I've been on many of those cruises or at least on "new" cruises - since we didn't know if DCL would return (especially back when there were only 2 ships). As it turned out the Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises turned out to be popular, as did Alaska and the Med. Frozen reinvigorated the Northern Europe cruises (and not charging an arm, leg, eye and a kidney helped as well).

We are also inaugural year on all four boats, however did not find Disboards until much later. We've lost count of how many sailings we've been on. And I'm convinced that seeing the world from a ship is the best way to get a quick global education when traveling with kids.

WCW57, oddly enough, I don't really see a difference in service. I do find there to be a bit more tip pandering with some servers (very few) and they tend to note last from sailing to sailing. The long timers are genuine and their service shows. :D

We sailed in February of the inaugural year of the Dream. We happened to be the first Castaway Wedding that was offered on the new Disney Dream. DIsboards was a big part of our trip.

I sailed on both the Magic and the Wonder before their inaugural cruises. I had a close friend that was working for the Walt Disney travel company and we went on both ships to do shakedown cruises. They were a lot of fun, but also a lot of paperwork that had to be filled out about everything you experienced. Some of the things we had to do were kind of funny for instance flush the toilet three times in a row in quick succession.

I've sailed on all four ships, but the classic ships remain my favorite.

We sailed on the Dream during her inaugural year and I was lucky enough to be on the TA sailing of the Fantasy the week before the first general public sailing. Though I've been on a few cruises, I really don't consider myself a very seasoned cruiser, so definitely come here to learn!!

I sailed on Magic in May 1999, and when we got home we got some pins saying "inaugural year" or something like that. I have no idea where those pins are now though following a divorce from the husband I went on that honeymoon cruise with an a couple of house moves!

Claire :)

Sailed the Wonder, Dream and Fantasy in their inaugural year.

We sailed The Dream a few months after she was launched. Not sure what pearls of wisdom I've shared. :cutie:

while this is interesting, it has turned into a role call....i was looking for a little more info than that, though i AM impressed by the numbers.....
