Well we have been cold, flu and fever free pretty much all winter! A little sniffle here or there but nothing to brag about.

Well we are leaving tomorrow morning to SSR and 2 hours ago our 3 year old came down with a 103 degree fever, gave him tylenol about an hour ago and still up there! Of boy this should be interesting to see if it's a quick one or a potential cancellation of the trip.

Hope your little one's feeling better soon . Here's some pixie dust ! Is there a "stat care" center near you that could check tonight for an ear infection or strep throat? If that's the case, after a few doses of antibiotics you'd be good to go! But you're right, isn't it always the way it goes sometimes?

Two possibilities.... I do not usually promote the emergency room for non emergency treatment... but I know in our area we do not have urgent care centers.... maybe they could do the strep culture for you and examine your little one. Isn't going to disney the next day dire Also.... call your pediatrician FIRST... but when my children were younger... they habitually ran high fevers... the doctor would let me do a dose of advil in between the doses of tylenol to keep the fever under control. Every child is different... so please check with the doctor before doing this

IMHO a 103 degree fever in a 3 yo warrants a trip to the ER, I am with nappingbeauty, let them do a culture and check him out. good luck..sprinkle some of this on is forehead

Update:

We are waiting for the pediatrician to call back, the fever is down between 100-101 deoending on which ear we test. No other complaints and he is bouncing around like everything is fine probably the excitement about going to Disney. He wants to go outside and pay baseball right now, figure it out!

I AM NOT a doctor, but I will tell you from "Mom" experience that Motrin works better and longer than Tylenol. If there's nothing wrong (e.g., step, ear infection, etc.), Motrin will make a HUGE difference if he has a flu. My daughter has strep (took her to the doctor yesterday), and when on Motrin, you'd never know she was sick.

I hope he feels better soon, and you guys have a WONDERFUL vacation! Enjoy SSR, as it's a beautiful resort!

I'm so sorry! That sucks.

My DS (11) came down with a variation of the flu last Saturday (and we all had flu shots). He started with a headache, sore throat & a cough on Saturday evening. We alternated with Tylenol & Advil / Motrin all day on Sunday & Monday, religiously every 4 hours + lots of cold compresses & salt water gargles. The fever finally broke on Monday night but the sore throat & cough lingered until Thurs!! Well, he's still coughing this dry whoopy kind of cough but the sore throat is finally gone. I took him to the pediatrician on Mon. afternoon just to check for strep but it was negative - they said this bug that he got lasts 5-7 days. I certainly hope you have a shorter variety! I agree that Motrin or Advil will work better / longer than Tylenol. I might be tempted to go ahead & go on the trip & pack lots of meds (both kids & adult) and try to ride it out down there for a couple of days rather than cancel the whole trip.

I surely hope it works out for you!

Another vote for Motrin/advil for toddlers and adults! Much better fever reducer because of it's anti-inflammatory effect.
