Just a heads up to anyone who may want the DDE card mailed to them before their trip, do not fax in your order. I just faxed ours in and instead of getting a card mailed to me I have to pick it up at guest relations. Usually this would not be a problem but this time we are camping. Now I have to make an extra trip to guest services after setting up camp before our dinner reservations at Whispering Canyon. When I called and asked why I was not informed prior to ordering I was told that is how it is done now. So if you want to receive your card in advance, call in your order do not fax.

Did you ask if they would be willing to send you one anyway? If they do it for phone calls they should do it if you call and request one, right?:confused3

It's entirely possible that DDE discontinued mailing the cards because they are sold at Guest Relations directly now. When I bought mine in October, just prior to the changes, I had to get the temporary card from the Guest Relations outside of Epcot, as that was the only location to get it. (I ordered mine too late to receive the card in the mail before my trip.) I would have preferred to be able to get the permanent card at the ticket window when I activated my AP.

Are you camping at Ft. Wilderness? You can go to any Guest Relations at any of the parks or at Downtown Disney to pickup the DDE.

LargoLori is right. We ordered our DDE card in December via fax, picked it up at DTD GR a couple weeks later (thinking it the temporary one). We asked about the old plastic card, and were told the paper card is what is being issued on property. When I called to find out about the plastic card I was told they do mail those, only to phone orders. Fax or mail orders, it will automatically be will call/paper card. If you wanted the plastic card, you do have to call (did not realize that). Regarding picking up your card, yes you do have go to the parks' GR or DTD. FWIW.

I just got my new plastic one last week in the mail. I called and ordered mine in mid-December because I needed a January 2009 expiration date. No problem, they just pulled up my old account, charged me cc and we received a new card. I like the plastic ones better. However if the expiration date was an issue I would get the paper one too. We wanted ours in our hand when we check into Pop on Saturday as it will be lunch time and we'll be starved, so will put it to use immediately. So yes the plastic ones are still available. Thanks for the info about faxing orders, I hadn't known about that, glad I called and ordered it, though.

Maybe a stupid question, but what is the DDE Card?

For anyone concerned about expiration dates with the new process:
We purchased our DDE card in person at DTD Guest Services on 1/11/08 and the expiration is 2/28/09.

I did and the CM kept saying that the order had already been processed for will call (to be picked up at GS). I asked where it said on the form that I was ordering for will call. The reply was that it doesn't say on the form that it is just done that way. The CM did not appear very eager to help and told me I was the first person to have a problem with it. After awhile the CM did say that she could cancel the order and re-order but it would take awhile for the credit to show up on our CC. At that point I was just too frustrated and let the order stand. We are lucky that we live close enough that we can adjust our travel times and arrange a stop at DTD before we set-up camp.

Wow, talk about inconsistency and confusion! Thanks for the clarification about the bureaucratic process it now entails! I like the plastic card, too.
