Just ordered DSL question about installing

Did you install it yourself or have someone come out and install? It sounds pretty easy (I hope) so we decided to do it ourselves. Any possible problems we might need to know about?
Everything was free so I figured what the heck since dial up is so slow. We went thru SBC Yahoo DSL. Thanks

Do you already have the nic card in your computer? If so, it's just a matter of putting filters on your phone lines (all of them) and then plugging the phone line into the external modem, then plugging that into your nic card. Install the software and you're good to go.

I did it by myself and I'm hardly savvy in that respect. And I too have SBC Yahoo.

The instructions are easy and just come up on the monitor, one step at a time. You shouldn't have a problem. PM me if anything comes up!

Do you have a monitored alarm system. They had to come out to install a filter on the line outside so that the line to the alarm was separate. Don't know why, but that is why I was not allowed to do a "self install."

I ordered a nic card since I didn't have one.
Carl - I don't have an alarm system, it did say something about if you have an alarm system they would have to install it.
If it's step by step instructions then we should be okay.

Would you mind to post any problems or suggestions you have after you get set up? After I check around and decide which DSL to go with, I then want to set up wireless network in our 2-story house and would like to hear about any 'surprises' as this is new to me and I don't know what I am doing!

I installed Verizon DSL on my new computer about a month ago. It was very easy, they give you a CD with step by step instructions. I did not have to install anything internally into the computer, it came with an ethernet card. Just a matter of installing the filters, connecting the wires and going through a setup procedure.

I was used to 56K dialup, this is wonderful! The only problem I had is a couple weeks after I got it we had a power failure overnight. I could not get it to work afterwards, I called Verizon and they walked me through resetting the modem.

About a week ago I bought a Linksys router so that I could use my laptop downstairs. That was a little more tricky but I got it to work without calling anyone.

I've installed it twice and never had a problem.

Once you get your computer open, the card shouldn't be a problem. Then it is just a matter of putting the filters on. Which is very simple. Unless you have a wall mounted phone.

I hooked my DSL to a wireless router and have 2 laptops running on it as well as my hard-wired PC. Next weekend I will be adding my two TiVo's and my XBox to the network.
